Chapter 2: Comming

*Leana*

Elan was staring at me for a while now. I started to feel uncomfortable. What was he thinking? Has he nothing else to do after finishing a whole battle against aggressive fire-elves? Like sitting down and grabbing something to drink? I could see his exhaustion and his shaking chest from a distance. But still, he just stood there. Even when the score was announced, he showed no reaction.

It was very close to Blackforce's score. They had good chances.

• defeated elves: 79 -> score: 7,9/10

• strategy: 9/10

•teamwork: 10/10

-> Total: 26,9/30

I decided that I can't take Elan staring anymore. I already had goosebumps all over my body. So, I dived down to hide behind the two men in front of me. It wasn't difficult because I wasn't tall. I waited a bit, then hurried out of the stadium and went straight back to my car. I didn't want to watch the end of the event anymore.

*Elan*

It was when the ringing sound announced that the fight was over, and I looked up to the cheering audience. At that moment, my eyes immediately found her. She was standing quite inconspicuously, at the edge of the stadium. I recognized her face the first second. For a shocking moment, I lost it in the mass of people, but quickly my eyes found it again.

I always wondered, what it would feel like to meet her again. Now, I was surprised and shocked. Seeing her here was the last thing, I expected. I also felt relieved. Le was alive. Was she alright?

I needed to talk to her.

It was hard not to fly straight toward her. It was the middle of an event and all eyes were on us. I had to get one last battle done. After that, the first thing I would do was talk to her.

We lost the battle and so the winner of the Supreme-Cup was Blackforce. It was very close.

'Elan, what was wrong with you? If you were a bit more attentive, we would have won', Sean boxed my arm roughly.

That hurt. I grabbed the spot he touched and rubbed it. 'No need to say that. I know. I'm sorry'

'What distracted you that much? What's wrong, Elan?', Wynn was gentler than Sean.

I'll tell you later. I have to go. With that I left them behind, ignoring Sean's vulgar calls.

When I landed in the area where I had seen Le, most of the people were already on their way out. The humans got very excited about me being among them. They pushed each other to see me better and were chatting wildly. All of this I noticed barely. I ignored them and at that moment I didn't care whether they would call me arrogant because of that.

Running back and forth I kept looking for Le. I even shouted her Name. It seems that she was gone.

'Elan', at first, I thought it was Le. But I remembered her voice very well and it was softer than this one. When I turned around, three girls, all with black hair, stood in front of me. The girl who had called my name was standing in the middle.

They all bowed deeply in front of me.

'Leana is already gone', the girl in the middle said.

'Are you a friend of hers?'

'Kind of. What do you want from her?'

I shook my head instead of an answer.

'Can we help you?'

For a short moment, I hesitated.

'Can you tell me where I can find her?', I asked finally.

*Leana*

By the time I got to the modest house my father and I lived in it was already dark. My father was sitting outside, probably drunk, and didn't notice me. It was a miracle to me that I was affected that much by Elan. It made me exhausted. That wasn't like me at all.

After taking a shower, I was so tired, that I went straight to bed.

I dreamed. About Elan. First, we were lying in a green meadow. There were others around. I recognized them as the members of N-All. But there were also two girls. One with bushy brown hair and one who looked similar to me. With the same eyes of lacteal green and the same hair falling in a smooth blond. I didn't know her, and I could swear that I never met her. But there was still an inner voice that called her familiar.

The scene vanished and I found myself at the top of a mountain. Elan was again beside me. The landscape was very jointed and steep. I wondered how we got up here. Oh, of course. He was a fairy. Although it was cold and windy, I felt comfortable. I also wasn't afraid of falling.

A moment later I was in an old house. Elan was in front of me. The knife in his hand held against my throat.

I was sure I had had more dreams like this, but I couldn't remember the others. I didn't want to remember this anyway.

Instead, I made myself ready for work. My father owned a little beach cafe which was on the ground floor of our house. It was strange that he had the idea of opening a cafe two years ago when we moved here because he isn't the type of person who would do such a thing. It would suit him more if he were working as a grumpy craftsman. Or at least, he should have opened a bar, not a cafe.

And this wasn't the only strange thing about my dad. Both, he and I, had a lot of questionable things. During the first months of living here, the people wouldn't stop asking questions about our mysterious appearance. Only slowly they got used to us and we were accepted.

Our house was next to a beach. On warm days, you could watch the surfers from here. But today it was cold and windy. No one was out there yet.

I have never tried surfing. Nim always teased me about that. But since water wasn't my thing and I didn't even go in the sea for swimming, I really didn't want to try.

