Chapter 4: Chapter 3

Jacob opened his eyes to find himself lying on a hard surface. He sat up and looked around, taking in his surroundings for the first time.

He was in a small, empty concrete room with a single window that looked out onto a beautiful, alien landscape. The sky was a deep shade of purple, and the sun was setting on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the dull concrete apartment buildings neatly organized. Behind those he saw rolling hills and forests that stretched straight into the distance, nestled between endless mountains and an ocean.

To the east, Jacob could see the ocean stretching out as far as his eyes could see. The water was a deep blue, and the sun was just beginning to rise above the horizon, casting a golden purple glow over the waves. To the west, Jacob could see a range of mountains, their peaks covered in snow and their slopes blanketed in a thick layer of trees. The mountains seemed to go on forever, disappearing into the distance and fading into the clouds.

In the room's corner sat a small, silver metallic orb, hovering just off the ground. It was about the size of a baseball, and it pulsed with a faint, blue light.

"Welcome to New Eden, Jacob. I have decided upon the name Genesis." The orb, now apparently named Genesis, greeted him. Its voice changing from a robotic one to that of a feminine stereotypical AI.

Amazed by everything that was happening with the orb, Jacob stood up, still trying to process everything else that had occurred. "Where am I? What is this place?" he asked.

"You are on a Bernal sphere called New Eden, which has been specifically created for the Galactic Games," Genesis, the AI, explained.

"As the leader of one of the human nations, they have given you ownership of a set of technologies and resources to help your nation begin its development. They are stored in the central storehouse, an advanced structure gifted to each nation, designed to be expandable."

Jacob's mind raced as he tried to make sense of everything. The Galactic Games, New Eden, the other colonies... it was all so overwhelming. He felt a sense of fear and uncertainty wash over him, wondering if he had made the right choices and if he was prepared for what was to come.

"How do I use the blueprints?" Jacob asked, determined to get as much information as possible.

"The blueprints for various structures and technologies are stored in the central warehouse database for the colony, and also contained inside any AI core that is given access to the data,"

Genesis explained. "You can access them through the colony's interface and send them to the 3D printers for construction. The interface will also show you the designs and describe the actions needed by each worker to complete the construction by hand. You can even assign tasks to your workers through the interface. Simply select the blueprint you want to build and follow the instructions on the screen."

"It is up to you to determine the best course of action for your nation. However, there are four main pillars that you should focus on in order to succeed: science, society, military, and economy. Improving these areas will provide you with the resources and abilities needed to thrive on New Eden. GG credits can be earned from improving any of these fields, and can purchase resources and technologies."

Jacob nodded, trying to absorb as much information as possible. "And what about the other nations? How do I compete with them?"

"The other nations will be your rivals in the Galactic Games," Genesis explained. "Work to outmaneuver them and prove your worth in order to succeed. However, it is important to remember that the Galactic Games have no rules aside from domination. Using violence is often necessary to achieve these goals. It is up to you to decide how best to approach the competition."

Jacob took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He knew that the Galactic Games would be a hard journey, but he was determined to do whatever it took to protect his nation and emerge victorious. He couldn't shake the feeling of responsibility for the people here.

"So even human nations are likely to become hostile?" Jacob asked, walking over to touch the cold concrete wall.

"Yes, but keep in mind that this planet is home to various dangerous species, and the first event of the Galactic Games will probably involve surviving an attack from these aggressors. Allocate resources accordingly and be prepared for any potential threats. Intelligent or local," Genesis warned.

A cold sweat ran down Jacob's neck at the thought. He remembered seeing no walls separating them from the local flora and fauna.

"How can I access the points?" Jacob asked.

"Each individual can gain GG points, as well as the nation itself. As the leader of your nation, you have full control over the nation's GG points and can even influence what your citizens can purchase with them. For now, it might be best to keep access to the points open, but I can restrict anything that could harm the colony."

"Well, let's keep it open for now. Restrict anything that could kill everyone at once if purchased, though ... just in case. But let them see it in case there is a genuine reason it's needed."

"Yes, master,"

Jacob flinched at the response but continued.

"Can you show my our GG points and what I can buy with them?"

The Orb responded by creating a holographic screen which showed a website that looked like any other online shop. In the top corner, he saw 0 points.

"Huh, no beginner bonus then, eh..." muttered Jacob as he saw two options, resources and technology.

Tapping on resources, he saw most things being sold by the metric ton. 100 points for 1 ton of grain, 1000 points for 1 ton of copper. Every element and chemical he knew existed, plus many others were listed for sale. Even things like plutonium and helium 3.

After giving it a look and realizing the doors, this opens. He tapped the back arrow and then selected the technology.

It was organized at different levels. Level 2 and above had price tags on them, level 1 just had copies of the blueprints Jacob had purchased.

5 points per solar panel, 10 per battery, varying costs per filter specifications for the graphene filtration ranging from 1 to 65.

While, other technologies that he did not have the blueprints for had much larger price tags. 150000 points for the cheapest, 1 million for the priciest.

However, the level 0 technology was still very useful and comprised many free technologies. Some didn't exist on earth either. Personal weapons like guns for 10 points, to industrial 3d printers, which had different versions for different materials. From carbon chips to metal and polymers, there was a 3d printer for the product.

Jacob noticed that many of the things that were provided sped up the basic production and growth of societies. With these technologies alone, old earth could have entered a golden age.

With that, Genesis fell silent, leaving Jacob to contemplate his next move. He knew he had a lot of work to do if he hoped to thrive on New Eden, but he was determined to rise to the challenge and make the most of this opportunity.

First things first, he had to get people organized and figure out the immediate situation. Next was to head over and begin setting up the items provided for the first 3 blueprints to begin immediate production. After that, he needed to gauge the area and figure out the immediate threats to his people.

"Can you send everyone a message to meet? Also, could you design a quick questionnaire to figure out each person's aptitude and what they can do, include medical history." Jacob asked, already trying to use the AI proactively.

"Certainly, in front of your house is a center for the town. It will provide sufficient space for everyone to meet."

"Well, let's go meet our people then, shall we?" Jacob felt a burst of motivation as the orb floated to his shoulder. Feeling like the world was at his fingertips.

"After you, master."

"Don't call me master, please just say Sir or something. Calling me master feels weird."

"As you wish, Sir."

Opening the door, Jacob then took his first step outside onto New Eden. Genesis floating by his side.
