Chapter 3: A Deal is a Deal

As Winston finally catches up to Emilia, she glares at him silently. Winston knows that his sister is simply pouting because he shooed her away but he was in no mood to deal with her right now. They walked back to their house without a single word being exchanged. One fuming and the other with a face full of concern.

Emilia entered first and immediately ran to their father's study, most likely to complain about her brother. Winston sighed as he took his time to make his way over to the room.

"Dad! There was a strange wolf on our territory and Winston made me leave instead of letting me question it!" Emilia whined like a child. "Is this true Win?" Their father asked as he spotted his son entering.

"Yes, father." Winston responded curtly. "Good. You did well to protect your sister. Did anything else happen during your outing? Did the wolf explain why he was here?" He asked, a slight hint of anxiety in his voice.

"No. I made him leave so I could quickly return Emi to safety." The son responded. "It was a male? You didn't think to question him?" The older man growled with disapproval.

Emilia stepped between the males, trying to calm her father. "Dad, you're the one who told them to prioritize my safety over everything else. Winny was simply doing as you told him. Don't you think he did good by making the other wolf leave and promptly getting me back home?" She asked in a sweet and innocent tone.

"Very well. You may both leave." He grumbled. Emilia and Winston nodded their heads and turned to leave. "Sam, why are you in such a foul mood? It's not good for your wrinkles to frown like that." A feminine voice says playfully.

"Reina… An unknown male entered the territory while Em was out in the woods with Winston." Sam explains. The two children quickly run out of the room, knowing full well how their mother was about to react. "WHAT?! AND YOU LET HIM LIVE?!" Shouts Reina angrily.

Emilia heads towards the stairs to return to her room but Winston stops her. "Hey, I'm sorry for sending you away like that… but you know the rules, sis. Dad would probably have me killed if I had let you stay." Winston says with pleading eyes.

Emilia smiles threateningly as she replies, "oh ya? And since when have you ever listened to him about the rules? You only follow rules that involve me being left out of everything. Screw your apology, Winny." With that, she stomps up the stairs and into her room, leaving her brother speechless.

An hour later, a knock sounds at Emilia's door. She sniffs the air and grumbles under her breath, "I'm not accepting his apology, doesn't matter what he's brought for me." And then she answers the door. "What do you want?" She growls.

"Emi, I brought you something. But you can't have it until you say you forgive meee." Winston says with a wide grin on his face. "No thanks." She replies coldly as she begins shutting the door.

Winston uses his foot to block the door from shutting. "Now now, I'll have none of that. I mean, just look at what I've brought for you." He says sweetly as he reveals a bouquet of the peonies from their walk earlier.

Emilia sighs, eyes sparkling at the sight of the beautiful indigo flowers. "Fine, you win this time. But don't get cocky, flowers won't always win me over, brother." She says as she snatches the bouquet and searches her room for a suitable vase. Winston smirks victoriously, " Oh, I know but then there's also instruments, art supplies, and everything else you love."

"You know what I love more than anything else? It's unlike anything else in the whole world…but it's the one thing I don't have. Will you give it to me?" Emilia asks with a mischievous grin plastered on her face. "Hmm? What is it? I'll give you anything you want, little sis." Winston says, unaware that he's falling into a trap. "Freedom." She replies nonchalantly.

"Yeah, no. You have enough freedom as is and you're lucky you even have this much in the first place." He replies coldly and begins walking away. Emilia stops him from leaving as she grabs his arm. "Winny, just one night… You can even come with me if need be… just please, give me this one day to be normal?" She pleads with watery eyes.

Winston sighs, " One night. And Ced has to come with us too." Emilia's face falls at the mention of their oldest brother joining them. "Oh come on. Why Ced? That's basically like bringing dad along with us." She pouts and whines. "Ced or no deal." He says curtly. "Fine, Ced can come too." Emilia groans.

Emilia sighs heavily as Winston leaves the room. She thinks to herself about what she wants to do with the situation that's been given to her. 'With Ced joining us… this won't be very fun. But maybe… ' Her eyes sparkle as she gets an idea.

She grabs her phone and dials her boyfriend's number. He answers after one ring. "What's up love?" He asks groggily. "Oh? Did I wake you up? I'm sorry but I need your help on something, Jak." She says in a low voice, making sure nobody can eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Alright, what's going on? I'm up." Jak asks, matching her serious tone. Emilia clears her throat before speaking, "I got permission to go out for my birthday..but there's a condition." Jak's voice cheers up, "that's awesome babe, why do you sound so upset about it?"

Emilia sighs, "Winston and Ced are coming with us. Otherwise it's a no go. Got any solutions?" Jak goes silent for a moment before responding, "I got something up my sleeve for just this type of occasion. Don't worry about it. Just focus on having all the fun you can."

Emilia and Jak talk for a few moments before hanging up. Emilia, feeling much more relaxed after talking to her boyfriend, decides to take another shower before getting ready for her online classes. She grumbles as she remembers the day that she told her family that she wanted to attend university and they told her that she could only attend online courses.

Shaking her head, she jumps into the shower to wash her sweat and worries away. A few minutes later Emilia returns to her bedroom and moves over to her desk to set up her workstation. She opens her laptop, boots it up, and grabs a pen and some paper.