'Good morning, Le', Iris greeted me. Besides me and my dad, she was the only one working in the cafe. There were lots of employees coming and going in the past. It was fifty-fifty whether my dad had fired them, or they went voluntarily. Whereas Iris was a tough lady and the only one who could handle my father. Besides me, she was the only person who dared to talk back to him. Different than me she mostly succeeded. And without her, the cafe wouldn't last longer than two days. Ok, maybe one.

I greeted her back and went to do my duties. Since my father wasn't a great help, the two of us had to work hard and it was always tiring. The only gleam of hope was that Nim normally stopped by in the afternoon. But today I wasn't sure if I wanted to see her.

It became worse when Kesha and her friends entered the room. They came often but normally not on the weekend, so it was an unexpected surprise. As usual, they sat down at the table in the middle of the room. Kesha always thought she was in the middle of everything.

Highly not motivated I ambled to their table to take the orders. Actually, this wasn't even necessary because they always ordered the same (three hot chocolates with strawberry flavor). But I did it out of routine.

Every time I met Kesha, I felt uncomfortable, and this time even more. The thoughtful way she examined me made me think she was up to something.

When I brought them their hot chocolate, Kesha stood up and faced me. 'Can you sit down with us for a moment?'

What the hell? Am I still dreaming? This felt more unreal than the scenes I saw tonight.

'I assume you're not saying this because you want a nice conversation with me. Besides, don't you see that I'm working'

'Just for a moment. It won't be long', was she begging me?

'It's ok', Iris had heard our discussion 'you can take a little break. I can handle it alone for a while'

I gave her a sinister glance. Did she really think she was helping me?

'Ok', I had no other chance than to sit down 'What do you want from me'

'Do you know Elan?'

'The Elan? Of course, I know him. I'm not as stupid as you think'

'Yes, you are because I meant: Do you know him personally?'

'Oh. Then my answer is: of course not. Why should I? What makes you think that? I think I have told often enough that I never met any fairy personally'

'Are you sure that you never had any interaction with him?'

'No', I said immediately. What was wrong with her?

'You never met him?'

'No'

'You never spoke a word with him?'

'No!'

'You never texted him?'

Angrily, I smashed my palms on the table. 'That's enough, Kesha. If you want something from me, ask me directly. I'm leaving now'

I went back to take orders and helped Iris with the drinks. The moment Kesha and her friends left, Nim came in. Can I not be left alone? Fortunately, Nim stopped to talk to Kesha for a while and I had a few more seconds of quietness.

'How were the finals?' Nim hadn't even reached me when she was asking that question.

I ignored her and her unnecessary question.

'Come on. Tell me'

'I think I can't tell you something you don't know already', the news where full about the event yesterday.

'I know. But I want you to tell me. Please', she grabbed my wrist and knelt down in front of me to bag. I gave in.

'I'll tell you. But you must apologize first'

'I already did'

'Do it again'

'I'm sorry I shouldn't have canceled and left you alone. I swear, I won't do it again. Is that enough?'

As if she was going to keep that promise.

'By the way. It wasn't my fault that you went there alone. You could've stayed at home'

'Hey. Do you want trouble?', threatening I raised my fist.

'Ok, ok. Now tell me what I've missed. Kesha just told me she met Elan'

'Really?'

'Well, that's what she told me. Do you think she lied?'

Kesha's behavior started to make sense. Well, I still didn't get it completely. As answer, I shook my head.

'But why would someone like Elan talk to Kesha? Elan is so...'

'Scary'

'What did you just say?'

'Nothing'

'What happened that you call the most popular boy of Amena scary?'

'Forget it'

'Come on, tell me', Nim came closer and patted my back.

A cold pain arose in that area and spread through my whole body.

I bagged away. 'Nim! How many times do I need to tell you? Don't touch my back!'

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you', with a certainly played shyness she rolled her hair between her fingers.

I breathed slightly and waited for the pain to vanish. This always happened when something pressed heavily against my back. It was strange because there was no visible vulnerable spot and I never had problems with my back in the past. This symptom only occurred two years ago.

'Tell me at least the end of the battle. Who won the Supreme-Cup?', Nim continued.

'There is no need for me to tell you that. You already know', with those words I went back to work.

In the evening I was exhausted. I was both happy and afraid to finally be able to go to bed. The dreams I had last night, I felt strange about them, and I didn't want to have them again.

Iris already left and my father was elsewhere. So, it was up to me to clean everything up. I wiped the floor and took out the garbage. When I went back to the house, I had the feeling that someone followed me. Nobody was there when I looked around. I must have been mistaken. With relief but still tense I hurried back into the house. Before going upstairs, where my father's and my rooms were, I wanted to check the cafe one last time for today. But before I could check if every door was closed and every light was turned off, something distracted me.

It was a dark spot on the other side of the room. There was no light but when the spot moved, I discovered it was a person. The things on the person's back cast giant shadows on the wall.

It was a fairy.
