Chapter 16: Twelve

It was all too tremendously commodious. The sound of her heart monitor beating, the ear-splitting alarms, the alarmingly cracking noise of the television, annoying rattling trolleys and unusually loud ringing phones.

It was all too much.

The stark smell of bleach was overwhelming. The piquant scent of hospital antiseptic, encroaching her nostrils was not of much help to her as the combination was weirdly antagonizing.

Phelicia scrunched her eyes at the bright light that was sipping through her closed eyelids, squinting in an attempt to sharpen the blurred images before her.

She felt so disenfranchised and ponderous. She could not move her hand, her head or her body.

She slowly started blinking, desperately trying to open her eyes to see what was around her.

Where was she?

As the blinding light slowly subsided, she could take a look around her surroundings.

Then it started to click in my head. She was in a hospital. But the funny thing is, she did not remember walking into a hospital and telling a nurse there was something wrong with her. Added on to that, she did not even remember where she was and what she did last night or what happened in the past few days. She could feel her mind working and tinkering, trying to fill in the holes, but nothing seems to be popping up.

She seriously was at the hospital.

The room was silent, apart from her heavy breathing and the beep beep sound often heared in hospitals that indicates a person is alive.

She glanced around and took in the deserted, white coloured schemed hospital bedroom. The room was pristine clean and gloomy. Typical hospital bed, IV and monitors beeping. The walls were a sickly white color and the linens were grayish. The place looked nothing like a room where a patient should be motivated to get better. If anything the murky room was making her even more nauseous.

How long have she been here?

She shut her eyes, trying to remember what had exactly happened. Then it all hits her with a bang. The memory of it all starts to occupy her thoughts.

"I did it" She thought.

"I have finally ridded myself from the cruel world. I jumped off and hung myself"

The cold air hitting her face as she plummeted towards the gravel. Some panicking, some remained still. She heard one lady scream. Crashed. The pain jolted throughout her body. It didn't hurt as much as the realisation that she did not succeed.

She was still alive.

Out of impulse, her hand travels to her face, pressing the throbbing area on her right temple. She flinched at the pain. She tried to get up. Once she stepped on the cold, white tiles, she instantly fell back on to the bed. Her body, engulfed in pain as if objecting her decision to stand up.

She lay there pathetically, waiting for the pain to wash away. Staring at the ceiling, illuminated with a white fluorescent light. Perhaps waiting for some help by the hospital staff. She still did not know how she got here, who took her here, how long she has been here.

She could not remember how she got here but one thing was for sure...she had to get out of this place. She knew for sure that she wanted out as soon as possible. Preferably right now. She pulled on the IV line and felt sharp pain. Seems that unplucking IV is only eyes in the movies…

She looked around yet again and see clear plastic tubes everywhere, one connecting to an oxygen tank, another connected to her pale bruised arm and smaller versions of those connecting to different tanks and tubes.

She woke up her senses and realise she did not know where she was. She looked around and saw nothing that seemed familiar to her.

A nurse walked in and decided to check on her, possibly to do a blood test. The nurse entered the room in blue scrubs, po-faced, serious, washing her hands at the sink like she was lost entirely to worrying thoughts. The woman seemed scary to Phelicia and there would not be a better time for her to disappear before she would polvarise her, or worse take her life. She did not know what she was doing her in the first place...where here was or what her fate will be.

Right then she was doubting if she was even dead...because a dead person would never wake up in a hospital. When she turned to Phelicia, Phelicia fully expected her to turn into a raging torturing beast and devour her till none of her bones remained.

But hell was she wrong. She did not expect the nurses face to be softened into a smile and her face which was looking like someone on a wicked mission turn into an angelic beauty.

"Oh! Good morning to you" The nurse greeted, her mouth widening into an unexpected smile.

"G..g..ood morning" Phelicia greeted with great difficulty, finding out her voice was very much hoarse.

"I rather advise you drink water my dear. Your voice sounds horrible" The nurse walked to Phelicia's bed stool and grabbed a jug and a glass, pouring the content of the jug into the glass.

"I am Maya" The nurse introduced herself before asking what had brought Phelicia to the hospital.

"I....I do not know how I got here Miss. I woke up to find myself in here" Maya listened while taking Phelicia's pulse, feeling her skin and pinching her nail beds of her fingers and toes.

"Oh! Is that so?"

"Yes"

"Do you remember anything before now?" Maya asked, eyeing Phelicia thoughtfully.

"I remember...." Phelicia suddenly turns ashen, lips almost blue. Her eyes were wide, looking right at the nurse, but not really at her.

Her brain stutters for a moment and her eyes take in more light than she expected, every part of her goes on pause while my thoughts catch up.

She remembers where she was before here.

She remembered waking up in a dark looking dungeon in a bag.

She remembered how dark the bag was and how excited she was of finally leaving this world.

She thought she was dead.

She remembered the voice...that manly voice that made her body shake in fear and tremble.

She remembered seeing that man...that devilishly ravishing male who I could kill her with her looks.

She remembered the look in his eyes when he held her neck.

Phelicia's hands suddenly goes up to her neck as she started shaking I'm fear.

He almost killed her.

Phelicia wanted to die so quick but not in the hands of that man.

She felt a feeling of pause while her brain makes a new connection, one that brings high emotion of either joy or sorrow.

But hers was neither joy, nor sorrow.

It was terror

Her brain finds herself unexpectedly on a platform, train approaching, realising that this time the destination is not a choice.

She had to leave.

Her breathing became more frantic as she looked up at the nurse who looked at her in amusement. She had to get out of here because she knew he brought her here.

That man would make her life a living nightmare.

"You know you do not have to tell me. I will find out from the Doctor. You seem terrified. Take a deep breath" The nurse said, putting her hands on Phelicia's.

Phelicia tried to breathe, bit the harder she tried, the more it felt like she was going to burst. Someone captured her, brought her to a dungeon like room and attempted to kill her.

What did he want from her?

She was a nobody...a disgrace to mother earth and creation. Why would that man want her?

Does he want her to be his slave?

Or worse.....sex slave?

"Miss?"

She had to calm down. She had to assure this nurse that she was fine so she would leave and run away before that terrible man would come again and strangle her. For one in her life, she did not want to die.

She wanted to run.

She wanted to disappear.

She wanted to hide.

Run away from death itself.

Her breathing calmed down and she filled heavily, trying her best to swallow the fear that had engulfed her whole.

She took the water the nurse gave and drank it hungrily. Finishing it's content, she smiled at the nurse and gave her the glass. The Nurse checked her drip as Phelicia laid down on the bed.

If she had to get out of this place, she had to make the nurse believe she was okay.

Phelicia closed her eyes and waited till the doors closed. As soon as it was closed, her eyes were opened. Painfully, she removed the drip and climbed out of the bed feeling dizzy.

But that would not stop her.

She looked around...she could not find her shoes.

Well she had to go without them then.

Opening the door, she looked sideways and then started walking , not knowing where she was going but as far away from that room.
