Chapter 8: Chapter 8: High Standard

Perseus POV

So my therapist and that specialist was wrong.

That's the first thought that came to mind once I woke up, my head hurts every time I have those dreams, and today is no different, though since it's with a different body, it hurts more than the me who was used to it and endured it, I am now wincing and groaning to the pain waking both my parents up.

"Perseus, are you okay?" Mom Nyra asked

"Yeah, just...headache...I'm fine...should go...away in a minute." I winced as I held my head.

Mom Rylee then came a glass of water and this pill which she then placed in my mouth and pour water in to help me swallow it, the pain did go away, but I'm more than sure that she got all sorts of medication prepared from Healer Beek in case I experience any sort of episodes.

"Moms, I'm hungry, I'm gonna go get breakfast."

"What is it with you and food?" mom Rylee scratched her head and created messy hair "Do you just prefer food over people?"

"Yes. I love you guys though, don't worry."

Perseus POV

Surprisingly Leilah hasn't made contact with me for 3 whole years, I expected one a couple days after, but nah. These days, when my moms are at work, they just let me be under Maggie's watch at the library. I'm not really attending school since the school won't be able to teach me anything, I've already made a bit of a name for myself in the village, some sages and scholars do come by the library to teach me how magic work in this worlds.

Even more surprising, despite my comments through the years, I have not actually been brought to therapy, it seems they don't think I'm as disturbed as they thought I were, anyway let's get back to magic.

The magic in this world is measured by stars, if you concentrate your mana into the palm of your hand with a certain breathing technique, small tiny stars will appear and float above your hand, with the level from 1 to 10, average adult have 4(3 everywhere else), I already got 2 at my age which surprised everyone and no one would question me not spending time at school.

The ways to improve the level are by meditation, fighting and the dance. Throughout the years, I had to participate with everyone of their weird traditions, like the dance of roses which is just our traditional dance but switched up a bit weird with this weird tempo.

There are 7 continents here, the 2 largest ones are where the demon race live, 4 on the far west is where us humans live, there is one large continent that stands in between the 2 race, a neutral continent named Tehios, it's a neutral territory where humans live with demon factions who despite the war those their cousins on the 2 continent are waging. The 2 demon continents make up the same amount of land area to the 4 human continents and are divided into the northeast continent and southwest continent.

Now let's get to where we're at, the human continents are divided into 4, north, south, east, and west. Each continents have one main religion, it's dedication to the seasonal gods, the first 4 children of the sun and moon gods. The west where we're at, worship the goddess of autumn, the south, god of summer, east, god of spring, and the north, the god of winter.

But even though we live on the western continent, the people of the Paradis Tree worship the sun and moon gods directly, the others worship them as secondary since they are no longer as active in helping their children, they've been silent, so people would worship those who are currently helping them instead. As for their names, let's not concern with it for now.

"Are you not lonely not attending school and being with the others?" Maggie asked as she's rearranging the books in their proper place while I'm reading in the floor.

Let's change the subject because I'm a bit bored today.

"Are you insecure because you're single or single because you're insecure?"

"Wha-"

"All your close friends are in a relationship, so you either don't want to be left behind or you just want to be included, is that why you are desperate?"

"No, I'm in my 30s, I want children, I want a family, it's almost too late." she denied

So she feels like she's lacking behind.

"Isn't it because you have too high a standard? Rich, handsome, tall, loyal, nice...etc. The described perfect man definitely exists, but amongst the billions of women, why would he settle for you?"

I can see an arrow of reality pierced her through the heart as she spat out blood and staggered backwards. I then proceed to tell her a lot more things.

3rd Person POV

Rylee is in charge of picking up their son today, once she got in though, she saw one of her closest friends running out crying and bumped into her.

"I hate your son!" she exclaimed before running out.

Rylee sighs and went to Perseus aisle where he is taking over what Maggie was supposed to do.

"What'd you say to her?" she asked

"What do you mean?" Perseus responded by tilting his head to the side and gave her a puzzling look "I was just stacking books."

"What did you say to make Maggie cry?"

"Why would you assumed that it's me? This is a public library, she probably got rejected by a person again."

"I raised you for 8 years, I know what you're like, remember last week when you make the chief's daughter cry by telling her the story you make up about the slit mouth woman?"

Yes, he stole it from his previous world.

"She asked for a scary story, so I told her one." Perseus replied nonchalantly

"You also told her that not everybody deserve a happy ending, and not all stories end with one either, do you not know how crushing that is to a 10 year old?"

"I know some people kill in self defense or to protect someone, but what if a person murders for fun? They clearly do not deserve a happy ending...As for Maggie, I only gave her a dose of reality."

"You clearly haven't lived long enough to be this depressed, come on, let's go home." Rylee sighs in defeat

She was sure that both her and her wife only told him happy stories, she already received complains from a couple parents, though Perseus told their kids to not bother him, but kids are kids, and so he just told them either really scary stories or just give them a dose of what reality really is, so the kids either end up traumatized or no longer happy.
