Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Giant's Blood

Power and authority. Wealth and money. Greed and lust. Honor and pride. Hatred and revenge. Many things drive people to do what they do. But there is only one thing that Jon truly wanted in the backwater world he found himself in.

Magic.

Before coming to the world of ice and and fire, Jon never had a dream or goal set in mind. He was just a young adult, unsure of his future and his desires. At times, he found himself comfortable with his simple life, while at the other times he hated himself for his mediocrity.

Unfortunately death came to take his life, but he found himself another opportunity. When his eyes finally closed and the breath from his chest left him, he opened his eyes and found himself in the arms of a midwife, in the form of Jon Snow, the bastard of Winterfell.

Jon Snow had been obsessed with magic since the day he was brought into this world. Ever since he learned the common tongue he asked questions of the ancient legends and old folklore that spoke of magical creatures and powerful wizards.

Throughout his 12 years at Winterfell Jon Snow dedicated most his of his time to learning. History, politics, war, medicine, social customs, religion, different forms of combat, and even various types of magic.

Blood magic was of course the one he was most knowledgeable of, and the only type of magic he was actually confident in doing. The others were purely theoretical but he did know quite a bit about them.

A hedge wizard had taught him the necessary steps for a few minor healing charms and a woods witch had taught him how to clean wounds with a healing prayer. Jon had met both of these mystical characters during his many trips to Winter Town, the town built around Winterfell.

In the end, he decided to try blood magic as he didn't trust the words of untrustworthy characters like hedge wizards and woods witches.

To Jon's great delight, the magic ritual he prepared had succeeded. His eyes were incredible. His eyesight was so clear and strong that standing from the highest tower of Winterfell he could look out and see trees from many kilometers away.

Almost immediately Jon set to testing the capabilities of his new eyes and checking what changes had been made to his body. The ritual Jon had chosen was a blood magic ritual complied of forbidden books he'd stolen from maester Luwin.

These types of magical experiments were strictly forbidden as they manipulated the human body and forever altered it. The eyes that were now in Jon's sockets were no longer his own eyes but the mixture of his eyes and a wolf's eyes. Hence their yellow color but still somewhat humanoid shape.

The way that the ritual worked was quite similar to the connection shared between skin changers and their companions. A strong bond would be formed between the animal in question and the human, connecting them into one body. The only difference was that skin changing was mental, while the ritual was physical.

Jon Snow had the blood of a wolf running through his veins. There were many rumors of the Stark bloodline. Tales thousands of years old told of Starks being hybrids of men and wolf. Now Jon truly did have the blood of a wolf, and the effect was astonishing.

After just a few days Jon's strength had grown tremendously. He went from having the strength of a developing teenager to that of a fully grown soldier. His hearing had gotten sharp to such a ridiculous degree that he could hear whispers in the halls of Winterfell from outside the building. His sense of smell had also gone beyond the limit of human achievement. Now he could detect the smell of blood entire kilometers away from where he stood.

But the most drastic change that happened to him was the development of his body. Over the course of just a week he grew seven inches taller to the height of 5 '10. Every day he showed for training all the guards would be continuously surprised by his increase in height and stunned even more by his inhumane strength.

It definitely led to some speculation of what had happened to Jon Snow that made him change so drastically. Jon Snow took full advantage of this and incited as much speculation as he could.

Many of the guards began to become suspicious of Lord Stark's reason for the change, and this suspicion spread to not only the people of Winterfell but also the people of Winter Town. In just a week rumors had spread about the bastard of Winterfell. They had already began to give him nicknames that they would chant whenever he walked by.

Giant's Blood.

The Direwolf.

Halfbreed.

As expected of the common folk. Once they saw someone they didn't understand, their thoughts went wild. People began to say that Jon was a product of a giant and Lord Stark. That he was a warg just like the ancient Starks that lived thousands of years ago.

Many of these rumors were heard by Ser Rodrik whenever he left the gates of Winterfell into Winter Town.

"Did you hear about the bastard of Winterfell? They say he's the same height as his father and he's only 12."

"Aye. I done seen the muthofucker myself. He was as ugly as a giant too. Shouda seen his face. Looking like a fucked up squash."

Ser Rodrik tried to drown out the chatter of the poor folk but Jon was practically the only thing they talked about. To these people, ridiculing the rich nobles was a major source of entertainment, and Jon had always been the weakest chain being a bastard.

"I'm afraid Lord Stark is going to be very upset. I'll have to report this to him." Ser Rodrik sighed, a deep scowl on his face. "Although Jon has certainly changed it isn't because he has giant's blood."

A small, dirty peasant child nearby looked up at Ser Rodrik as he paraded around the entrance atop his horse. She whispered to herself. "Why would Lord Stark care about Jon Snow?"
