Chapter 6: Snap Out Of It (Part 2)

"My love, are you in there?" "It's me, your girlfriend; I can help you." Jean tried to speak to Drake

She stood up and walked to him with her arms extended for a hug.

"Jean, stay back." "He's dangerous; he could hurt you!" Nightcrawler shouted with a bloodied arm.

She turned to look at him and spoke.

"He would never hurt me because he loves me like I love him." She had hearts in her eyes, and her voice sounded unstable, like she was crazy.

Behind her, Drake spread his hands apart and prepared his arms like he was about to clap.

"Oh no," Nightcrawler thought as he teleported onto Jean and teleported away with her. As they left, Drake did a thunderclap where she stood.

As the fight continued on the outside in Drakes mind a even more fierce battle started

Drake's battle against the relentless, monstrous forces within him had taken an even more harrowing turn. As he fought to regain control over his powers and himself, a haunting whisper seemed to echo in his mind - the voice of Jean, the girl who had betrayed him. Her words, laden with deceit and betrayal, cut through his thoughts like a jagged blade, intensifying his inner struggle and causing his rage outside to increase with a mighty roar that shook the ground like a earthquake.

Amidst the chaos of his internal conflict, Emma's presence remained a guiding light. She stood steadfast by his side, her words of encouragement intermingling with Jean's poisonous whispers. Drake's brow furrowed in concentration, his internal battle now fought on two fronts – against the monster within and the toxic memories that threatened to unravel his resolve.

As he unleashed torrents of fire upon the writhing shadows that represented his inner turmoil, flashes of memory played out before his mind's eye. Scenes of his time with Jean, once sweet and cherished, now twisted and tainted. Drake's heart pounded in his chest as conflicting emotions surged through him – anger, betrayal, longing, and a desperate desire to understand why.

Emma's voice cut through the tumult, grounding him in the present. "Drake, focus! You're stronger than this!"

Gritting his teeth, Drake redoubled his efforts, his flames burning hotter and brighter. The battlefield around him became a swirling tempest of fire and shadows, each element vying for dominance.

In the midst of the chaos, a monstrous shadow emerged – a manifestation of Drake's inner turmoil, distorted by his unresolved feelings. It lunged at him, and Drake barely managed to erect a barrier of fire to shield himself. With a fierce roar, he pushed back against the creature, the flames from his hands clashing against the creature's dark tendrils.

Amidst the fray, Jean's voice taunted him, planting seeds of doubt and anger. Drake's concentration wavered, and a tendril of darkness managed to break through his defenses, grazing his arm. He winced in pain, both from the physical wound and the emotional anguish Jean's voice had inflicted.

"Is this all you're capable of, Drake?" Jean's voice sneered. "No wonder I left you."

The words stung like a thousand bees, and for a moment, doubt gnawed at Drake's resolve. But then, Emma's voice soared above the negativity. "Drake, remember who you are! Don't let her define you!"

With a fierce growl, Drake summoned his inner strength, channeling his fury into his flames. The fire roared to life, consuming the darkness that had taken shape before him. The ground trembled beneath the force of their clash, and then, in a blinding explosion of light, the darkness was vanquished.

As the smoke cleared, Drake stood panting, his body trembling from the exertion. His eyes, once clouded with uncertainty, now blazed with determination. The memory of Jean's betrayal still lingered, but it no longer held power over him.

Emma approached, a mixture of relief and pride in her eyes. "You did it, Drake."

Drake looked to the sky. The once crimson hues were giving way to the serene blue he had missed so dearly. He took a deep breath, the air feeling fresher than ever before. The battles he had fought, both external and internal, had led him to this moment of clarity.

Turning to Emma, he gave her a grateful smile. "Thank you for believing in me."

She returned the smile, her eyes sparkling with pride. "Always, Drake."

With a newfound sense of purpose, Drake's body that still held features of his monstrous form ignited once more, his flames carrying him aloft. He surveyed the battlefield, the scars of his struggle now illuminated by the sun. As he gazed upon the damage he had inadvertently caused, a sense of responsibility settled over him but more intensely a pang of guilt.

With one final glance back at Emma, Drake soared into the sky, his fire-powered flight carrying him away from the wreckage he had left behind.

As Drake flew over the estate, his heart heavy with the weight of his actions, he couldn't help but notice the impact his battle had on the world around him. The X-Men, his fellow mutants and friends, were scattered across the battlefield, some tending to injuries, others aiding in the clean-up. Their faces bore expressions of concern, determination, and a hint of relief as they watched Drake's fiery ascent.

Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, stood with a stern expression, his visor raised to reveal his intense gaze. He barely remembers what happened before he woke up but he knows one thing Drake is no longer the pathetic mutant he was before instesd he is strong now and that's a threat to him.

As Drake soared higher, a powerful shockwave rippled through the air, causing debris to scatter and dust to dance. Storm, her eyes glowing with the remnants of her weather-manipulating powers, stood at the epicentre. Her expression held a mixture of concern and understanding, as if she too had faced inner demons and knew the struggle Drake was enduring.

Wolverine, a figure of unyielding strength, surveyed the aftermath with his signature gruffness. His keen senses likely picked up the turmoil within Drake, even from a distance. Despite their differences, Wolverine's nod seemed to convey a begrudging respect, an acknowledgment of Drake's determination to overcome his inner darkness but he was stilled pissed as incinerated still hurts.

As Drake continued his flight, his thoughts turned to the mansion that had been his home, a haven for mutants. He had nearly succumbed to his rage, nearly destroyed the very place that had provided him with refuge. But as he approached the mansion, flames at the ready, his fiery escape came to an abrupt halt.

In the midst of the chaos, amidst the debris and the devastation, stood a small, trembling figure – a little girl, her eyes wide with fear, fixed upon Drake's monstrous form. Her innocence, her vulnerability, shattered the facade of rage and power that had consumed him. For a moment, the memory of his own childhood, the struggles he had faced, and the sense of being different, surged to the forefront of his mind.

Drake's flames faltered, dimming to a gentle glow. He lowered himself to the ground, his monstrous exterior slowly receding, revealing the man he truly was beneath the turmoil. The little girl's fearful gaze met his, and he extended a hesitant, reassuring hand.

"It's okay," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the lingering echoes of battle. "I won't hurt you."

The girl's wide eyes studied him for a moment, her fear gradually giving way to curiosity. She took a cautious step forward, her tiny hand hesitantly reaching out to touch his fingers. As her touch made contact, a rush of warmth spread through Drake, a connection that transcended words.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he looked upon the innocent life he had nearly shattered. He understood now – his struggle, his battle, wasn't just about himself. It was about protecting those who couldn't protect themselves, showing them that even amidst the darkness, there was still hope.

With a determined smile, Drake lifted off the ground once more, the flames of his power now more softly flowing as he was gently lifted into the sky. He cast one last glance at the mansion and his fellow X-Men, a silent promise to never return as he didn't want this to happen again.

And so, he soared into the horizon, his head began to feel light and his eyelids felt heavy and Drake realized he was passing out and with  last bit of effort he poured all his energy into one giant explosion to send him away.
