Chapter 55: Nostalgia

Wesley looked around, trying to make sense of their sudden change of location. "Where are we going?" he asked, feeling a little confused.

Carlos turned to him, his face serious. "We have to get some things. The situation is very dangerous now, and we have to leave here in a short time," he said, taking Wesley by the hand and leading him forward.

Wesley looked around, trying to orient himself. Suddenly, he recognized their surroundings. "Isn't this the way to where I live?" he exclaimed. "Ahead, behind the tram tracks, isn't that where I live?"

Carlos nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yes," he said, taking out a key and opening the door of a nearby house. "Take out the key, open the door of this house, and walk in with me," he said, leading Wesley inside.

Wesley's eyes widened as he took in his surroundings. He had never considered that his father, Carlos, had been living across from him all these years, separated only by a tram track!

Carlos led Wesley to the living room and settled him on the sofa. "Don't worry so much," he said, opening the refrigerator and taking out a few chocolates. "You have something to eat first."

Wesley eagerly gobbled up the chocolates, and Carlos went to get some slices of pizza, warming them up in the microwave. He knew very well that Wesley was in a precarious state, entering the state of assassin's bloodline one after another. He needed to add calories and stabilize his mood swings.

As Wesley continued to eat, Carlos looked around the room, unsure of what to do next. Although the plan had been executed perfectly, this part had not been detailed by Jack.

Suddenly, Wesley stopped eating and looked in one direction. "Is that... a photo of me?" he asked, pointing to some pictures on the table.

Carlos walked over and picked up the photos. "Yes," he said, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.

"These... some are from your school, and sent to me by my contacts. This one is from the time you was riding your new motorcycle, and this one, is from your highschool prom. You looked good in a suit..."

As Wesley sat across from Carlos, he couldn't help but notice the pile of photos in front of him. Despite the small number, each one seemed to hold a significant meaning to Carlos as he reminisced about the origins and the time they were taken.

Wesley listened intently, feeling a sense of nostalgia wash over him. Memories that had long been forgotten were suddenly brought back to life with every story Carlos told. As he wiped away a tear, Wesley apologized for getting emotional.

Carlos, feeling a little flustered, quickly reassured him that it was okay. "I just never thought that there were still people paying attention to me," Wesley admitted.

"I know how you feel," Carlos replied. "And I understand why you've always been by my side without ever meeting me."

Wesley nodded, his eyes still a little teary. "But for me, I've had enough of this stagnant life," he said, feeling a sense of frustration.

Carlos took a deep breath before responding, "Your mother, I promised her and myself that I would keep you safe and prevent you from stepping into this dangerous world."

"But now..." Wesley interjected. "The world is so unpredictable."

"You're right," Carlos agreed. "I used to think that keeping you away from this world would protect you. But I was naive. They have no bottom line."

"Who are they?" Wesley asked, trying to understand more about Carlos' past.

Carlos shook his head. "Let's not dwell on the past. What's important is the present, and I'm here to make sure you're safe."

Wesley nodded, feeling grateful for Carlos' presence in his life. Despite the danger, he knew that Carlos had his best interests at heart. As they continued to talk, Wesley couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and comfort in Carlos' company.

Suddenly, there was a rhythmic knock on the door, causing Wesley to jump in his seat.

"Boom, boom, boom!"

"Who is it?" Wesley whispered nervously, but Carlos' calm demeanor helped ease his fear.

"Don't worry, he's one of us," Carlos reassured him before walking over to the door.

Wesley watched in amazement as Carlos opened the door to reveled Jack, who had undergone a complete costume and facial transformation.

"I received your call and rushed over immediately," Jack said, his tone serious. "How is it, has your son been rescued?"

With a nod, Carlos pointed to Wesley, who was still trying to wrap his head around the sudden appearance of this new stranger.

"That's my son... Wesley," Carlos introduced.

"Hi, Wesley Gibson, nice to meet you," Jack greeted him with a friendly smile, as if they had never met under less-than-ideal circumstances before.

Carlos couldn't help but be impressed by Jack's acting skills. Despite not being a professional actor, he was able to seamlessly switch from pointing a gun at Wesley's head to smiling and introducing himself. It was like he had been trained by the best in the business.

As the three men sat down to discuss their next steps, Wesley couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and adventure. He had never imagined that he would be caught up in such a thrilling world, but with Carlos and Jack by his side, he felt safe and invigorated. Unaware that he had been fooled by Jack and Carlos. But even if he had find out about it in the future, he won't fuss about it as they have done that for his own good.
