Chapter 2: Chapter 2

It seemed like the whole history was rewritten and given a beautiful ending. The end of humans was near and was hastened by themselves. The games became docile, the supermarkets evaporated, and the congregations were always followed by decrees of crowd control. All in all, human interaction was limited to social media, and it was also under the constant control of the master algorithm, or as we called it, MAGO.

We, as a group, tried to be off the grid. My social media account was deactivated, and I tried to keep as much physical contact with other members as possible. Not all the members were that disciplined. The strength of our group fluctuated as some new came in a while older ones caved into the pressure of social media companies which indirectly controlled our lives. The energy consumption was done on the basis of rating points which were the outcome of the social media interaction. As we suffered from the frequent curbs, we developed resistance mechanisms. We formulated groups to scavenge the leftovers of food from the posh communities. After the incessant crackdowns, I proposed an idea.

"We have to go back to our roots. We need to hunt to survive."

The look on the faces was sarcastic, but only Sam opened his mouth.

"We have done a lot of wrongs to get extradited from the community; we can't take this risk. It is a felony," everyone seemed to agree with his observations.

The lamp in the cave was about to run out of oil as its flame fluttered. I looked up at the dripping ceiling of the rocky cave.

"Do you think we are not already outcasts? We meet here, not giving out our locations to anybody, not even new members. We have already tightened our trust circle, and if we do it, there are minimal chances that anybody will get to know about it. We have to take risks in order to survive. Never forget that we belong to the family of hunters and gatherers. It is in our blood to hunt; we hunted when we were nobody, and we will hunt not become that again."

For a little while, there was silence until Sara spoke.

"What about MAGO? The geo-tagged animals are always under its eye. It won't spare us if it finds out something. And what hunting skills do we have? We will be hunted before we hunt. I agree with you on it being the feasible solution, but how can we do it."

I looked towards Sam, "Can you loop the surveillance systems? I need a visual of all the tagged animals."

"Yeah, I can get into the loops of blue ones; red ones are highly secured."

"We don't need the reds,"

"But what about our safety. Reds are the actual hunters; they will kill us before we even enter their space."

"We will attack as they hibernate."

"It seems like a workable idea," Sarah said while nodding her head.
