Chapter 2: Arrival
Why is it that we Humans never learn from our mistakes until it's too late? Why is it that we continue to crave for more than we already have? This Greed is what sets the basis for conflict. But sometimes humans don't get into conflict with one another. That is what our world was.
Humans started to hurt mother Earth in hopes of drawing out more resources for their benefit.Naturally if you keep hurting someone they will not keep quiet forever and eventually strike back at you.This is fate that our world arrived upon.
Planet Earth year 2022 AD.
Human Population 39 Billion
This was the moment that our world fell apart.
It was a nice day like any other.People were going about doing their daily routines.The sun was shining brightly and the birds were chirping.No one, literally no one thought that it would be the last day of such comfort.
Day June 24, This was the tragic day that they arrived. And let me tell you something we weren't prepared for the predicament we were about to be put in.
The time was 12:36pm GMT +0500. I was I had only turned 9 a few days ago.It was the time when portals started to open randomly across all the world.At first we didn't know what they were or what their purpose was.Its in human nature to fear what we can't understand so that's what we did.
A few minutes after the opening of the portals creatures of unknown origins started to pour out of each of the portals.They were an unknown entity to us as we had never encountered anything like that ever before.
As soon as they came out of the portal they started killing everything in sight.Blood could be seen here and there.People were seen running for their lives but it was all in vain as there were too many of those creatures and the creatures were too strong.
Soon enough the defence force took everything into its hands but it was still in vain as normal human tech had no effect on them.All the countries of the world were shook after this scenario.
Only the rich which had access to all the resources were somehow able to survive by going underground into bunkers and stuff the rest were left out to die.
The military tried again and again to repel the forces but to no effect.They even used Nuclear weapons and it was still futile.Rather than being killed by the nuclear weapons they mutated and became stronger.
Thankfully my father was one of the richest men in a side country of South Asia. We were given Access to resources unimaginable by normal people.To secure bunkers to 30 years food supply to arms and other stuff aswell.Thanks to that we survived
But the outside world was not so well.
July 1st 2032..
The world's population had decreased from a monstrous 39 Billion to a measly 50 million.
It was a massacre, the rumbles of the battle outside shook even the walls of nuke resistant Bunker.
From there on the total population rate only decreased and decreased.Each day thousands of people met their end at the hands of those creatures.
Some Days after that, the governments of different countries finally recovered from the shock and bonded together under a single banner called the Ark.
The Ark was an institution consisting of representatives of several of the superpower countries at the time who constituted the Round bench and they were given all the major rights of the decisions.And representatives of other smaller countries were given member roles in the new system.
They soon tried to handle the situation by retreating the remaining population to the part of the continent where the concentration of the portals was the least.That being the Middle East. But they knew fair well that this was not going to be an easy task and many sacrifices had to be made.
So they made their way towards the middle East.But the higher ranked individuals in the world were already kept there unbeknownst to others.We were one of such families as my father was one of the Richest businessmen and the top biologist of our country.
In the middle East there was little to no concentration of the portals being opened as well the monsters that were present here were weak. Weak enough that they could be possibly be killed by modern tech.This proved the theory of my father that the quality of monsters everywhere was not the same.
But when they reached there the total amount of people(except the VIP's like us) was recorded to be around a 100 thousand. This may seem like a large number of people but actually it was a very small amount of you compare it to the amount before the arrival of those creatures.
They started to set up communities as well as different cities with plasma barriers around the cities.As plasma was shown to be effective against the creatures (which were named The aberrant). As well as they had an effect on the potency of the portals.
My father was made the head of one such city.It was not that big of a city but it's value lied in its researchers rather than other things.It was located near the centre of all the cities but not that centred.
After some time the researchers found out that a person who was successful in killing an Aberrant would gain certain abilities.The abilities would supposedly give them the ability to fight back against the aberrant.
These abilities ranged from being pure physical to being able to conjure Elements like in the fairy tales.
This presumably turned the tides as the weaker monsters were not able give that much trouble to the owners of such abilities.
These abilities were given the name of Arcs .
After some time it was also found out had if two persons having Arcs married and had a kid.The kid would have a greater chance to have a more powerful version of said Arc.Or maybe an enlightened version of both the arcs of the parents or an entirety new mutated arc.
Due to this there was some hope of surviving this hell.
