Chapter 9: I want to be different
Nora got to work late and rushed to Mr Anthony's office, he was so busy.
He had documents piled up on his desk.
Good morning Mr Anthony" Nora greeted with a smile.
Good morning, have your seat, you have loads of work to do" Mr Anthony sighed.
Nora was confused a bit because he was the one who had work to do not her.
I'm partially doing your job, so from Monday, you will handle your work yourself" Mr Anthony cleared the confusion.
They started working and Mr Anthony explained calmly to Nora about the work of a secretary.
You will have to scrutinize it, review it then organize before submitting to the CEO, he hates when people make mistakes" Mr Anthony explained.
Nora nodded and stared calmly at Mr Anthony. She knew that it was going to be an hard task but she believed in herself that she could do it.
You will have to get good and beautiful dresses when you are going on business outings with the CEO, you have to look sophisticated" Mr Anthony showed her some pictures on his system.
Nora thought about where she was going to find money to buy beautiful dresses.
You will be given free dresses from one of the best designers for the first one year of working, by then, you should be able to afford it" Mr Anthony enlightened after he saw her expression.
Nora placed her right hand on the table using it to support her head.
Mr Anthony spoke about more important things before going to attend to his tasks.
Nora scrutinized some documents before going back home.
Being a secretary was indeed an hard task" Nora thought to her self.
Nora massaged the nape of her neck and stood up from her seat, she was given a day off the next day.
She was shocked by the fact that she might not have free weekends, it was a really tedious job.
Nora left hurriedly and headed home.
Nora got home then packed some clothes and underwear because she wanted to spend a night at her parents house.
She took her bath and ate a light meal before going.
...Nora got to her parents house but only met her best friend and Kelvin at home.
She hugged Kelly for a long time before telling both of them about the good news.
Guess what?" Nora asked Kelly with a beautiful smile.
You ran away from home because you got into a fight with mom" Kelvin said nonchalantly.
I didn't ask you" Nora yelled at her brother.
She held both of Kelly's hands and said "Well, I got a job at Jasra as a secretary and I also rented an apartment near the company".
What!! How? You are joking right??" Kelly was truly surprised. She didn't believe what Nora just said.
It was a miracle, infact it's unbelievable and unexplainable, and I'm not joking" Nora kept smiling.
Wow, I'm happy for you. Kelvin did you hear what your sister just said??" Kelly hugged Nora with a big and beautiful smile.
Of course, I'm so happy for you Nora, can I move in with you??" Kelvin also hugged Nora.
No" Mrs Raven's voice was heard.
Mr and Mrs Raven walked in through the door and Kelvin walked to his mom and held her left leg with fake tears.
Nora greeted her mom and dad as they came in.
I'm spending the night so what should we cook?" Nora asked her mom.
Mrs Raven rolled her eyes and Nora did the same.
Kelly, let's go cook something together" Mrs Raven invited Kelly to the kitchen.
Mr Raven signaled to Nora telling her to follow her mom. She reluctantly went to the kitchen.
Nora just stood, staring at both her mom and Kelly with angry eyes.
Kelly noticed the tense atmosphere and exited the kitchen.
Nora went to wash the dishes and her mom was cooking the rice.
They were both angry but Nora felt that it wasn't her fault but mother's so she couldn't just apologize.
Did you really have to run away from home" Mrs Raven broke the silence.

Nora washed her both hands and walked to the door "I might be a lady, but getting married is not the only thing I was born for".
Nora, why don't you face the truth? You are just a machinery for child bearing and a support to the man you will marry" Mrs Raven turned off the gas cooker and walked to Nora.
I hate your mindset mom, no wonder why we are still poor. You believe that you have to ask your husband for everything, you don't need to
be treated with care because you are a machinery for child bearing?" Nora yelled with all her strength.
Mrs Raven kept quiet and stared at her daughter blankly.
"Well I don't want to be that kind of woman, I want to have my own money. I want to be respected by the man I am going to marry, I won't be a machinery for child bearing, I won't be behind so I'm going to work hard and won't be a liability to any fucking man" Nora yelled with tears then ran to her room upstairs.
Nora packed her belongings into a bag and prepared to leave. She hated her mom's way of thinking, she feels that as a female, you are useless and worthless.
She feels that you come into this world just to help a man to give birth to his children then become a liability.
No, she's not going to be that kind of woman, shes going to be different. And she's willing to do anything to be different.
She carried the bag and went to the sitting room. She hugged her dad and she greeted her brother before leaving.
Kelly followed Nora outside and hugged her, she broke the hug then said "I will follow you home".
No, you have to go to work, it's fine" Nora stared at her.
You know I work at night so I will go to work from your house" Kelly hugged Nora once more before going together.

You little punk, why did you come late?" Jason's grandfather asked Jason with a glare.
I had work to do" Jason answered with an aloof expression.
You fool, ho.." Jason's grandfather said before he was cut off by Mrs Anderson.
Father, don't mind him" Mrs Anderson chuckled.
I'm giving you one year to bring in a wife, you are not getting younger" His grandfather sighed.
Grandfather, I will bring my fiancee to meet you next month" Jack, the second son of the family, said as he stared at Jason.
Chairman Anderson snugged and continued his food.
Jason just sat there and took a piece of his steak ignoring all they were saying. There was one thing he hated, that was family gatherings.
It was a total waste of time to Jason, his grandfather always had something to say to him. But he cared less about that.
They all finished eating, Jason greeted his grandfather and father before going home with his mother.
He couldn't stand being in the same car with her so he prepared another car to take her home.
He got home before his mom and hurriedly went to bed.
