Chapter 16: The Restaurant

"Ahh! Ahh!" He panted heavily. He was about a hundred meters from the City gate.

He stood in the long line.

After less than half an hour, his turn came. During the time he waited, he had rested.

"Where do you come from?" The guard asked, not even bothering to raise his head and look at Nolan.

Only now did Nolan realize he had a big problem. He didn't know anything about this world.

Though when he first arrived, his goal was to find information about the world, with all the sh.it that happened, he forgot to inquire about this world. And what does he say now? He used the traveler line last time. And this time, he was in his beggar mode.

'Why do all the sh.it come at me at once?!! Can't it come one by on?!!' He screamed inside.

Not getting a reply, the guard raised his head.

His eyes dilated when he saw Nolan's face. "You..." The guard immediately got out of Nolan's way.

'Was he one of the guards that saw me leave the city with the group?' Nolan thought as he entered the city.

He immediately stormed towards the restaurant.

...

Half an hour later, Nolan arrived at the restaurant.

"Beautiful." He muttered.

The restaurant had two floors, and there were even terraces on the chambers on the second floor. The design of the restaurant was simply beautiful.

Nolan was satisfied with himself and the work he had done in designing the place.

"Get away from here!" Nolan heard an angry roar.

Nolan shifted his attention from the second floor to where the voice came from.

A guard from the entrance of the restaurant shouted at him.

There were two guards at the entrance. Though Nolan was twenty meters (65 feet) from the restaurant, they still shouted at him.

He stank. How could he not stank after an hour of running and not washing for five days?

Nolan got closer to the restaurant. When he was five meters (16 feet) from the entrance, he recognized the guards.

It was two of the slaves he bought.

"I told you to get away from here!" The guard screamed and rushed to Nolan, ready to punch him.

Slap!

Nolan slapped him.

"Have you got to your senses?" He said, pushing his messy hair back.

Now the guard who wanted to punch him saw his face clearly.

"B-boss?" He muttered unsurely.

"Go call Harley or Nara," Nolan said to him.

"YES!" The guard immediately rushed into the restaurant.

"Boss, what happened to you?" The other guard asked.

"It's a long story." Nolan waved his hand.

The guard didn't pursue the matter further. After all, he was in no position to question Nolan.

Quickly after, both Nara and Harley came out of the restaurant running.

"What happened?" Harley asked.

"It's a long story. Nara, can I bother you to find some clothes for me? If possible, the same design as this one. Harley, please prepare a bath for me."

"Come. Come inside," Nara said and pointed at the restaurant.

"No." Nolan waved his hand. "It would damage the reputation of the restaurant. It's better to go to your house."

"Alright." Harley led the way, and Nolan followed behind.

They quickly arrived at Harley's house.

Harley prepared a bath for Nolan. And Nolan quickly washed and came out, covered in a linen cloth.

Nara had already returned with the clothes.

She had bought a blue-white hanfu.

Nolan entered the room he previously stayed in, dressed up, and took the white jade hairpin out of the inventory. He tied his black hair, and now he again looked like a rich young master.

He then left the room and entered the living room, where Nara and Harley waited for him.

There was a big round table in the living room and a few three-legged chairs around the table.

On the table was a plate of pizza and a bowl of noodles.

Nolan sat on one of the chairs. Only now, when he smelled the food, he realized how hungry he actually was. Thus, he dug in the food.

He quickly devoured the food.

"What happened to you?" Harley asked.

"Ahh!" Nolan let out a deep sigh. "It's like this..."

Nolan told all the events that happened since he left and why he returned this time. Of course, he left out a tiny detail. That was that bandits were going to attack his village in a month. They didn't need to know that, at least not for now.

"Are you crazy?!" Harley shouted.

"What's the problem?" Nolan asked.

"You can't build a village there. They are going to destroy your village." Harley said worriedly. "And the location couldn't be worse.

"Explain."

