Chapter 418: Chapter 418: Blackmailed (6)

|Author's note: The schedule is about to get messed up for the next 2 weeks or so, Project deadlines are coming, and I'm going to focus on those since they're my number 1 priority. I've been free for the past week, so I got enough time to write and post early.|

3rd Person POV

Zach received the news that Perseus had captured Greg. Relief surged through him, knowing he had to act swiftly enough to protect himself and his allies. When Perseus informs him of his plans to capture the bartender, he knows that he can't convince Perseus to go after any other person and that his only chance is to alter Greg's memories, a skill he has honed over the years.

He blurred the lines between what was real and what was not, crafting a new identity for his friend before the capture. In this new version of reality, Greg was no longer Greg, he was the enigmatic 'Soul Merchant.', he gave Greg his identity to save himself.

"I was lucky to befriend him." Zach sighs after the news, "Perseus approached us to get information about Greg and gave us enough time to alter his memories."

"Perseus would have come after us otherwise." a subordinate replied, "Does this mean we'll have to slow the slave trade for a while? And cut off our connections with Perseus?"

"No, Perseus has a lot of business, working with him is beneficial, though, slow down the slave trades, if Perseus finds out, we're as good as dead, he took on the hero and won."

With the memory alteration successfully in place and their immediate threat mitigated, Zach and his associates continued to navigate the treacherous waters of their operations. They maintained their connections with Perseus, all the while treading lightly and ensuring that their involvement remained hidden.

Their slave trade operations were indeed slowed down, a precautionary measure to minimize the chances of attracting Perseus' attention. This decision, though necessary for their safety, weighed heavily on Zach's conscience as he had to sacrifice a close subordinate.

He knew that eventually, he and Perseus would have to cut ties and he have to go into hiding, because as time passed while working with each other, Zach and his team managed to secure their place within Perseus's network, working alongside the mage on various ventures.

Perseus' influence and resources proved invaluable, and Zach was keen to exploit this partnership to its full potential.

But Zach couldn't shake the knowledge that he had left Greg, now known as the "Soul Merchant," to bear the blame for their actions. It was a bitter truth he had to live with, a necessary sacrifice for his own survival and the success of their operations.

In this precarious world of secrets, alliances, and deception, Zach had to be constantly vigilant. The game had only just begun, and with Perseus's power and reach, the stakes had never been higher. The memory manipulation had bought them some time, but it was just the calm before the storm, as Zach knew that eventually, the consequences of their actions would catch up with them.

Perseus POV

*Sneeze*

Right, someone's talking about me, I know this troupe, I don't just sneeze out of nowhere, which bastard was it? Maybe it's my family members...if so, I'll need to apologize for calling them a bitch.

"I still can't believe that you can make soup." Mark commented as he watched over me

"Why are you here?"

"To see if you're trying to poison us." he replied, "What's that?"

"Spices?"

"No need to add so much chili."

"The hell are you on about? Chili is the best part, besides, cookie?"

"Sure." he responded and ate the cookie carefully

Terrence was just here to hang out and took the cookie too, well, I put the antidote in those cookies, and the poison was laced in with the chilis earlier, I've done my part and today should be my last day, I'm just gonna hope that Isfrid doesn't expose me or anything, because it's proceeding too smoothly.

"Don't worry, I pleaded with our God to spare you, so no need to worry too much." Terrence said as if he was reading my mind, "Though this is a one-time thing, our God doesn't seem to like you much."

"No god does, I've made a lot of enemies."

"That sounds like a bad thing."

"It is, I went to the world of the heroes a while ago, first off, we're lucky gun users of our world here don't learn anything from the Chicago cops, second, pretty underwhelming, like they deep fry butter and wonder why people are getting out of shape."

After the soup was done, I made sure that every hero and soldier ate the soup and had the poison in them before causing a small mayhem and disappearing from the site to go back home.

I then saw my parents coming in for a visit just to check on my grandparents since they've been apart for so long, I then went to Vince and Rosa to check up on them, they apparently got along well since their mental age are somewhat the same.

"Um, Dad." Rosa called

"Uh, yeah."

"I know that you've offered to have me adopted either by you or the other Perseus, but I just want to say that...I don't mind living here with you."

"Oh...um...I honestly don't know how to reply to that."

"Yes!" Leilah cheered and hugged Rosa, "Hah, I got the first child! I'll make sure that you won't regret that decision!"

She then pulled me into an awkward group hug.

Lilith POV

I knew that I was going to lose my fight for the number 1 spot soon, but this is just...well, I no longer stand a chance, Leilah's engaged and has a child with him...the only way for me to win right now is to get pregnant and have him sign a marriage registration ticket because all I have now was that our promise to marry after everything is over.

Perseus broke out of that group hug and approached me.

"You're not envious, are you?" he asked

"Just a bit."

"Really?"

"Yeah...I'll consider having a child with you."

"Huh?

maybe having a stronger child will help me take over the number 1 spot.
