Chapter 2: DWELLERS

My body starts moving again and my eyes are still half-closed, it seems like I hibernated for so long. The elderwood where I laid myself grew bigger than what I remember.

I found myself lying on the top of the tree and my staff afloat, illuminating the surrounding. As I look down I saw foreign formations of rocks new to what I usually see. The towering heights of the well-stacked rocks was a beauty to my eyes, the surrounding was noisy but felt peaceful at the same time, and then it came back in my mind that I was not alone.

"So it was not a dream.." I smiled.

I took my staff and jumped down from the great height of the elderwood, the noise of surrounding became silent and the creatures gathered around me and lowered their heads, but I felt uncomfortable. The essence of the world became thin and a presence of otherworldly power was abundant.

"We greet the beloved Ev'raim!" they exclaimed.

Two beings came from the crowd and ordered everyone to scram, the other one was a female with pointed ears and unparalleled beauty, and the other one was a short legged buffed man that shares the same characteristics as hers.

"My name is Alva, the leader of the elves," said the woman.

"Greeting high Ev'raim, I am Gilgnar the chief of the dwarves." said the short legged man.

I was a bit confused to how I could understand them even though it was my first time meeting them, and so I asked and Alva answered me.

"It is because of the authority given to you by `¶~@*!œ--. Ev'raim," she said.

"Pardon, what did you say? Given by whom?" I asked

"By `¶~@*!œ--, Ev'raim"

It seems like I was restricted to know about the one she mentioned that moment, so I did was to accept their invitation and attended the feast they prepared.

That night was the first time I have a meal accompanied by others and they shared stories, wisdom and knowledge they attained from the very long time of their existence. The most remarkable topic they shared was the concept of 'time' on which almost everything correlates to it, and with that information I began to understand the concept of life and the lifespan mentioned by the trees.

And so the cycle began again, I sleep, visit them in a regular basis and learned the otherworldly foundations of their concept.

Alva was the wisest of them all, she holds the knowledge of their previous world and present in every historical events and revolution,

"We still don't know the criteria of why the worlds shatter their realities to connect to one another, but we knew that when a portal opens we must evacuate to the other side. Many argued about it but as time passes we gradually accepted it as a natural phenomenon and called it 'Gate'.

The only thing that we are sure is that gates are the herald of world's destruction, I saw it myself on our fourth migration, we are the last one who crossed the gate when it suddenly became non-permeable. Half of our tribe who couldn't get through died along that collapsing world." she said as tears started to fell from her eyes.

As I live with them I learned so much many things, too much plenty I've lost my count. But among those, what I know the most important thing that time is what they call 'emotion', for every living being was united by their love, and united by their pain, without it.. chaos.
