Chapter 14: CHAPTER 12

HAN JIHAN

"Let's go, then!" Joah says animatedly. I let him take my hands in his and guide me through the woods. Lake is at the far end of the enormous trees and overgrown bushes. It's really far that I've only been there once. And of course because of his wild ass basically dragging me there.

It was already late afternoon when I called Joah's home asking him to come over to mine. He showed up not so late after I slipped out of my back door and yelled "I will be in the meadow!" for mom to hear and jogs off down the hill when she yelled 'be back before sundown'.

I am kind of dreading all the way to the lake because I've always been a scaredy cat. Going to the lake always sounds scary to me that I had to turn Joah down every time he brought it up and ask me to go with him.

But as for now, I have no idea why I said okay.

A cool breeze hit my body and a shudder crack through my spine. I use my free hand which is not held by Joah to shield myself.

"Joah, it's too cold to be in the water." The words come out of my mouth as a whine.  I looked over at him when he didn't say a word. His gaze set ahead. "It will take time to be back, Jo!"

"Cut it out, my big baby. And fast if you don't want to be caught." He said, calm, blue eyes staring at me in a way of saying 'I'm done with you'. And tugs at my hand before speeding up.

As we stride through, trying to not get in the way of outgrown branches that stick out like knives, the lined-up trees come to an opening. A vast one with a lake spread around its chest. Green grass carpeted the ground. A tree stood just beside the lake and its branches are void of leaves. Frost stuck on the end of its branches.

My eyes travel all across the lake and still on the two men standing before the lake with clothes scattered at their feet. I couldn't make much of them as I am standing a good twenty feet away from the lake. They are already topless and move to fasten their pants. I flare my nose and sniff the air. My eyes widen as my heart thuds against my chest violently.

     Alphas!

We weren't supposed to be here.

"Bekel!" I feel like my eardrums are being hit by a board. A wince leaves my lips as I swirl my head to the side to face an overly enthusiastic Joah. Both Alphas twirl backward and glance at us. Hands falling by their sides.

"Mind telling me who's this Bekel, Kim?" I squint my eyes at him.

"Remember, I told you about this Alpha I came across when I headed to town? It's him." I watch as hearts form in his eyes— something that I'd rarely seen when he talks about some alpha.— as he stares ahead at Bekel. And it spikes my curiosity as I feel his scent spikes up beside me.

     Good.

     This is new.

A tall guy from the two waves his hand at us, and then motions to come closer.

"For how long can you survive this alpha of yours?" The smile that stretches his lips into a wide boxy grin vanishes when he turns his gaze at me.

"Forever, if it's possible!" He strains his words, determined. There it is, again, that same glint on his crystal blue orbs. He's taking my hands in his and running. Running toward the two barely clothed Alphas that I don't have any idea of. I feel fear replacing the blood flowing in my veins. My mind is jittery and my legs feel like fluid.

Joah is throwing his arms around an almost-naked Alpha who's holding his waist delicately. He presses his face into the chest of Bekel. This would be so scandalous in an outsider's eyes. An omega hugging an alpha who's only clad in his underwear.

     It's scary.

I see that same glint I saw in Joah's eyes a few minutes ago in Bakel's eyes as Joah pulls away and holds his gaze. Bakel levels his face with Joah's and inches closer. I cut my eyes off them, because I feel like a freak peeping into something I should have not seen. My eyes lock with the Alpha standing three feet away from us. That's when I register the other souls present at all. I was too into ogling the two lovers to realize that— This person, I've seen him before. . .

     Mian?

     Wait— Mian?

Ha Mian? Who asked me if he can court me at the start of this winter? I hadn't seen him since I turned him down that evening at the tavern.

     What is he doing here?

     "Who?"

"Huh?" I blink at Mian who's staring at me so intensely.

"What is 'who' doing here?" He asks, voice hoarse and low. My mouth is agape when I realize I have said those words out loud, not in my head. My face goes slack. I swallow and look away, not daring to utter a word.

"Jih," He motions to that tall alpha who waved at us a moment ago.

"Bekel, Alpha from the town." He said resting a hand on Bekel's bare chest.

     "Bey, this is Jihan,"

Joah said in a  way that said Bekel knew me, that he had mentioned me quite too many times to forget.

"Ah, I know you. Joah won't stop speaking of you." Bekel says with a soft smile as if he read my mind, or did I say that out loud too?

     "Oh. . ." I mumble shyly.

He lifts up a hand and runs it through his light brown hair, pushing it back from falling into his eyes. Bekel looks like a god. With his light brown eyes that held stars in them and the freckles scattered across his golden skin. I can't help but let my stubborn gaze wander down to the expanse of his tanned torso… Wow!

"And, yea, this is Mian, His friend." Joah's voice startles me out of my haze. I cut my eyes to him, then to Mian who had an amused smile plastered on his lips and eyebrows propped up on his forehead.

I offer him a nervous smile, and I am about to bow but a hand extends toward me, preventing me from doing that.

     "Mian." He says.

"Jihan." I hesitate at first but give my hand to him, pressing my lips together in a thin line. I expected him to shake it, maybe squeeze it. But never I had thought he would take my hand in his and lift it to his face and press a kiss on it.

     That was a never.

A gasp stubbornly slips past my sealed lips. He chuckles and lets go of my hand. I stare at him wide-eyed.

"Leave him alone, Mian. He's promised to someone else." Joah nudges him in his chest and looks over at me. Eyes strolling over my face.

Mian knows, he already knows I'm promised to someone else. I told him just so when he asked to know about the reason for my refusal to his courting.

I stare at Mian and he stares at me back.

     We stare at each other.

"Jih, come let's get in the water," Joah says with a wave of his hand and pulls his shirt over his head, tossing it above Bekel's discarded one. His hands are still on the waistband of his pants when he glances at me, and cocks an eyebrow, "Aren't you coming?"

     "Ah, yes."
