Chapter 2: The First BW - Alden

The entrance to a big white mansion was a huge golden coloured gate. Inside the compound were cars of limited editions. The compound was divided into two by a white and gold railing gate. The inner compound was covered in artificial green grass and by the side were picnic chairs and swings. A little girl of about six years old was sitting on a swing reading a book.

The main door opened and a young man of about nineteen walked out. His hair was brown and combed back and his eyes were blue and sharp. He was the young master of the mansion, Alden, and on the swing set was his junior sister, Sophia

He stepped out glancing left and right obviously hiding from someone or something. He started to walk quickly by the sides and did not notice the little girl that appeared behind him.

"Hello there brother, where are you off too? Did you have to tiptoe so quietly?" her soothing and sweet voice sounded.

But that voice was nightmarish to him.

He jumped holding his hand on his chest. He held his knees as he began to catch his breath.

"Did you have to sneak up on me like that?" he asked with his eye twitching.

The girl laughed. The sound was angelic. "Some boys from the neighborhood came asking for you. I sent them away though. It seems your friends are 'high class. Don't you know who you are?" her voice was laced in a little bit of sarcasm.

"Sent them away? Do you even know them? I'm trying to fit into this new neighborhood in peace." Alden said upset.

"Why shouldn't I have sent them away? They stank, I mean it was obvious they hadn't had a bath for half a day!"

Alden rolled his eyes. His sister grinned and began walking towards the mansion.

"Dad knows though." her giggles filled the air. Alden's face lost all color.

A few hours later, Alden was lying on a spread on the grass with his laptop. The inner gate opened and a small white transporter parked by the fountain. The driver came out and immediately opened the rear door. A bespectacled man came out.

'Transporters. Of course we'll need them. This compound is so frigging big that more than a dozen trailers could park recklessly in it.' Alden thought. He didn't even glance back to know that it was his father that had just come back.

The bespectacled man curiously glanced at the figure on the grass. It was his son. Not his pride, though, his daughter was his pride.

"Alden." he called and became a bit startled once again at the striking resemblance of the boy with his late wife.

"Good day, Father." His dad walked towards a chair and sat down.

Alden inwardly groaned. 'This man's not going inside straight up to praise his daughter on her piano skills or anything else. It's time for a lecture. This should be the nth one I've had.' he thought

"It hasn't been easy for me after your mother's death. I want to give you and your sister the best life ever so I am working hard everyday to achieve that. Your attitude is not encouraging. Your sister makes me proud everyday spurring me on to work hard more and more. Do something meaningful. Those friends of yours are loafers."

Alden's head was bowed. This lecture was quite different from the usuals. He even heard his dad's voice crack when his mother was mentioned.

"Father, though we attend the soccer tournament, I apologize for my former ways. I'll turn into a new leaf."

His father nodded. "Okay, I'll be looking forward to it. Sophia did a good job in chasing those vagabonds away." He stood up and walked into the house not taking a backward glance.

Alden was stupefied. No matter how wrong he was, that little witch sent those guys off because they hadn't taken a bath for twelve hours at most! That's crazy. That cleanliness obsession is crazy!

⚽⚽⚽⚽

After taking a nap which didn't go well as he was haunted by nightmares, he put on a tracksuit and began to jog.

Their house was bought from a politician in Russia. Yes, they made an impromptu move from Canada to Russia after their mother's death. The house was very big and beautiful, he had to admit it. They had been here for two weeks but he hadn't seen the whole house. He wanted to jog to somewhere different today.

As he jogged, he passed the mansion and stopped to search for a map. There was a map on a holder by the side of the house. He opened it and decided to visit the little forest. It was quite a distance from where he wss but he just felt so energetic that he could travel round the world. 'What then was a compound?'

An hour later jogging on foot, Alden's forehead was covered in sweat, he was panting a little. So much for crossing the world on foot. He reached the place.

Little pine trees adorned the entrance. He slowly walked in, the scented air of trees rushing and filling his nostrils. He breathed in.

Palm trees soon came into sight, their barks presenting beautiful and elaborate designs. He slowly admired the barks, rubbing his palms on them. Calmness rushed over him. This was euphoria.

In that beautiful state he was in, he did not notice the golden light that shine behind him. On a palm tree at his back, a golden book lay. Whispers from it traveled with the breeze reaching Alden's ears alone.

The boy instantly turned back. He could not have not noticed the glowing light from a palm frond. A looked closely and saw a little book which was bathed in golden radiance.

He felt entranced and walked towards it like he was bewitched. The book slowly floated down to his area of reach. Alden stretched his hands which seemed to cut through the golden light and touched the book.

Suddenly, it was like he came back to his senses. He looked up at the book again only to find himself in his room. He felt very strange. His eyes darted around and he realized he was floating in the air. As he realized, he immediately fell to his bed.

'A dream?' he thought and didn't notice that he slowly faded away.
