Chapter 87: Big Brother's Friend

The two seemed to have an entirely different conversation between one another and occasionally I saw both sides' eye twitch.

I had no idea what to do at the moment, whether to just leave or simply stay put for them. But as I was debating internally they finally spoke up.

"*Ahem!* We have decided.. And that decision is that we'll generously spare both of you. My dear Chun'er has decided and begged me to let you both go. Shao Huang, I'll even turn a blind eye to your transgression against me as well.

But we won't simply let you both go for free. Our one condition is that you'll both have to join the upcoming competition. Is it a deal?"

The man spoke with some agony on his expressions as his jaw must've still hurt quite a bit. He spoke almost as if he didn't just get beaten onto the ground with some humiliating hit.

'What? That can't simply be right? He came in here and caused all that commotion and in the end he's the one conceding? There must be something more and it probably has to do with that little conversation they had. Shao Haung had literally just punched him straight in the jaw! You're telling me that he's just going to let that go like nothing?'

"Alright, deal, we'll take it. I don't know what you're playing at but it's best little incident was just forgotten."

Shao Huang accepted their deal without even consulting me. I felt a little angry at this fact even though I would have accepted too. It was just that he didn't even ask for my opinion that got to me.

I glanced back and forth between those two people for a few moments before following after Shao Huang who had already begun to head out of the hall.

As I left I noticed the states of confusion on a number of the disciples still seated in the lecture hall. Of course it made sense though.

Some dramatic man came into their class yelling about wanting a personal apology, yet there wasn't even any action that occurred except for that one singular punch. Sure it added some dramatic flair, but it only went downhill the moment that Xun Chun Came. In the end he was simply let go on the stupidly easy condition of joining the competition which he would've probably joined anyway.

Didn't that man not only gain nothing, but even lose face from conceding to Shao Huang? The proposal was and is outrageous, but there had to be some kind of caught. I simply couldn't think of anything at the moment as for why they themselves would make such a disadvantageous offer.

'What was in that proposal I wonder? How good could it possibly be that he would completely forgive a man, even though his behavior so far seems like that of a very petty man.'

When I exited the hall I met up with Shao Huang who thanked me for the help before going on his own way. I accepted and left occasionally still bringing up that woman's supposed proposal. It was too easy to leave, though I suppose if we really did fight I might not be able to do too much. In fact our side would probably lose wouldn't they? I already knew that the woman was in the 3rd realm and since the dramatic guy was her lover he was probably strong too right?

I was definitely thinking about this too much. To distract myself I started to look around the path I was walking. I had already made it into the Inner Court and I could see a few disciples walking around. The streets were basking with an orange glow from the setting sun, dusk had arrived. The shadows of the numerous buildings on the side spilled over into the street like a creeping darkness. A slight pang of worry entered my mind for a moment before I pushed it away from the front of my mind.

It made me wonder for a second why Big Brother would even choose any disciples from the Outer Court to send to the secret realm.

'It would have been a lot better if he simply chose all Inner disciples wouldn't it? Sure those from the Outer Court are meeting the minimal requirements of the realm, but wouldn't we just be lambs for the slaughter? It would make more sense for him to send only the best Inner Disciples he could so that his chances for success were better.

He couldn't have only done it this way for me, right? No… Right? It's a little too much favoritism. I'm probably just overthinking this.'

At this point the orange glow only covered the tops of buildings and maybe just a sliver of the streets. The people out and about had decreased as well.

Occasionally one or two people would enter and leave my view. After a bit I heard a feminine shout behind me, but not believing that it was meant for me I continued onwards without even looking back.

"Hey! Sister, Over here!"

I kept walking, but I was waiting for another voice to respond to that first one. I felt like it was just the most natural thing to hear next, but I only heard silence. I was a bit confused, but I thought it would probably sort itself out eventually. Then after another moment she shouted again.

"Hey! Sister, turn around, I'm talking to you!"

I was a little bit tempted to just turn around right now, but I was a little worried that I would turn around to awkwardly meet her gaze which was trained on another woman. I didn't want to risk that minor embarrassing interaction so I simply ignored that second shout as well as if I didn't hear it at all.

Next thing I heard were the sounds of footsteps quickly approaching from behind me. They quickly got louder and louder. I was just about to turn around since at this point my curiosity had gotten the best of me, but then I heard the slightly sensational words of that feminine voice in my ear.

