Chapter 4: CHAPTER 2

HAN JIHAN

"Do you know what he's like mom?" I wonder out loud, running a gentle hand over Lily's soft wool. Sunset painted the sky in a very alluring pink and golden. The last of its ray cascades down my face, leaving a golden hue.

Mom looks up from the straw she's arranging neatly beside the cowhouse.

"I have never seen him, honey." She says with an apologetic smile.

"But heard enough to know that he's a handsome, great young man." She adds, getting back to work.

"Do you think he will like me?" My voice is timid and unsure. As a cold wind washes over my form, she looks me in the eyes. Unsure of what to say, still she pretend her confidence like she always did. Now I suppose she's not as unthinkable as I thought she was or the doubt painted on her face says so.

"He definitely will, honey." She said a smile adorning her face.

"You don't know, mom. But I know that you're unsure, you don't always have to comfort me." I watch as Lily hops off to her folks. As time pass by, the sky darkens. I walk toward mom. The cold pierced through the clothes I wore to get into my skin.

"You are saying that 'cause you don't see yourself, Jih. If he doesn't like you, he'll be a fool. You, my dear, are absolutely gorgeous. I won't doubt it." Mom says, reaching for my hand as she takes me inside. Blood rushes to my cheeks, I would be damned if it wasn't cold out there.

"I hope he would. I don't want you guys to be disappointed in me." I say, not meeting her gaze.

I really do hope, he would.

I know my heart is going and wishing for something it never going to have. It makes me ashamed.

"We would never be disappointed in you, honey," Mom says with wide eyes.

"If he doesn't like you, we don't care actually. Believe me Jihan I don't care. There is a lot of alpha in this village trying to court you. And I kind of like the Mian guy. Plus, I know about their status and fame and all, I'm not expecting or suspecting anything. It's just your dad's and Aleria's ruler's deeds." She adds, carefully yet calmly. I smile at her, mouthing an 'I know' as I slip into the slippers I wear inside.

I get inside to see dad sitting on the small beige couch in the living room, a frown keeps his lips down as he looks down at a paper in his hand.

I don't know if it's okay to ask, it never was a good thing to go ask him when he's mad or upset, so I keep silent as I walk quickly toward my bedroom.

I reach for the doorknob, close, so close. But I don't grab it, something stops me from doing so. My hand halted in its movements as it fell by my side. I jerk toward my father's voice.

A grimace, and then a glare as I look at his face

"Where were you this evening?" He snarls at me. A wince evacuates my lips.

"I was here," I say daring to meet his furious gaze.

"Didn't I tell you to go to Han and bring him the money?!" I feel my eyes go wide at the query.

Fucking hell!

Goodness, how could I forget when he reminds me a hundred times this morning saying it's important?

I gulp down the uncertainty, as I dare to open my mouth: "I'm sorry" the words barely left my mouth but they still succeed at traveling and getting into my dad's ear and sticking his nerve.

Resulting in him growling. I can almost see the white fags peaking under his upper lip.

"Because of you and your silliness I had to hear an ear full from that old prick. You know how he is, Jihan. The deadline ended a month ago yet he still extended it to this day. Because of who?" He asks with fury clouding his senses. I can feel the shame licking a flame in the pit of my stomach.

"Because of Sengyun!" Dad finishes off himself, burning me with his hot glare as if I'm not already half-deep in guilt.

"And do you know what bullshit that piece of shit did? He didn't even call me first, instead, he called Sengyun! And he paid the price twice the real amount because Han lied! I have never been so embarrassed... so ashamed." If his words roared to life at first, they end with a breathy sigh of defeat, and shame...

And it does its best way to claw at my skin.

Shame colors my cheek.

My gaze left dad when I see mom entering the living room from the corner of my eyes and find hers. Mom looks at me confused. Brows propped up on her slightly wrinkled forehead.

Shame blur my vision.

I utter the last sorry as I raise my hand to twist the doorknob to the bedroom only for it to freeze mid-air. It's dad, again.

"Tomorrow, they'll be here." He says, face void of any kind of emotion. Eyes cold. I don't like him like this. But only if I did what I was supposed to. I know he's uncomfortable seeing them here tomorrow, but then again, who's he to say no or stop them?

"Okay," I say. This time my hand neither halt nor freeze mid-air, and I successfully make it into my room. Shut the door close, still, mom's hushed voice and dad's horas ones flew to my ears.

I walk closer and closer to my bed as I fall onto it as a tear slipped past my water line. I press my face further into the woolen blanket, fingers clenching on it.

I didn't know when the slumber washes over my tiered form not so late after I landed face first into the softness of my bed, that I'll be waking up the next day with an empty stomach and mom on her heels to assist for a very long day.

The day I'll be seeing Jeon Jungho, the heir of Aleria.
