"Why are you doing this to me, Devon? Why you are punishing me like this?"

I didn't know what magic my words did to him, but his face softened instantly. He gently pulled me into his arms, and though I should have stepped away from him, my body welcomed his warm touch.

He pulled me closer until our lower bodies were touching each other. He wiped my tears with his thumb, gazing deeply into my eyes.

And though I wanted to not believe him, I couldn't deny the sincerity flooding his eyes.

"I know you are more scared than angry right now. Anyone would have reacted in a worse way than this but you stayed. You didn't run last night or strangle me in sleep."

"It's not funny!" I cried, hitting his chest.

"And I am not joking at all." His expression remained unchanged as he continued. "Elena, I told you that I am not the man you think I am. I am a Sanders, and we have our own share of sins.
