Chapter 3: I know your secret

Whispering the plan to her hearing, Mae pulled away and shook her head.

"Fuck no!" She spat, kicking on the wall.

Dahlia folded her arms and smiled, "would you love the front door, I don't mind though."

Mae flinched at the suggestion, looking at the rest of her teammates who looked longingly and hopeful for her to follow through with whatever plan was whispered.

To them, it was way better than following the psychopath and ending up like the dead man.

Placing her hand on the wall, Mae closed her eyes as she inhaled and exhaled.

Feeling the slightest vibrations from the tiny particles of metal, she was able to locate where it was explained.

"Got it!" She beamed, pulling her hand and turning to Adam.

Adam rolls his eyes and turns to the rest, pointing at the three who were yet to use their abilities for the team's benefit.

"Sure, use the enhancer awakener's abilities for hard labor." He muttered with a hint of sarcasm.

Balling his hand in a fist, he shook his head. 'Here goes nothing.'

Bam!

–––––––––––

"Watch it!" Mae hissed to the rest who followed her closely from behind.

The maze tunnel they had taken as a second option was dark, with Mae as the guide they needed to search for the rest.

They had all pegged their nose to the pungent smell that coated the sides, crawling through the narrow space with Mae trying her best to calm her gag reflexes.

Unlike the others who had the luxury of dipping their hands into the shallow water to aid their movements. She needed to place her hand on the slimy walls to properly detect the slightest vibrations on where the remaining awakeners were kept.

"Remind me next time not to follow your wonderful idea, Dahlia."

"Move!" They all hissed in unison at Mae as they collided with one another due to her abrupt stop.

Gritting her teeth, Mae called on any who was willing to take over her current job description.

When no one took the initiative, even though she couldn't see any of their faces, there was bound to be a confident smirk on their stoic faces after their outburst.

Nnnnnnnn!

"There!" Mae pointed below them before making a separation gesture with both hands which created a dent that tore, letting a fraction of light.

Splat!

The green water seeped through the crack as it dropped below them.

They all watched with disgust at what they had dipped their hands in for minutes.

"There are tons of things wrong with this place. How dare they mess with nature?!" Dahlia grimaced as she shook her hand.

Creating a larger hole to pass through, Mae crawled and dropped from it.

Thud!

Groaning from the pain, she forced herself up to verify its safety. "Clear!"

They all dropped one after the other, skeptical about how quiet the room was.

Dahlia covered her mouth as she stared wide-eyed at a boy strapped to a surgical table with his bloody claws littering the floor.

His orange hair hung loosely over his eyes and his mouth opened to reveal his little canines.

Dried blood trails which had run down his forehead and onto the floor could be seen with a fresh one overlapping with the constant bleed occurring as a machine strapped to his head drilled 5mm every five seconds.

"He's a biomorphic awakener." One of them blurted out.

Zzzt!

Rai made the same gun gesture at the machine, shoving his hands into his green khaki pants with pride at targeting it with great precision.

"Another one down!" He cackled, whistling as he pushed open the door.

"Shouldn't we split up and look for the rest, I would rather save a damsel than a chump!" Rai concluded by pointing down the hallway.

Fixtures of recessed lights embedded into the ceiling flickered with every passing second.

Rolling her eyes at how shameless Rai was, she also knew he was right, they had limited time to search for the rest before some permanent damage would be caused by the mysterious boy.

Dividing them into a group of two while she chose Mae and Adam to be with her, and nodded her head to the rest.

"Be careful."

As soon as the remaining four had left, Dahlia brought her attention back to the boy.

Taking unsure steps towards him, they all proceeded with caution.

Reaching out, she jumped back when the boy whipped back his head and snapped intending to bite any who had approached him.

"You're a feisty one." Adam laughed at the effort made by the boy on his rescuers.

"Don't be stupid, you want to get out of here? We're your only bet."

For a brief second, the boy stared at them with his green eyes glowing and chest heaving with suppressed anger.

"What's it going to be?" Mae batted her lashes with a grin.

–––––––––––

In room 05,

"Aren't we all monsters?" Sylvester cackled with a twisted grin.

In a squatting position, he caressed a sleeping Lila's hair with a growing smile, before switching to a glare from the sound of a tray falling from the table while Damian tries to flee.

Getting to his feet, he let out a sigh. Kicking the body of a scientist out of his way.

Pushing back, Damian shook his head, picking up a fallen tray from the floor and throwing it at an approaching Sylvester.

Deflecting the projectile with his arm, Sylvester shook his head. "A failed anomaly, huh?"

"I said you had great potential and I was right." Damian barked in his defense.

Sylvester looked over his shoulder at Lila who turned, creating numerous more creases on the folded lab coats and scrubs of their captors.

Sigh!

"It took me minutes to calm her down and another seven minutes to strip off some clothes to cushion her while she sleeps..."

"What?!" Damian muttered, confused by the start of his words.

Activating the glow in his eyes as he made yet another step closer, forcing Damian to sit still.

Unable to move his body, Damian's thoughts spiraled into chaos.

"All she wants is yours to complete the collection." Sylvester reached out to Damian's collar, stepping on his wounded thigh, and pushing the broken piece of the pen further in.

'Aaaaghh!! No, please no!'

"No?" Sylvester tilted his head, "you never acknowledged the pain I felt even when I couldn't speak."

"I... know..." Damian tried to fight against the hold.

Raising a brow at the attempt, Sylvester nodded his head and let go.

"I know a secret about your parents!" He spat out in a bid to delay his inevitable end.

Sylvester stand frozen in shock, his fists clenching beside him.

A smirk tugged at Damian's lips as he let out a low chuckle, "brings back memories, doesn't it?"
