Chapter 3: Thou Are Merciless (2)

*BOOM*

*CRACKLE*

The sound of lighting and thunder roared and crackled throughout the pitch-black sky, as I crawled closer to the decaying corpse of my now-deceased mother. As my small infant hand touched the paleness that was her skin, all I could feel from her was the empty sensation of warmth, now being overshadowed by the cold frigid feeling of death's embracing, the cold.

Suddenly a raw mass of emotions started to fluctuate throughout my psyche. Sadness, exigency, and other physical need for validation and affection, coursed through me like wildfire. Though I may be feeling these raw emotions, I, however, cannot express them for some unforeseen reason, I can only lower my head in respect for the woman I barely got to know as my mother.

*CRACKLE*

*BOOM*

The sounds of the lighting and thunder grew louder and far more fierce, making the very ground beneath me shake and quake. Just from how the wind was blowing I could tell there was a storm coming, one that could instantly mean certain death if I remained outdoors. I crawled around my mother's dead carcass, only making it to the umbilical cord. As it stands I wouldn't be able to get very far with it attached to me, and the only way to press onward was to cut the cord completely off.

With little resources and an insufficient amount of strength, I did the only thing I could do. After a while, I managed to position myself in a manner where I was right at the center of the umbilical cord's weakest point. With the littlest amount of force, I chewed with my gums, and bit into the umbilical cord, chomping away at it piece by piece, tissue by tissue. Blood stained my little mouth as I continued my assault on the umbilical cord. Never for a moment did I stop and think, I only continued to get away and press forward.

The storm grew louder and far more fierce. A wagon filled with people made its way through the muddy road, relying on the horses that pulled the wagon to make it through the rain. "AUGH DAMN IT!, WHY THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO RAIN CATS AND DOGS ALL OF A SUDDEN?". A male with short brown hair and dark green eyes spoke aloud. "Quiet Thorsen, the others are sleeping". Another male chimed in shushing the ladder.

"Ah, right sorry. But come on Mikel, doesn't this shit bother you? The guild hiring us mercenaries to scavenge the dead bodies of the fallen soldiers, that fought against the northern alliance." Thorsen exclaimed agitatedly. Thorsen lifted the sheet that shielded them from the rain to look outside, only to be met with the pitch-black darkness that is the forest.

"I understand how you feel Thorsen, but this isn't the time to complain now that we've been given a bonus reward if we complete the assignment. Besides, if those bastards at the guild decided to turn their backs on an agreement, there'll be hell to pay". Mikel Spoke with conviction.

Thorsen scoffed as he sat back down as the wagon rocked and rattled through the muddy dirt road. Mikel kept a watchful eye on the outside while the wagon made its way to its destination. But suddenly whilst Mikel was focusing on the road, he felt a blade press against the nape of his neck. This was followed by warm breathing and a hand pressed against his back, Mikel's eyes widen, then suddenly they became more relaxed and soft as Mikel spoke bluntly. "Fels, put your weapon away we don't have time to mess around on an assignment". Mikel spoke in a familiar tone.

The sounds of a woman chuckling turned into laughter, as her presence became known. Her hair was a long and very pitch black color, her eyes a dark maroon blue, and aside from her tiny figure her body was surprisingly fit due to the magical energy flowing through her body known as 'Ora'.

"Awww how'd you guess it was me, Mikel? Did my 'Skill' not conceal my presence enough?" Fels spoke playfully, while she sat back down merely spinning the blade she wielded in her hand. Mikel merely sighed out of exhaustion, keeping his eyes on the prize as many would say because the reward they'd get from the guild would be an enormous one.

"Your skill wasn't the issue, rather your intent to kill was visible through your blade Fels. Didn't I tell you to drop that habit, or has our training together up till now not been enough to satiate your lust for battle yet?" Mikel asked. Fels hummed as she twirled her blade in one hand and then responded to Mikel. "Don't get it twisted Mikel, I do love our sessions with one another. But, having the same playmate over and over again, well it gets rather lacking lust, a girl needs some attention now and again. Can't blame me for wanting to have some fun now, can you?~". Fels spoke in a seductive tone. Mikel merely took a deep breath and sighed.

Thorsen looked on at the two a bit astonished by how open they are about their so-called 'Sessions'. Despite it making the atmosphere a bit awkward, Thorsen suddenly heard a yawn or two from the back of the wagon. "..Hey, guys are we there yet?". A soft, yet gentle voice from a woman came from the back. Thorsen would respond "Nope, it's better to just keep dreaming while we wait Lilyana". A woman with dark silver hair, crystal clear violet eyes, and an amazing body figure could be seen, she stretched her arms as she yawned once more. "No…it's fine, I'm wide awake now". Lilyana spoke softly, she then turned to see the other person who's as beside her sleeping. Another woman would be viable, her hair a long dark crimson red, her body figure can be described as captivating, and as she opened her eyes, the color of them could be that of a clear Yellowstone color, as bright as the sun as they would say.

"Oh sorry Zestine, I didn't mean to wake you up" Lilyana spoke out of concern. Zestine merely shook her head, she sat upright and stretched both of her arms, and cracked her neck a little to get her body up and going, she then spoke "No, it's fine we're almost there anyways" Zestine spoke calmly and pointed at the front of the wagon. Thorsen's eyes lit up with excitement, "FINALLY! THANK THE FUCKING GODS!" He shouted aloud. Mikel squinted his eyes to try and see through the pitch-black darkness that was all around them, but luckily from the lighting strikes giving a glimpse of light every so often, he managed to see the battlefield. "Hah, you're right Zestine, looks like the trip is gonna be over soon. We'll finally be able to go back home after this". Mikel spoke with a gleeful attitude.

The sound of the umbilical cord tissue and meaty exterior snapped and echoed out into the pitch-black battlefield. I crawled with the little strength I had left after using so much energy just to chew away at it, I took a glance over my undeveloped shoulder at my mother's corpse. Her eyes were devoid of light, her mouth wide open, and she seemingly sadden expression. All detailed how she saw herself unfit to be a mother, despite all this, despite the fighting that ensued, despite the carnage that befell her and what I can assume was her comrades, she still held onto the idea of giving birth to me.

The emotions I felt for her gradually began to overwhelm my infant mentality, and soon it swelled into my tears coming forth. I didn't even scream nor shout, I merely shed tears for this woman, it was the only courteous thing I can give to her, as my final act as her blood, her legacy, her son.
