Chapter 18: Chapter -18: Building A City Wall.

"Still too weak," Rennes sighed. Under normal circumstances, his armed forces should have been sufficient to defend the territory. However, now there were faint signs of chaos in the Rhine region, with various Evil God believers emerging.

In the future, the arrival of the Evil God Avatar could pose a significant threat. In such circumstances, the forces at his disposal simply wouldn't suffice.

"Perhaps we can strengthen our position through other means," Rennes pondered for a moment, coming up with an idea. Relying on large-scale recruitment to bolster his forces quickly was unrealistic. There was always a risk that individuals with ulterior motives might join. Infiltration by Evil God Believers could lead to disaster. Given the risks, the rewards didn't justify such an approach.

Recruiting villagers from Pendragon Village to expand the militia seemed like a viable alternative. Although they were ordinary mortals, their sheer numbers could handle lower-level Transcendences. Rennes also planned to construct a city wall for Pendragon Village to enhance territorial defense against foreign invaders. Simultaneously, he initiated the procurement of City Defense Weapons, including crossbows.

"Expediting the acquisition of GaleWind Eagles is also essential." If he could obtain enough Gale Eagles, he could employ the taming method to secure an alternative air force. Rennes meticulously recorded these plans, prioritizing them by importance.

In the afternoon, the entire Pendragon Village mobilized in accordance with Rennes' strategy. Under the Steward's guidance, thousands of residents worked tirelessly on the city wall's construction. They primarily used Black Rock, sourced from the Black Rock Mine "donated" by the Yake family.

This Black Rock possessed exceptional durability, capable of withstanding attacks from Intermediate Warriors. The completion of the Black Rock city wall would significantly bolster their defenses against Evil God Believers.

...

The following day, Rennes rose early, organizing laborers to continue building the city wall. The external situation was increasingly perilous, and the sooner the city wall stood, the better. To expedite construction, Rennes allocated most of the family caravan's carriages for transporting Black Rock. He also significantly increased funding to double the workforce for wall repairs. He personally oversaw matters related to the construction and appointed trusted guards to supervise the militia's efforts.

Upon returning to Pendragon Manor, Rennes found a familiar figure in the living room.

"Frena, why are you here? How is Lyfa's condition?" Recognizing her identity, Rennes greeted her warmly.

"With the 10,000 gold coins you lent us, Rennes, we successfully secured the services of the bishop from the Church of Life. After several months of treatment, Lyfa's injuries have significantly improved."

"However, the source of her overdrawn Warrior Qi remains unrecovered, and her Warrior Qi upper limit has decreased by 40%. Without a rare opportunity, it's improbable for Lyfa to break through to level 7 and become an Advanced Hunter in the future." Frena's fair and pretty face showed traces of grief and sadness. Lyfa had become increasingly despondent due to her injuries.

"There must be a way to facilitate her recovery," Rennes spoke reassuringly. He understood the difficulty of restoring depleted Warrior Qi's original source. Warrior Qi was finite, and overdrawn potential was challenging to reclaim unless they stumbled upon precious treasures capable of enhancing one's aptitude. Such items, however, were exceedingly rare and beyond the reach of the Neiger Adventure Team.

Frena acknowledged this reality, even though Rennes' words offered some comfort. Her mood remained subdued.

"Frena, why have you come to see me today?" Rennes swiftly changed the topic, seeking to divert Frena from her melancholic thoughts. In response, Frena remembered her purpose for visiting.

"Rennes, I'm here to warn you about the cultists. Two days ago, numerous cultists infiltrated Cartier City and conducted an Evil Blood Sacrifice Ceremony, aiming to summon the Evil God's Avatar."

"Had Cartier City's City Defense Team not detected them in time, Cartier City might have fallen to the Evil God's minions by now." With that, Frena retrieved a compass-like magical device from her backpack and handed it to Rennes.

"It's a Sensory Compass designed to detect Negative Energy Fluctuations within a kilometer radius. When a Cultist with Negative Energy is nearby, the compass automatically issues an early warning. I hope this magical item proves helpful to you."

"I can't accept such a valuable item," Rennes protested. A device capable of detecting and preventing Cultists on a large scale was invaluable. Accepting such a precious gift without reciprocating felt inappropriate. Nevertheless, Frena insisted on gifting it to Rennes.

Left with no choice, Rennes reluctantly kept the Sensory Compass in his pocket. As a token of appreciation, he gave Frena six bottles of Advanced Healing Potions. These potions facilitated rapid wound recovery and proved highly effective for life-threatening injuries. They were essential items for adventurers.

The six bottles of Advanced Healing Potions were worth tens of thousands of gold coins, and Frena was initially reluctant to accept them. Eventually, however, she acquiesced. The two exchanged these "gifts" before chatting for a while. Frena bid her farewell and departed.

With Frena's sisters in the Neiger Adventure Team awaiting her return, Rennes watched as she rode away on her warhorse, vanishing into the distance. He then turned his attention back to Pendragon Village and began using the Sensory Compass to search for traces of cultists.

After conducting a thorough scan of the entire village, he successfully identified three cultists. These infiltrators had recently arrived in the village and possessed moderate strength, approximately at the 5th tier.

Upon being discovered by Rennes, the three attempted to resist but were hopelessly outmatched. As a 9th tier Warrior, Rennes didn't even need to employ his combat skills. He channeled the Mad Dragon Qi Art and infused it into the Storm Sword.

A cyan Wind Dragon, spanning over ten meters in length, soared from the blade and obliterated the three cultists. Rennes had eliminated a hidden threat within the village. He then refocused his efforts on the city wall's construction.
