Chapter 3: Deal

Demitri observed the house as he walked inside. It was large Indeed just like the outside made it out to look. The floor had brown polished wood on it as the walls were cream with brown highlights.

Contemporary ceiling lights gave the place a warm hue to it.

Nijel showed Demitri to his room where he freshened up and changed into a light white shirt and black pair of loose pants after which he made his way into Lord Maduras' study with Nijel's help.

"So what might be the cause of all the commotion happening in the town?" asked Demitri as he took a seat in a vacant couch in the room. "So far, I've received news from the constable that rogue creatures are attacking the town's people" replied Maduras.

"Mhh and that's my problem how?" asked Demitri with his elbows rested upon his laps as two of his fingers stretched out to touch his lips .

"We - well I , I thought that ..." Maduras halted his speech as he heard Demitri's chuckle. "I was pulling your leg" said Demitri and Maduras momentarily closed his eyes.

"So, do you have any more information? like on the dead bodies or so?" he asked and "Yes!" came Maduras' fast response. "Yes I remember earlier ans I was assessing the reports from the mortuary, I had noticed some things in common about the deaths. For one, they all died due to blood loss and secondly, they had these marks on their wrists seemingly like bites or something of the sort."

"So in simple terms, you are telling me that there are rogues running all aimlessly in your province and they haven't been stopped yet" Demitri said as the press of his fingers on his lips added pressure. Agitation a clear sign on his face and he sighed. "I was guaranteed of your excellence so I have full trust in you Lord Demitri" Maduras said knowing very well how this here lord loved flattery. "Well, I surely cant deny the fact that I am the best at what I do." said Demitri as he held a wide grin.

"Such a narcissist" said internally not willing to anger Demitri.

"Then," said Demitri pulling Maduras' attention back to him "What do I get I'm return?"he asked, his tone taking a turn for the more serious.

"Anything you want, you'll have it," Maduras said out in a more desperate and frustrated tone. "Well then," Demitri stated "Looks like we have ourselves a deal." he said with a smirk plastered upon his face and Maduras heaved a sigh of relief.

"How about dinner?" Maduras asked as he got up form his chair. "Great idea, I'm famished" Demitri said and both men exited the room and made their way to the dining. Maduras had a casserole placed infront of him and he ate while Demitri held a wine glass as he ate from his plate of caviar. The two headed to their separate bedrooms after the meal was done.

In another part of Edensburg, a girl a girl was seen running through the rain. "I'm here" she announced as she arrived home. "Finally, now hurry up and prepare the food, I'm starving," came the voice of an angry man. "Ah ye - yes father" she said as she ran towards the kitchen. 20 minutes later, she served the food on the table and she called everyone.

"Father, mother, Arinete, supper is served" she announced and all made their way into the room. "Well it's about time" said Arinete as she took her seat. The rest didn't say anything as they quietly ate their food.

"The food was a little bland don't you think so mother?" she complained as she wiped her mouth clean with the napkin. "Well, actually yes it was, next time.... make better food" the lady said and walked away. "And it would be best if you don't serve it so late" her father said as he stood at a distance and listened to the others complaints.

After both the mother and father left the girl stayed behind and did the dishes. "Tsk tsk tsk," came Arinet's annoying voice and she rolled her eyes. "Poor little thing aren't you Mabel?" she coaxed . " I mean you do all the work but yet you still dim to be appreciated." she said and all Mabel did was ignore all the tactics Arinete had to annoy her. "I'll make your life miserable, even more miserable than when your pathetic mother died." she said with clear hatred seeping out of every word she said after which she walked away.

Mabel did nothing but cry silently while eating her food in the kitchen and afterwards made her way to her room.

"Ah" she sighed as she lay on her bed. "All mother did was love those around her, I wonder why she had to leave me so soon" Mabel thought as she got up and sat on her window. She looked up at the beautiful and are

starry night sky. "Mother, if you can here me, I just want you to know how much I miss you" she said as little beads of tears fell from her eyes. "Please come and take me form here,"she as tears continued to flow down her eyes.

Silence now filled the room as all Mabel did was stare at the sky as if in a trance. She saw a shooting star and a small smile made its way to her lips as a sudden unknown joy filled her heart. She got up and changed into a lighter dress and afterwards blew out the lamp and had a peaceful sleep , a sleep she hasn't had in a long time.
