Chapter 5: Shogi
"Come on! Keep it up! 6 more laps!" Yelled Iruka sensei at the class full of sweating kids running laps around a field.
Ena was running next to a black-haired kid named Sasuke at the front of the class with a neutral and unaffected look on his face, while the black-haired kid Sasuke had a determined look as he kept on speeding up, trying to get ahead of Ena.
Yep, Sasuke was trying to get first place in the fitness test. That is what they were doing at this moment. But sadly, Sasuke didn't know that if Ena wanted to get first place for this test, he would have done so in the first minute.
While Sasuke, Naruto, Sakura, Ino, Hinata, choji, Shikamaru , etc. We're sweating and trying our hardest to get a good grade or first… well, maybe not Shikamaru and choji. Ena was currently thinking about something else much, much more critical.
'Hmm, if I can get mom to forget about the written test grades and show her that I did good in all of the physical exams, then maybe she will give me some more Dango or even make me a cake!….'
Ena got brought out of his thoughts, noticing he was falling behind. 'Hmm, I seemed to be falling behind… I have to get first. I don't want Sasuke to be gloating and tell me, 'I'm so better than you, smirk.'
Ena and Sasuke have started to have a weird rivalry between them since the start of the year, as well as Naruto. But Sasuke, for some reason, always chose to ignore Naruto. Maybe it was because Naruto consistently didn't score well on all the exams or something else, but Ena didn't care. On the other hand, Naruto and Ena quickly became friends thanks to their similar personalities and their trouble-making nature. It made it relatively easy for them to become good friends.
Ena found out early on how the village treated Naruto, thanks to some stalki*cough* information gathering. He knew how Naruto was treated and how people called him a demon, a fox, or a monster. He made a connection to the vast fox he saw on his first day in this new world but quickly denied that thought. Sure, he may have a couple of whiskers, but that doesn't make him a fox or a monster.
Anyway, he felt great sympathy toward Naruto. Ena has had his own experiences with loneliness and depression in his past life, and Naruto has it ten times harder than he did. So, it made him want to be friends with him. He couldn't imagine how Lonely Naruto must be feeling.
So, Ena quickly made an effort to become friends with Naruto, and he did so quite quickly. He just asked if he wanted to be friends and Naruto started bawling his eyes out like it was some miracle. Ena and Naruto also became friends with Shikamaru and choji. It was their little group.
Ena looked at the group in front of his getting further away, and decided to speed it up. His figure blurred as he quickly caught up to the group calling directly in the show—1st place.
Sasuke looked at Ena's back with a glare 'damn! His bloodline limit makes him so much faster than me! No matter how much I train! I can't get as fast as him! I have to awaken my Sharingan; then I'll show him the true night of the Uchiha! Maybe big brother Itachi might…' Sasuke thought as his glare intensified on Ena's back.
Naruto running a little behind Sasuke, was panting, looking at Ena and Sasuke with determination. 'I have to get stronger! I can't let Ena leave me behind! And I have to beat Sasuke! I won't let him look down on me.' Naruto then quickened his pace with newfound determination as he tried his best to get up to Sasuke's position with all his body strength he had left. Even if Naruto's legs were aching with each push off the ground, he still continued with one thought in his mind: 'I won't be left behind!'
The rest of the students saw Naruto slowly catching up to Sasuke with wide eyes as they all found new determination. 'I won't let this loser beat me!' They all thought simultaneously, except for one shy girl.
Iruka watched this all happen with a smile 'this is great. They all keep competing with each other and keep pushing each other to continue and do better. If this continues, everyone should get a good grade on the physical exam this year….'
In the end, Ena got. First, Sasuke got second, Kiba got third, Naruto got fourth, Hinata got fifth, Shino got sixth, and so on.
After school, Ena, Naruto, and Shikamaru were on their way to Shikamaru's house to play a game of Shogi. Surprised? Well, Shikamaru kept on saying that they were both idiots and even made a bet that Ena could never win a match of shoji against him in years, and if he did, then Ena would get a free lunch from Shikamaru. So, of course, Ena was going to prove him wrong while simultaneously getting a free lunch.
Now in Shikamaru's room, sitting around A shoji board, were three people. Two of them were frustrated, while the third was bored. "Can you guys give up? You're not going to win. It's honestly a pain, and it's boring, and I don't want to play anymore," Shikamaru said lazily, getting up after he had won ten straight games in a row and was now bored. I was not finding any good competition.
Naruto scratched his head and thought about it, but Ena slammed his hand on the board and growled, "no, you have to keep on playing!"
"Why?" Shikamaru asked, looking at the angry Ena "because it's not over until I win! I don't care if I lose another ten, twenty, thirty, or a hundred games! I won't give up, and I won't quit or stop playing till I win!" Ena said as he stared directly at Shikamaru.
Naruto's eyes widened then he got angry "hey! Ena! I'm going to win first! Because I'm going to become the Hokage! If I can't win first, how can I become Hokage!" Ena stared at him and then laughed.
"You become Hokage? If that happens, you have my word that I'll become your shadow Hokage." Ena said sarcastically
"Shadow Hokage? What's that?"
"Um, I don't know, it just sounded cool! Like a strong guy to be in the Hokage's shadow to help him out whenever the real Hokage needs it. You know a guy In The shadows!" Ena said, not paying attention to his words, but Naruto took them to heart.
After another 20 games, Ena started to get the hang of the game and was beginning to make it difficult for Shikamaru…. But on the other hand, Naruto hasn't made any progress. Except for getting angrier with Shikamaru's taunting, calling him an idiot and other names like a moron, and so on.
After another six games, Ena finally won. It was already dark outside. Ena got up, yawned, looked down at the frustrated Shikamaru with a smirk, and said, "I'm sorry, I'm getting quite bored now, and it's getting late, so I think it's time for me to leave…" 'hehe in your face Shikamaru, that's got to burn!…. Now to get me some food!' Ena thought, ignoring Naruto's angry shouts and mumbling Shikamaru as he left the house.
