Chapter 4: WHAT!? You were just lucky!

The mother and son was dumbfounded. The mother was embarrassed whilst the son had a smug smile plastered all over his face. They couldn't believe what they had just witnessed.

The mother turned oblivious to her son. "Hurry, you're late to school. Stop thinking about football."

However, whilst the mother was dragging her son to school, she took one last look at the scrawny Asian youth. The mother sworn to remember Kai's face. Then, they quickly went on their way.

~~~
Leroy was overjoyed. He ran to Kai as they did a high-five. "Damn son. I never thought you would play such a beautiful pass."
Another teammate said, "That was incredible!"
Kai gave a thumbs up. "Nice one Leroy. Great goal."
With the two players celebrating this special moment. Their teammates also celebrated . On the other side, Leroy's team-mates congratulated their young teammate. The small crowd cheered and the opponent goalkeeper looked dismayed.
However, whilst the team was celebrating the goal. Roys was standing far away from the rest, as he couldn't bring himself to celebrate.
Roys just walked back to the dugout as he was in a daze. He's madly furious, but he was too gutted. He couldn't bring himself to believe that Kai had delivered such a fantastic assist. More importantly, he stole his limelight.
Roys was furious. He was supposedly to be the next superstar of football. His teammates all admired him, but now there was someone challenging his lofty status.
But the game hadn't finished yet. Despite this being a special moment for Kai, Leroy and the team, they stopped their shenanigans as they haven't finish the job yet. The game hadn't finish. There were another 5 minutes to go.
However, it seemed that their opponent had no response. The opponent tried their hardest to get an equaliser, but the team's defence held firm. Attack after attack was stopped. Kai even made a few tackles that contributed to the defence.
After all, Kai's defensive ability is rated 10/20, which is his second best attribute just behind his mental ability of 11/20
Eventually, the whistle came as the referee announced the conclusion of the game. All the players heaved a sigh of relief as they came out victorious against their opponent.
Kai had a silly smile on his face as the game ended. He had been scolded by his teammates and mocked by the youth manager. On the other hand, when Kai made that assist, there were only smiles on their faces.
As the team entered dugout, Kai had an expectant gaze as he eyed Marley. That assist should prove he was worthy to have a contract, right?
Kai was substituted in the 65th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match he delivered the assist that would win them the game. And most importantly, he was playing as a defender! If this performance didn't warrant some recognition, he didn't know what he needed to do to impress the youth team manager.
As the players sat in the dugout, Marley gave his post match speech to his players. "Well done guys. That was a good win for us."
"However, I am not impressed by how late we scored that goal."
"When I saw their goalie playing, I assumed it would be an easy game. I didn't appreciate your performance in front of the goal."
The boys nodded, but Kai had an uneasy expression. His future as a player is tied to how Marley viewed him as a player. If he deemed Kai was an average player, then that would mean his days in the team were numbered.
"We have to train harder when we get back. That's all I have to say."
After the discussion, the boys got up and it was time to go back to the training grounds.
However, Kai didn't move an inch as he sat in the dugout. Whilst all the players were packing their belonging and getting ready to leave, Kai remained behind as he waited for Manager Marley.
Finally, when all the players finally left the dugout, Kai approached the pot-bellied manager cautiously. "Mr Marley, about my trial..."
"Huh? You're still here... Oh. Hi." Marley replied half-heartedly.
Kai ignored the negative signals as he wished to know the result. "My. My tryout would end soon. Did I make it? Can I join the team?"
"I'm afraid I don't have the answer for you." Marley sighed. "That's not my decision to make."
"WAHT! I thought you had the authority to at least decided who plays for the club's u-19."
Marley shook his head. "I am just a manager for the youth side. You have to impress the club's recruitment team."
"But... but... I had an assist. Doesn't that warrant anything?"
Marley had an amused smile, like he was entertained by something funny. "An assist?" Marley burst into laughter, which almost made Kai fall to the ground. "You need to show me more than that."
"I can do more. I can do so much more." Kai was still adamant. "I gave an assist after playing for 20 minutes. If you let me start a game, I can... I can...."
Marley dismissively waved at Kai "Let me finish. No, you won't start a game. You had an assist, but that was pure luck."
"You were just lucky!"
"I'm sorry, Marley. I can not accept that." Kai replied with iron resolve. How could he let such a person stop him on his journey to greatness? Kai had the Football System, he was destined to become the greatest footballer the world had ever seen. He couldn't allow this ignorant person to stop him.
It was now Kai's turn to become serious. "Why did you think that assist was all luck? I saw Leroy making that run ages ago. I passed with the right force and right timing. Could it really have been luck?"
Marley was utterly lost for words. He knew that he didn't handle this the best way, but Kai just wouldn't listen. He was stubborn as a mule. "Let me finish. There was an element of luck to your assist. You were the player to give an assist, but if you didn't have Leroy, did you think that half assed long pass can become a goal?"
"That pass was all according to my calculations!" Kai argued back stubbornly. He held firm as he didn't crack under pressure.
Marley rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever. Fine. I'll give you another chance. You can play another match with us. If you perform well, then I will put in a good word for you."
"Oh thank you. You really are a good man." Kai gave a polite bow, like a lady.
Marley laughed loudly. "You know, I thought I was such a nice guy, but I see that you're just a spoiled little brat, who's been crying about everything all his life."
Kai gritted his teeth as he bowed to Manager Marley. He had to hold in his anger for now. When he become a football prodigy in the future, every team in the world would be after his signature. Kai only had to endure this humiliation for a little longer.
~~~

Kai jogged home after the match. He wasn't particularly tired after the game because he played for no more than 30 minutes.

In Kai heart, he was pleased that he made his first appearance for the youth team. If he remembered correctly, in his past life Kai didn't even get a chance to prove his worth. The Right Defender, Fabian, didn't get injured in his past life so Kai didn't have the chance to play the match.

This transmigration is already changing what he could become. He trial at the club also extended, which was very good news for Kai. Originally, Kai had his trial cancelled by the club after all the injured players returned to full fitness. Now, Marley had granted him another match to prove himself.

Even if Marley had some doubts on his ability, Kai believed he could silent the fatso if he performed even better. A professional contract wasn't out of reach.

Kai held on to this glimmer of hope.

*Ding*

[ Hidden requirement fulfilled ]

Kai was surprised by the system's sudden announcement. The loud *ding* had scarred Kai to death as he was jogging home.

'What requirement system? What did I do?' Kai questioned the system.

[ Check system, Host? ]

Kai remembered what the system had stated on the day he transmigrated. The system said that he can earn Player Points whenever he performed on the pitch. There were even bonuses if he played well!

It was all true. Kai only played a youth game, but he still earned a total of 75 Player Points.

'Open system status' Kai said in his head.

Kai choked on his own saliva when he read how the system evaluated him. What the hell? I am equivalent to trash in the system's eyes?

Please system, have a heart! I can't take so much insult in a day.
