Chapter 18: Helpful
Merry didn't sleep at all last night,she felt like he may need help.
Merry got up carefully and placed Max's hand with care.She then went downstairs.
"My lady..Do you want anything? You would've told if you need anything .", One servent asked Merry when she saw her.
"A-Actually I wanted to ask if all other knights alright those who got injured ? ",Merry asked with concern.
"Yes my lady, they are better now.." The servents replied and smiled.
"If you all don't mind, Can I use the kitchen for a moment?" Merry asked hesitantly.
"Do you need anything my lady?"
"N-No! Actually I wanted...." Merry tried to reply but interrupted before.
"Let the ladyship do what she wants.Please my lady,you don't have to ask for permission"
"Yes it's true my lady." they told Merry and welcomed her in the kitchen with a caring gesture.
"Be careful my lady."
"Thank you."
Merry started making a herbal medicine which she learnt from one of her maid when she got injured badly.She reminded of that remedy all of a sudden.
She even made a soup with a herb which was beneficial for muscle cramps.
'Hope this will work.Please God!' Merry prayed .
"Mrs Eliza, can you please ask the caretaker to apply this medicine on the injured members wounds...and give this soup to them.It would help in releif." Merry asked and handed the tray carrying all the medicine and bowls of soup for everyone.
"Oh my lady,you didn't have to do so much for us...It's really generous of you dear.I just go and give these to them." Eliza smiled and took the tray.
"Miss, is lord Maximilian alright?"Eliza asked with a serious and concerned look.
"Y-Yes,he is sleeping right now." Merry told.
"I go and ask for the doctor then."Eliza said.
"Th-Thank you" Merry thanked.
Merry took another tray carrying the medicine and soup.Merry thanked others and went up.
"Oh how sweet of her.."
"She is really kind hearted and caring."
Everyone present there felt touched by Merry's deed.
Merry got inside the room and kept the tray on the table beside the bed.
"M-Max! Max!" Merry tried to wake Max up carefully.
"Hmm...Merry?" Max opened his eyes .
"Don't m-move suddenly Max" Merry told him to get up slowly.
"P-Please have some soup th-then you can have the medicine." Merry said .
"But.....you didn't have to Merry... Alright " Max felt like she is troubling herself much but then he looked at her worried face so he didn't say anything else.
Merry gave soup to him.Max ate all of it.
"W-Was it too bitter?"Merry asked as she had used .
"I like bitter flavour" Max said while holding his laugh.Merry pouted like kid when she heard him saying something unbelievable.Max found her cute looking like that.
"Oh I wasn't joking.I really do like it." Max smiled.Merry carried the herbal medicine and went to the Max's back.
"What is it?" Max asked
"It's herbal medicine it will h-help in healing the injuries "Merry told.
"I see.." Max sat like an obedient child.
Merry applied the paste on the wound with lots of care and patience.
"It has a cooling effect.. it feels better Merry" Max said.
"Th-Thank Goodness" Merry felt really content when she heard him.Before it ,she was feeling a bit nervous about using this way.
"Did the doctor give it?" Max asked.
"Eh.. n-no actually I made it."
"Really!?" Max asked with surprise.
"Y-Yes,I learnt it from our house helper Sammy." Merry said it hesitantly.
"You are really different Merry.I am really lucky to have you.... Thank you dear." Max said it with all his heart and smiled while feeling thankful. Merry felt like something was being secure inside her soul. It was the first time she thought she was helpful .Even when she always been ready to help others still she thought of herself unhelpful.
After a while the doctor came inside the room and asked Max if he is fine or not and started checking if his spine did get hurt or not.
"You should have informed me earlier lord Maximilian.It would have been dangerous." Doctor told Max.
"Are others knights fine now?"Max asked the doctor
"Yes sir. Actually the pain was quite severe and whenever they move their body it gave a striking pain..Unfortunately, I didn't have the pain soothing ointment available right then..but thanks to the ladyship's help that now their injuries are not irritating anymore due to the natural medication." The doctor said it very proudly. It wasn't their fault as the kingdom of Pearls was situated in the middle of mountains . Being surrounded by high mountains, it made the trading facilities difficult.But because of Maximilian and his hard works this place has turned into a source of livelihood for all its millions people living here.
"It's really nice to hear.... Thank you dear." Max smiled while feeling like a proud husband. Merry blushed and she thought like she was praised so much.
"How are your wounds Lord? Dready asked Max.
"I am fine now." Max said.
"Ask the vendors to deliver the stocks by evening at any cost." Max ordered.
"Yes Commander! It must have been late due to the weather conditions." Dready informed.
"And find out who sent those bands of brigands anyhow."Max told Dready
"Ofcourse sir."
Max had to manage everything since he was a teenager.But now he got more things to handle in his kingdom than he already had been managing before.
'I know I was not able to meet the needs and expectations of my people all the time.i have to work harder now. But I am thankful that I got married to someone who is willing to help me out...With her support, I hope to do better.I will try.' Max thought to himself .
