Chapter 18: The Obstacles
On our way to the neighbor who has been taking care of them since our father fled's house, the car nearly knocked somebody down. We both got scared so we got down from the car quickly to check up on the person, only to find out it was my own brother, Dan. What could he be doing there by that time? He was by then ten years by then but looked grown. I ran to hug him while kneeling on my knees.
"why are you walking around by this time and where are your siblings?"
"Auntie Monica asked us to go home because she would be traveling in no time"
"So are they home?"
He nodded.
"And she didn't even inform me anything"
I remembered she couldn't have reached me because I was not having a phone.
"Sister, we have not eaten anything since morning and we are hungry too"
I felt really ashamed after hearing that but did
not want Max to notice but without a little bit knowledge about it, he had seen everything already.
"But why did you come here? Don't you know you could have hurt?"
"I told Clara I was coming to look for you"
"And she allowed you? To come all the way here alone and by this time of the night?"
I was loosing it at that very moment. What if Max had not been careful?
"No sister, she asked me not to come but I sneaked out of the house when Margret asked her to teach her a homework"
"How could you do that Dan? Was I the one that gave you this teaching? "
I said angrily.
"My princess, please stop scolding the poor boy, he already looks stranded...Dan, get inside the car and let's go"
We went back inside the car as well and he drove off. When they heard the honk of the car, they all ran outside to check. I saw a kind of disappointment on their face after thinking it was their father but on the other hand were so happy to see me.
"Who is he"
Clara whispered in my ears after they all ran to hug me.
"You will soon find out"
I smiled after saying that which Left Clara on suspense. I then entered the house with them. I had told Max to come along but he preferred to stay back in the car. All of a sudden, I just saw Clara rushed outside with a chair. She offered it to Max.
"Thanks"
He said and sat in the pouch.
"Please would you like to have anything?"
She asked submissively. Since when did Clara start acting nice towards strangers. I thought she would never change. I was happy for her.
"No thanks"
"What about water?"
"I have said it earlier that I'm fine and I don't want anything"
"Okay Incase you need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know"
"Sure"
"okay I'm going inside then"
She forced her hard ass to shake as she walked back inside. Max smiled and shook his head. She came to help me packed the things to the car, then we tidied up the place and locked the doors. When Jesset was entering the car, he accidentally hit me with the door and I fell on the floor.
"Sister please I'm really sorry it was not my intention"
"Don't worry I will be okay"
I said as I tried getting up but Max from nowhere came to grab me into his arms and gently placed me down on the seat. He took a tissue from the car and cleaned the blood on my forehead as he funned the wound. He raised my head by the chin and drew so closer to me that we could feel each other's breath. it so close. As he closed his eyes to take action, Clara cleared her throat. I quickly pushed his face away. Max had seen her reaction already in the side mirror. Even when she was looking at me with a sense of jealousy and envyness.
"Sister, are you hurt that much?... come on let me help you"
"Do not worry Clara, I am done with it and I believe she is fine"
Max intruded.
"Or my princess?"
"yes I'm fine now. Thanks Clara"
Max started the car and we went away. I was not shocked to see Clara behaved even more than I did after seeing the mansion. She could not believe that big mansion was for that young man over twenty years. She helped me sent the things to the other guests room where Max showed me. We arranged them and I went back into my room leaving her alone in the room.
*She decided to walk around to know the areas and the corners of the mansion and she was mesmerized by every single thing she saw. She came back to her self after she bumped into someone.*
"Sorry"
"I'm sorry too"
"By the way what's your name?"
He asked.
"I'm Clara. And you are...?"
"I'm Frank, Max's cousin"
They were done with the introduction when they saw Max and Clodeth walking hand in hand towards Max's room. Clara folded her fingers in a fist, forming a blow with a clenched teeth and she gave them a dreadful stare.
"Why? Are you jealous?"
Frank asked.
