Chapter 9: CHAPTER 7

JEON JUNGHO

Our parents sat in the living room when I and Jihan finally get back from the woods. We got dressed on the patio before making our way in. Being in wolf form for some time gave Jihan warmth, I guess because he's not shivering anymore.

"Oh, look who's back!" Says out loud, mom, when we stand in the hallway. A blinding smile on her cherry-painted lips. I smile back at her. Jihan's parents' and dad's gaze fell upon us at mom's voice.

"How'd it go?" dad interrogates. For some reason I don't know, Jihan's parents are quiet, staring almost anxiously at us. I see Jihan shifting beside me from the corner of my eyes before he gives me a look and walks toward his parents.

"Jungho?" I cut my eyes to dad from Jihan. I am silent. What was he asking? I don't remember.

"Yes, dad?"

"How was it?" Oh, that.

I look over at Jihan, he stands beside his mom. They both stare at me. Expecting me to say something.

"It was alright. My wolf liked him..." I trail off. My eyes find Jihan's again, they can't for a minute, look away. I'm enhanced by his beauty. His eyes show something as a smile takes over his plump lips.

"Really? That's great news then!" Jihan's mom let out a cheerful laugh. "How about you, honey?" She turns toward her son, placing a hand over Jihan's shoulder.

"My wolf liked him too..." Jihan says, a blush settling high on his cheeks. I can't help the way a smile stretches my lips.

"This is amazing!" Jaewoon sprang from the couch and lifted his hands up. Almost as soon as it happen dad rose from the couch and instead of flinging his hands up in the air as jaewoon did, he flung them across jaewoon's shoulder. Pulling him closer for a tight hug.

"I told you," Dad says on Jeawoon's shoulder. "So, when is the engagement?" Dad pulls away from jaewoon as he looks into his eyes then all of us.

"I think we can wait until Jihan turns eighteen." Jaewoon is saying. Dad's forehead creases for a second, then he shakes his head.

"Yea, it's no problem. We can wait." Dad's stare directs toward me. He holds the gaze, "You're okay with it, right?" He asks. Definitely, I'm okay with it, why would I not be? He's only seventeen. I can wait. Well, it's not like I want this in the first place. I nod.

I don't want to be here, I'm just doing it for my parents. My eyes betray me as they wander to Jihan.

Yeah, I'm just doing it for the sake of my parents.

"Come, let's eat, guys," Jia says. Going straight to my mom and pulling her up from the couch by her hand. She stood up gladly as they walk into the kitchen. Jihan stands there stuck for a minute before rushing to the kitchen as well.

They all came from the kitchen with pots and pans, and place them all on the dining table. "Come on," Jaewoon says with a hand gesture and a friendly smile. I nod politely.

We all settle down at the small yet comfortable table. Jihan sits beside me. I inspect the delicious-looking meals. I can't wait to have it in my mouth and taste it. It looks so good.

The moment I lay the food on my tongue a moan escaped from my mouth before I could hold it back. The room fills with laughter and my cheeks flush in embarrassment. I look beside me to find a very blushy Jihan ducking his head down to hide it, only if he knew, he did the worst job at hiding it.

"Oh, goodness! I never ate something as half delicious as this." I say, taking matters into my hand.

"Awe, thanks, honey..." Jia says with a bright smile. "Now that you gonna marry Jihan, you can have it all the time you come here, plus Jihan helped me to make this, he's a good cook too!" She adds proudly. I nod with an acknowledging laugh.

We all fell into silence after that, a comforting one. I always loved quiet moments, it helps to bond more and easily, at least for me.

The woods cracking in the fire have been heard from time to time. The snow started to fall. It's so peaceful until it's not. Until I feel Jihan squirm beside me in discomfort.

"Is this your natural hair color, Jihan?" It only takes these seven words from mom for Jihan to be uneasy.

My head snaps at him, and even though how uneasy he is, he holds mom's gaze. "Yes." He said.

"Really? Oh, that's wonderful. I never saw someone with this hair color." Mom confesses, fascinated, and goes back to chewing on the food.

Jihan sighs, kicking his food with the chopsticks. "And the eye color? You got the same eye colors as your hair, well, that's rare." Dad talks in, making Jihan freeze, his gaze cut to his parents before averting it to meet my dad's interrogating eyes.

Jihan offered dad a tight-lipped smile. "It's not a defect, right?" The moment dad said those words my head snaps so fast that I'm sure I heard my neck crack.

"Dad!" I say in a warning.

"What? I was just asking." He defend himself as if he didn't just ask the absurdest thing he could come up with.

"It's okay, but I don't know if I'm flawed, sir," Jihan whispers beside me. His eyes locked into dad in utter hurt. His head maintains low after the talk.

I see his mom's hand reaching under the table to take his hand in hers, caressing it comfortingly.

Can it be a defect?
