Chapter 26: Planning and progress

During the next three days, Finn found a balance between rest, relaxation, and training. He dedicated time to honing his newfound abilities, and at one point, he came close to transforming his shield into what resembled a short sword. However, his concentration wavered, and the form reverted back to that of a shield when he lost focus. It was a sign of progress, even though he hadn't fully mastered this new aspect of his power yet.

{Hey Finn how are you feeling?}The Spearmaster inquired as he rested not too far from Finn, who seemed to be in excellent condition after his days of training and recuperation. The progress Finn had made in harnessing his powers and recovering from his injuries was evident, and seemed ready to face the bird that still lay near the shelters entrance.

{Im mostly fine its a few pains around my chest} Finn responded, his determination evident as he concentrated intensely on the newly forming shield, attempting to mold it into the shape of a short sword once more. He succeeded briefly, but the transformation quickly faltered, and the shield reverted to its original form. The struggle to fully control his powers continued, but his perseverance was unwavering.

{Can you tell me why you don't just throw them extra shields out?} The Spearmaster inquired, observing Finn's repeated attempts and the growing pile of discarded shields that now occupied a significant portion of the room. The trials and errors were becoming more apparent, and the Spearmaster seemed curious about Finn's progress and what he hoped to do with his power.

{Well I think they will be useful in the fight against the mirros bird} Finn replied briefly, his focus resolutely returning to his training. This time, there was noticeable improvement as the intervals between his attempts and the necessity to discard failures grew longer. Progress was steadily being made, and Finn was determined to master this aspect of his abilities.

{How?} The Spearmaster inquired, his curiosity piqued as he approached the substantial pile of discarded shields. He attempted to extract one from the heap, successfully doing so, but struggled to hold it aloft due to its considerable weight.

{This is heavier than normal?}The Spearmaster made a mental note of the situation, and when he turned to Finn, he noticed the smirking expression on his face. It seemed Finn was eager to clarify and address the Spearmaster's confusion regarding the pile of discarded shields.

{I learned how to compress the shields to make them stronger} Finn explained, shedding light on his recent discoveries during his training. He had learned that he could compress his shield, increasing its strength but also making it proportionally heavier. This newfound ability had potential applications, but it came with its own set of challenges, as exemplified by the weight of the discarded shields.

Finn's explanation left the Spearmaster in a state of mild astonishment, his newfound ability hinting at significant potential. However, the more immediate and pressing question still lingered in the Spearmaster's mind, awaiting an answer or solution.

{How are we going to use these against the mirros vulture?} The Spearmaster inquired, prompting Finn to pause for a moment as his smirk wavered. He scratched his head, pondering the question before offering a simple response.

{I was thinking of throwing them at the mirros vulture proved it can tear through my shields} Finn replied, providing an example to illustrate his point. He walked over to the pile of shields, selecting one of the more recent ones, and then demonstrated by throwing it at a nearby wall. Upon impact, the wall deformed significantly, showcasing the increased weight and durability achieved through compression.

{Decent idea but how are we going to use them all?} The Spearmaster asked with a slightly pointed tone, gesturing towards the substantial pile of discarded shields that numbered in the dozens. The sheer quantity of failures raised a valid question about the practicality of finns idea.

{I just need like 6 of them the rest can get left here} Finn replied succinctly, choosing not to overcomplicate his explanation as he resumed his training.

*2 hours later*

After a prolonged period of training, Finn achieved a breakthrough. He was now able to maintain the short sword's form for about 20 minutes before it reverted back to a shield. This accomplishment filled him with happiness and a heightened sense of confidence, knowing that he was better prepared to confront the Miros Vulture with this newfound mastery of his abilities.