"This city is the Womvale city. Womvale City is the second largest city in the Bergon Empire, second only to the capital city, Rowan city. Womvale city has a population of over a million.

On the east, the Bergon Empire borders the Ezapelan Kingdom.

On the west is the Wallohan Empire.

On the south, we border with Havalon Empire. And on the north, the we border the Pareal Kingdom.

The other Empires and the Pareal Kingdom are not the problems. We are on friendly terms with them.

The problem is the east, the Ezapelan Kingdom.

Fifty years ago, the Ezapelan Kingdom invaded our Empire, and war broke out. The war lasted for two years, and in the end, we forced them to retreat.

But recently, the relationship between our Bergon Empire and the Ezapelan Kingdom is worsening again. And war could break out at any moment.

And you build the village on the borders. If the war really did break out, there is a chance your village would be the first to be destroyed." Harley explained.

"I see. But that's not going to happen. The terrain is bad, so it would be hard for troops to move. They are most likely to invade from somewhere other." Nolan said.

"That's not the only problem. A few hills from your village, there should be a bandit village. If I'm not wrong, its name was the Celestial Snake Village." Harley said.

'It's them." Nolan thought.

"No problem," Nolan said with a smile. "Nara, how is the restaurant doing?" He changed the subject.

"It is doing well. We are making huge profits, especially from the gambling facility in the basement." She said happily. The life she had now was far better than the life she had as a noble.

"That's good. I would leave fifty bags of grain. That should be enough to make money and buy ingredients in large quantities."

"It is enough." She smiled.

"Nara, what are the closest cities called?" Nolan asked. After all, he needed this information, so he would have excuses when the City Gate guard asked him.

"There are only two cities in this area, Delfield and Dale. Both are about ten days on foot away from here." She replied.

"I see, thank you." Nolan stood up.

"Where are you going?" Harley asked.

"Is Kelton in the restaurant? I need his help to build the village."

Nolan didn't want to waste any more time. There were a few hours before the sunset. He needed to discuss the details of building the village with Kelton and then leave early in the morning.

"Yes, he is. I was about to go to the restaurant, so let's go together." Harley said.

They left the house and headed toward the restaurant several buildings away from Harley's house.

"Where do I place the bags of grain?" Nolan asked as they walked.

"After you left, Kelton found a little hole in your drawing. In the original drawing, there was no place to store the ingredients, so he added a building next to the restaurant."

"Take me there," Nolan said.

Harley didn't need to question where were the bags of grain. He had witnessed Nolan's sorcery before.

It didn't take long. They arrived behind the restaurant. There too, were two guards guarding the entrance of the storage building.

"Boss!" The guards saluted Nolan. They too were slaves that Nolan bought together with Kelton.

Nolan just nodded.

The guards opened the door, and Nolan entered inside, while Harley remained outside.

The building was almost empty. There were only a few bags of grain and flour there.

"System, take out fifty bags of grain," Nolan ordered.

Pam! Pam! Pam! Pam!

The bags of grain piled in the building.

After the fifty bags were piled, Nolan left.

"Take me to Kelton,"

Harley nodded and started walking toward the entrance of the restaurant. Nolan followed, and soon they entered the restaurant.

The restaurant was big, and there were at least fifty tables, but all the tables were full. The business was blooming.

"Harley, how much do you charge for a meal?" Quietly asked Nolan as Harley led him to the second floor.

"For the noodles with tomato sauce, we charge thirty copper coins. For the pizza, a silver tael. And for the hot pot, three silver taels. If someone wants to spend the night in the chambers, we would charge him two silver taels.

Here is the interesting thing Nara thought of. If the person, before paying for a night in the chambers, orders a hot pot, he will be charged only one silver tael for the night." Harley explained whisperingly.

'They charge ten times the average amount of money for noodles.' Nolan thought. 'And the tactic Nara thought of is good. I expected no less of a noble woman.'

Lost in their talk, Nolan and Harley didn't even notice that they arrived before Kelton's chamber.
