Chapter 2: Lord Daniel Steele

Twelve years ago.

David got tired of the paperwork in his front. Ever since he assumed the position of the Don of the family, there had been too much work for him that he didn't have much time for himself talk more of his family.

Though his father supported him behind the scenes, there was still a lot to learn as the new Don of the family.

He glanced at his wristwatch and it was 9:45 pm, his wife would definitely be worried about him.

He sluggishly stood up from his seat as he gathered few of his things and went out of his office.

His assistant; Kelvin was behind him as usual. He made his way to the parking lot and got into the car that was waiting for him.

After making himself comfortable in the car, he shut his eyes to have a little rest since his house was far away from his workplace.

A call disturbed his peaceful sleep causing him to sigh. He glanced at his phone and found out that it was an unknown number.

"Hello sir, there is an attack at your home, the network has been cut off and no one can leave nor enter." He heard one of the soldiers say and his mind skipped.

David didn't waste much time as he ended the call and dialed his father's number.

"Father? What is going on?" David asked, feeling goosebumps all over his body.

"There is an attack and it's from the Spencer family." Daniel replied with a tone of anger.

"How can that even be possible? Father do something, I am far away from home and I don't think I can make it in time." David pleaded.

"I have sent my men but the report I got if futile, they can't have access into your home son. There is a bomb planted there, but don't worry, they are working on it." Daniel assured him.

At the mention of bomb, David's soul flew out of his body. God knows that of anything happens to his wife or daughter then the Spencer family would pay for it.

"Get out of the driver's seat." David commanded his driver who pulled up and obeyed him.

David drovd the car at a very high speed not minding if he hits anyone or anything. His family was his priority.

By the time he arrived home, the bomb had been disabled. He, his father and Daniel's men walked into the main building only to find out that the soldiers on duty were drugged and were sleeping.

David rushed into the living room only to find out he arrived late.

His wife was in a pool of blood as his only daughter held her in her arms and was begging her to come back. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying too much.

David felt his heart broken into a million pieces, he couldn't breath. The air in the room became too hot for him to breath.

Daniel was the next to enter the living room and upon seeing his daughter in law dead, he stilled.

The Spencer family has bitten more than they can chew.

Some of David's men rushed and carried Helen.

"Take her to the hospital, she might still be alive." David said, he was hoping that Helen would keep to her promise of never leaving him.

No! She can't leave him alone with Summer.

"Pumpkin, come over here." Daniel called the crying girl as he carried her in his arms and followed David who walked like a lifeless being.

He knew that Helen was dead but wasn't telling David until the doctor comfirms it.

"Grandpa, would mom be okay?" Little Summer asked in tears.

"Yes she would be alright and stop crying pumpkin." Grandpa cleaned her tears for her.

Daniel wanted to scream and cry but couldn't because David and Summer needed someone strong by their side.

Helen was taken to the family's hospital as they attended to her quickly because of her husband's influence.

Hours later, the doctor returned with a sad face and that was when David knew that Helen had gone for real but he still chose not to believe. He was praying for a miracle to happen.

"I am sorry David Steele but we lost her." The doctor said.

"No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Presently.

David sprang up from the bed as he was sweating all over his body. His hair was a mess and his body ache him.

For the past twelve years, he couldn't get the memory of his late wife out of his head. A lone tear escaped his eyes but he cleaned it immediately.

He got down from bed and went to freshen up. After brushing his teeth, he decided to go for an early morning run to clear his mind.

"Dad?" David stopped when he got to the living room and saw his father sitting on the couch, reading newspaper.

"David." Daniel called out.

"What brings you here?" David asked quite surprised to see his father in his house.

"I came to visit my stubborn son who doesn't want to visit me." Daniel told him and he scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"It is just that I have been to busy with…"

"Grieving Helen, your late wife." Daniel completed David's statement for him.

"Listen son, I get that you are still hurt after the death of Helen. I was also affected by it but there is whole new world out there for you and I know that Helen wouldn't want you to be in such a condition like this." Daniel said.

"Wait? Are you telling me this to get a new wife?" David asked.

"Yes I am. We need a heir apparent to the family's position." Daniel stated causing David to laugh.

"First of all, Helen is and would be the only woman to bear the title of my wife. Secondly, I don't need any heir when Summer is available. Haven't you noticed she wants to be the next head of the family?" David asked.

"But she is girl?" Daniel complained.

"And so what? Don't you think it is high time that females are given the opportunity to work in this family?" David asked.

"Fine I agree with you but what about the rest members of the family?" Daniel asked.

"Dad, since when did you start caring about thier opinion? Have you forgotten who you are. You are lord Daniel Steele." David told him and his eyes shone.

It's time to become the monster everyone hates just for his granddaughter.
