Chapter 49: Letters Instead of Names
the king opened the door and inside I saw four dwarfs that were fighting amongst themselves. I saw two female dwarfs and two male dwarfs all wearing different types of armor as well as different varieties of weapons.
the room had one massive circular table and some wooden chairs around it. then I also saw some art on the wall and also some crevices within the wall with one on each wall where they had put dwarven pottery.
"hello can I have your attention please" the king said in a normal tone of voice. they did not move at all so he switched to his commanding voice and they said the same exact thing.
after they heard his commanding voice they halted their arguments and stood at attention.
"Now as I was trying to say this is Gilltrude" the king said pointing at me as I entered the room. "I am assigning him to join the special forces and your group is the only one that is still looking for a tank."
"hi everyone as the king said I am a tank and I specialize in two-handed weapons."
"my job is done I was here to introduce him to you guys. you all can take it from here." the king said as he walked out of the room and shut the door.
when he left the room everyone sat down in a chair around the circular table. as soon as I sit down in one of the empty chairs one of the female dwarfs began to ask me questions.
"okay if you are a tank why were you recommended by the king to join the special forces?" one of the females asked me.
I looked at her and she had on white light armor and I saw a crossbow on her back.
"well if you must know I got in good graces with the King because I saved his youngest son's life from a group of bandits. then I also fought the orc Commander Zog that we are going to war with and survived".
"that definitely would make you worth joining the special forces then. I am sorry for the insane question I just wanted to make sure you were legit and not a poser. now just so that you know in the dwarven special forces we do not go by our actual names. just in case if someone ends up getting captured we go by letters instead.
when you refer to me while we are on missions were in a group you will refer to me as operative H."
"you can refer to me as operative L" one of the male dwarfs said to me as he rose to his feet.
he was quite skinny and she had on leather armor and I saw two daggers on his back and a set of potions on the belt around his waist.
"I do not have to tell you my name since you have not proven your worth as a tank to the group." the other female in the group who had on heavy red armor and a sword and shield said to me while she turned her head away.
"you can call me operative J. I am the groups blacksmith as well as a dual wielding warrior."
when he stood up I saw that he had on a set of medium grade armor and had two longswords on his right waist.
"now that everyone has introduced themselves in their own way we will be giving you an operative letter as well. you will be henceforth known as operative G" H said to me as she rose from the chair.
"can we please just get to the point of this meeting as soon as we can. some of us have things to do." the female that didn't give me her operative letter.
"commander of the special forces has given our team the task of cutting off the enemies supply lines. even though that seems like a very simple task that almost any adventure can take on the King was expecting extra complications that is why he requested this task for his special forces." operative H told the group.
"okay then that is what we will do" L said to all of us.
"okay then we need to get our gear together from our lockers and then we will meet each other before we depart on the mission. let us all meet at the docks within the special forces area. we need to depart in two hours." operative H said before rising up and walking out of the room.
everyone then began to leave the room and I followed as soon as everyone left.
the first thing that I did after the meeting was finished was make my way to my locker to see if the Kings Royal blacksmith had finished putting the two runes I had requested into my sword. when I made it to my locker I noticed there was a two-handed sword that had a black sheath over it.
I grabbed the sword by the sheath and pulled it out by the hilt. then I noticed that there was a glowing black and a bright red circle at the base of the metal of the sword right above the top of the hilt. the sword was pure black in the center and the edges of the weapon were silver. the dwarf blacksmith that the king had used to complete this task had done a magnificent job.
I grabbed the sword and put it back into its sheath before I placed it on my back and tied it so that it would not go loose while I moved around.
I closed the locker and left the room unsure of what I wanted to do next since I had around two hours before we were to depart on the first mission that I had as a member of the special forces.
so I decided that I was going to go to the Palace so that I could meet up with my AI before the mission.
so I left the special forces headquarters and made my way out of the special section of the city.
it was dark outside when I made it to the main city I felt truly noticed the difference in architecture art and design. I continued through the main area despite the dramatic differences until I made it to the Palace.
as I walked to the entrance gate of the Imperial Palace I saw a guard that stopped me and asked me what my purpose for trying to intrude the palace was.
"I want to meet with my servant I am in close relation with one of the princes." I told the guard.
then looked at me with much suspicion since he could not see me very well due to the darkness of the night.
then I noticed another individual that was at a higher elevation in one of the watchtowers that nodded at the guard while he looked at him.
as soon as they both finished nodding at each other the guard allowed me into the palace.
I made my way into the servants headquarters in the palace and I noticed my AI was cleaning the floor of the building's entry room.
"so it seems like they have you hard at work" I said to my AI when I walked up to her.
she was scrubbing the floor before I made it to her and then she stopped and looked up at me with a look of excitement across her face.
"hello Gilltrude; how are you doing?" she asked me when she finished scrubbing the area of the floor that she was working on.
"I am doing fine I just wanted to check on you before I went on my next mission." I told her as I grabbed her by the hand so that I could help her stand on her two feet.
"that sounds interesting" you said to me while she was dusting off the base of her maid dress.
"how are you doing with your new job as a maid? are they treating you well?"
"I am doing fine with this job and they could treat me a little bit better but it truly is not all that bad; so I can manage. I hope that you do well on your mission. I will know if you end up dying because I will die with you remember that" she told me in a quiet voice so that none of the other maids would hear her.
"well I need to get ready to leave soon. I just wanted to check up on you before I left on my mission" I said to her before she bowed to me and got back to work and then I left the maid headquarters.
I then made my way out of the Palace and into the special forces area without any trouble at all.
it felt truly amazing to be back in the better looking part of the city once again.
after I made it down to the end of the main road I turned left until I made it to the coastline where I saw loads of different types of ships both entering and exiting the port of this section of the city.
the docks were constantly filled with people moving around in a quick haste exchanging both goods and money. everyone looked truly excited by the successful business transactions.
I looked around until I found my group of the special forces and made my way to the boat that they were all standing on. it was a medium sized boat with one massive sale and it was made out of dark oak.
truthfully I knew that the next part of my journey was going to be really fun I was finally going to see some action once again when I stepped onto this boat.