"Hey, Sister, ignoring people is bad, you know. You should really answer someone when they're talking to you!"

I slightly jumped at her words and especially since I could feel a little bit of her breath breeze past my ear.

Immediately, I spun around to face the woman who decided to go out of their way to interact with me.

She had quite a seductive look to her. She had phoenix-like purple eyes with some pink eye shadow following the tapir of her eye shape. Red rouge covered her lips highlighting a sensational feeling and adding another focal point to her face. Pristine white hair trailed and cascaded behind her. Of course there were also a couple large mounds protruding from her chest which I met at eye level because of my height.

"W-what do you want, Senior Sister?"

"Say, do you have some time to talk with me Sister?"

"No, I have to go."

Taking that as the end of the conversation I started walking away. Unfortunately it didn't seem like she wanted our conversation to end there. She exclaimed a little at my quick denial before running up to block my path.

"W-wait just a moment Sister! I'd like to ask you about that Big Brother that you hang around every so often. What's your relationship with him?"

'Great, now there's another woman openly after Big Brother! Do they really think nothing of me!? She's probably trying to use me to get close to him too. First there was that Xun Chun in the Outer Court and now there's a woman from the Inner Court! What's next?! Someone from the Core Section!?'

Feeling a bit agitated about being asked this same question a few times a day, I spoke a little harshly.

"Why do you want to know the personal relationships I have?! I don't need to tell you!"

She just smiled at me in response. Seeing that I was a little confused, but calmed down.

"Don't worry Sister, it's not what you think! You see I'm actually a good friend of that Big Brother. I was just wondering who this new friend of his was."

'Hmm, good friend she says huh? Maybe this is just her way to make me lower my guard! How can I tell if she's really lying or not? If she's real then I wouldn't want to make a horrible impression, but I think it might have already passed.

I think everyone only knows Big Brother as Brother Ip right? If she's a real friend then she'll know his real name, right?'

I took a step back and crossed my arms. A small smirk emerged from my mouth as I thought I would get her with this question. I didn't believe that many people in the sect truely knew him after all. The only ones  I could think of were the Core Elders, his disciples, and his wife, Jing Xiuying.

"Oh yeah? I want you to prove it! What's his name?"

"That's an easy one! I wouldn't be someone he knew if I didn't even know his name, right?"

I looked at her as she casually spoke of it.

'If you really knew it then you would have just said it instead of saying you knew, right?! Hah, I caught you in your act!'

"Then answer it!"

"Of course, it's Ip Jiang! Sister you didn't believe me did you? You looked like you were ready to call my bluff!"

Well she was right, I froze at her unexpected knowledge for a moment.

"What? If you're his friend then how come I've never heard about you?"

She leaned forward with a pout and hands on her hips.

"He hasn't spoken about me at all? You know, that makes me a little sad. Sounds like he forgot about me!"

'Maybe I could ask Big Brother about her. Oh wait, I don't even know her name yet!'

"Senior Sister, what's your name? I could ask him about you when I next see him."

"Aww, aren't you sweet! My name is Su Daji, I'm sure as soon as he hears it he'll remember me! What's yours?"

"Mine? My name is Xue Jinzi, nice to meet you Senior Sister!"

"There's no need to call me Senior Sister. Why don't you just call me Big Sister instead?"

'But I already have someone I call Big Sister! I can't just replace her with a new one!'

"How about I simply call you Sister instead then?"

She looked at me a bit displeased for a moment, but she quickly hid it.

"Okay, that's fine. Say Little Sister, why are you climbing up the mountain?"

"Oh I happen to live up there."

'She's calling me Little Sister already?'

"Up there? With the Core Disciples?"

"Um, no, there's actually a little house higher up the mountain where I stay."

"Oh, you're actually allowed to go up so far? How come? I don't think Big Brother's status would be able to give you such a residence could he?"

'Wait, she's calling him Big Brother too?'

"Actually it's because of this token I have. It signifies that I have connections with the Sect Master."

I took out the cerulean token that Big Brother Gave me and proudly held it out to show Big Brother's friend.

"Oh my! Fufu~ I didn't know that this Little Sister had such connections!"

She showed a wide smile which I felt had a slightly different meaning to it. At that moment I felt a shadow completely overtake the position we were standing on so quickly I bid farewell to a possible new friend.

"Ah! It's getting pretty dark! I've got to go now, goodbye Su Daji! I'll make sure to ask about you!"

"Thanks in advance! Have a safe journey!"
