Chapter 20: CHAPTER XX: Hunted.
It was 1248 when my life was forever changed, my messengers told me that the Bulgarian Emperor Kaliman I died mysteriously, thus destroying the Bulgarian-Roman relations within a glimpse of an eye. Empress Eirene created a feast with only me invited, quite suspicious as why they didn't invited other nobles or dukes from other countries? But nevertheless, I went to the feast by horse and I was escorted by the Roman Cataphracts instead of my Saint Lazarus Knights as almost all of them gathered by George for the Seventh Crusade against the Arabs.
I have arrived at the said meeting place for the feast, on the outside it was a grand castle but when I stepped inside the doors were locked shut by the Bulgarian guards, my Roman Cataphracts sheathed their swords and one swinged his weapon at me, I managed to swiftly avoid it and I managed to grab my dagger and stab him in his crotch. While the other one tried to maul me with his mace but because of his slowness, I still managed to knock him off. The Bulgarian guards slowly approached me with their weapons, I carefully observed their stances and movements. I saw one that is heavier but he looks strong so I snatched a mace from my enemy's body and charged at him, I managed to dodge every swings of his morningstar and soon the others tried to surround me. However, I managed to kill him before they encircle me into a corner, I instantly looked for a window to jump on, and went for it. With the mace still at my hand, I threw it to the window and hopefully it will break.
The mace finally made contact with the window and it broke completely, I managed to get outside of the castle and find my way out of the inner castle, the castle did had 2 parts, and the path to the gate was blocked by the guards. So I quickly changed my clothes into a simple servant of the castle and walked towards them with a cart full of horse dung, they allowed me to go through so I finally escaped, and it did not took to long for them to find out that I was not a servant, so I ran as fast as I can till they finally gave up.
I can't believe that both of nations want me dead because of my powers, I will return to Adrianople or Nicaea to either retrieve my things and flee, or face them like a lion.
