Chapter 13: Slaves For Sale.

The gloomy morning began with the rattling sound of the iron gates at dawn to wake the slaves up. Just like every other slave, Eve and Maddy woke up as quickly as they could to avoid being punished by the wardens. They rushed to the backyard with an iron pail that they were going to use to retrieve water from the only tap that was connected to the hood.

"You, stop dawdling! You are not the only person in the line waiting to get water! Run off if you are this dumb…! Foolish human, it is your turn!" the voice of the male warden reverberated across the yard and it grew icy as he spoke. It was as though his voice accompanied the wintry morning.

"Annoying!" Eve spat in anger and she glared icicles at the warden. If eyes could kill, he would be dead a thousand times already.
