Chapter 27: The raid [12]

Some of the monsters crawled on the walls, and it didn't even take them to reach the upper floors, as if they were some kind of giant insects.

Although most of the adventurers were listening to Solomon's speech on the lower floor, some of the most exceptional adventurers like the black-ranked ones were present on the second floor.

One of them was a woman wearing a distinct eastern dress known as Kimono. The woman had cat-like ears which made her stand out. She was one of the black adventures, and her name was Yukino Yamadeshiko.

Lucian was now observing her. He knew that she also had some hidden potential the moment he saw her inside that room when he visited the merchant. Her ability would be very useful in the future, once she managed to unlock its full potential, or so Lucian concluded, but for the time being, she was not very useful in battle.

To make up for that, however, she was surrounded by these individuals wearing masks and black clothes, who had their swords on their backs. They were known as ninjas.

"Yukino-sama!"

The question was, why was she a black-ranked adventurer? The answer was simple, she was the leader of a powerful organization. She had almost a thousand such extremely skilled men under her command.

Yukino had the charisma and the intellect needed to lead these people, creating her own organization which later specialized in rescue missions. But whatever the case, the guild couldn't ignore such an individual.

And it wasn't like the ability that her relic gave her was useless. It was extremely convenient in many ways, but it was just not very practical in a fight against monsters who could launch attacks from every angle and at a high speed.

"Protect the Boss!"

Seeing the monster who was rampaging, seeing its tentacle destroying the pillars that supported the ceiling and slaughtering the guild's staffs and the soldiers, the ninjas under Yukino acted and surrounded her.

Then, the ninjas launched a coordinated attack. Several of them came from the side, avoiding the monster's tentacle and distracting it.

Swoosh! Of course, the monster's tentacles were moving incredibly fast, and someone who wasn't at least at the level of these ninjas would be slaughtered instantly. But the ninjas deflected the tentacles and managed to cut them off.

Of course, a normal attack wouldn't work against these black monsters, and weapons, even ones made of Stellarium, would be useless if used normally. But there was something that could change the outcome of this battle, something that allowed humans to be powerful even if they didn't have relics.

But the monsters' attack pattern was extremely unpredictable because they could change the trajectory of their attack at the last minute. This was because their body didn't have any bones which could bend in every way possible.

"Crap-" One of the ninjas was still in mid-air when the monster suddenly changed the trajectory of its attack, even though the ninja had already avoided it.

The others saw this but they couldn't help them compared because a moment of distraction could cost their lives and the lives of the one that they had to protect at all costs. His death wouldn't be in vain.

They weren't afraid of death, but…

"Yukino-sama?"

…The ninja didn't get slaughtered. He suddenly appeared next to Yukino. This was her power. She could exchange the place of something she touched with something she saw. She continued to support the ninjas with this ability.

Lucian observed the ninjas carefully, looking at their refined movements and the energy emanating from them while they landed their attacks on the monsters.

It seemed like human instinct wasn't something to be underestimated, although their ability to think and their imagination was their greatest weapon.

But it was not only the Ninjas. He could also see that George and the other members of the Red Lily, who was currently protecting Solomon, Rezalia, and the others had also unlocked one of the abilities that every human had.

Lucian smiled a little. It seemed like he had underestimated humans too much, or he thought.

The neutral particles. This was humans' greatest tool. Combined with their imagination, the possibilities were endless.

Humans never needed wings. They didn't need lungs that could allow them to breathe underwater. They didn't need scales. And they never needed relics. Why? Because they were simply not needed.

Instead, there was a reason why humans were given the ability to think. But that possibility, that knowledge, was taken from them. The reason for their existence was taken from them.

However, after the appearance of monsters, humans instinctively adapted to the change, they adapted to survive, even if they were doing it subconsciously. They made use of the neutral particles to create a weapon. Humans called it Battle Aura.

This universe was made up of different particles. Fire particles, water particles, light particles, etc… There were millions of different kinds of such particles, each with its own reason for existing, and their own function. But the neutral particles were different. They were a pure form of energy that could change to any shape. The origins of all particles, of everything. Matter born from the Nothingness. The primordial particle.

The only question was, how to control this neutral particle?

Swoosh! Swoosh!

"NOO! STOOP! IT HURTS! FORGIVE ME!"

The monsters continued to destroy everything without any hint of stopping, screaming like they were in great pain. Their strength was one thing, but their toughness, their speed, and their unpredictable pattern of attacks made them extremely hard to handle, along with such a destabilizing scream.

But the ninjas still managed to hold against such a monster. How?

They wrapped themselves and their weapon with a layer of energy. Also, they used this energy to increase their physical strength. Some of them could even create elemental reactions without even needing a relic.

And, weapons made of Stellarium were great for storing energy, making it easier to refine and control the power released by battle aura.

But then again, it wasn't like everyone could do it. Only those who trained their body to their extreme, had great survival and battle instincts, or were extremely lucky could manage to use battle aura.

And it wasn't like everyone knew the existence of such a power to begin. And even if they did, most of the concept itself was something they couldn't understand.

However, rather than relying on the low-level relic, a battle aura was more convenient. High-level relics were rare, and that was why there were only a few black-ranked adventurers, however, that was also why there were strong and competent adventurers who didn't have relics.

Still, the number of monsters coming out of the portal continued to increase. At this rate, the monsters would begin to wreak havoc outside, causing a lot of casualties.
