Chapter 15: Heist in Germany 'The Nebra Sky Disc'
"Team Alpha, do you copy? What's the situation?"
"Hey, Jason. Do you think we are doing some kind of military roleplay? Speak normally." Sara got irritated.
"Come on, don't ruin the fun... Alright, jokes aside. What's your status?"
"We did two days of recon. Right now we are divided into two teams just as planned. We just received the guns which were brought through the sewers. Just waiting for your orders."
"Okay. You may begin. And remember, no killing and no matter the situation, don't use your powers."
"Alright."
After a while, there were sounds of gunshots at the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle. The people who were nearby the exits quickly left the museum while those inside were taken hostage by the group. The guards inside the museum were disarmed and tied down. Soon the SEK arrived at the scene. Because of the hostages they weren't able to do anything but negotiate.
"THIS IS THE LIEUTENANT OF THE SPEZIALEINSATZKOMMANDOS, WILBUR HARTMAN SPEAKING. FOR WHATEVER REASONS, YOU HAVE COMMITTED A SERIOUS CRIME BY TAKING THE CITIZENS HOSTAGE. GIVEN THE SITUATION AS THERE WEREN'T ANYONE INJURED, WE SUGGEST YOU SURRENDER PEACEFULLY. OTHERWISE WE WILL BE OBLIGATED TO USE FORCE."
The SEK began the negotiations. But no replies were heard from the museum. After a few hours, the legal forces decided to go in. But when they stepped into the perimeter of the museum, some warning shots were made from the museum. Because of that, they had to step back.
A day went by. The public also gathered outside the museum to witness the situation. The SEK made several attempts but there were still no replies from the attackers.
Just right before the second day of the siege, a message was heard from the speakers of the museum. The voice was modified to avoid finding any information about the attackers.
"THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO ARE OUTSIDE. WE MEAN NO HARM TO THE HOSTAGES WE HAVE TAKEN. THEY ARE JUST FOR INSURANCE. THEY WILL BE SAFELY RETURNED AFTER OUR JOB HERE IS DONE. BUT AS YOU CAN GUESS, THEY NEED FOOD AND WATER TO STAY ALIVE. WE WON'T BE TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITIES IF SOME OF THEM STARVE TO DEATH. SO WE SUGGEST YOU MAKE NECESSARY PREPARATIONS TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR THE HOSTAGES. DON'T WORRY. WE HAVE BROUGHT OUR OWN FOOD. SO WE WON'T BE TAKING ANY SHARE FROM THE FOOD SEND BY THE STATE."
As soon as the message was heard, the SEK tried to contact the attackers again. But just like before, there were no more replies.
Meanwhile inside the museum, Sara's team already swapped the Nebra Sky Disc with its replica.
"Was it really necessary to play 'cops and robbers'? We could have already returned with the item," said Sara.
"Come on. where's the fun in that? You and your team are also acting as a diversion for the other three. Just go with the original plan. It will be over tonight anyway."
"Alright, if you say so. But how's Racheal and her team doing?"
"Don't lose your focus. You should pay attention to the mission you are on. And I know you know why I sent Racheal with a separate team. You have to keep your professional and personal life separate."
"I know, I know." Sara turned off the communicator.
"Wrap up, boys. We are almost done here," said Sara to her team.
"Should we really not take anything with us?" One of them asked.
"Focus on the mission," said Sara to silence the rest of them.
At night, the SEK brought food for the hostages. As they were going to announce it, a huge explosion occurred from the four corners of the museum that left the crowd panicking. While the SEK sent their men to check the situation, another explosion occurred at the main entrance. The people who were taken hostage, started to come outside from the museum after that explosion. The intelligence team of the SEK suggested to focus on the other exits to see if the attackers were trying to escape through them. Another team was sent to search the people who just came out. But at that moment, several smoke bombs exploded among the crowd that cut off the visuals of the SEK forces and caused more panic among the crowd.
The inside team used that window of opportunity made by the team outside to escape from the scene quickly and got mixed with the panicked crowd. As the attackers were wearing masks inside the museum and the CCTVs were hacked before the heist, Sara's team blended in within the panicked crowd to avoid any further suspicions.
When the situation calmed down, no traces of the attackers were found. Even the hostages were unable to identify any of their captives as the attackers didn't even speak a single word in front of them.
The item which was the main objective of the heist was sent to the outside team right after the team came outside, who then brought it outside the observation zone.
"The item has been sent to the carrier, I copy, the item has been sent to the carrier," said Sara after turning on her earpiece.
"Now who's roleplaying?"
"Don't joke. You just prolonged a quick mission."
"Alright, return after the situation there calms down. If you guys try to leave soon after such a commotion, you will surely attract their attention."
"Okay, but what's the situation at Racheal's side?"
"They have retrieved the Babylonian Map. They are currently returning."
"Why are they returning so quickly while we have to stay here longer?"
"Well, their mission was different from yours. We aren't going to repeat the same strategy every time."
"You did it on purpose, didn't you?"
"So what if I did? It was necessary. Just like how you were asking about her, she was also asking about you. Like I said, at work, you can't bring in your personal matters. Try to learn that from this mission."
Sara didn't reply any further and took out her earpiece and broke it. When the crowd calmed down, they also left with the crowd. While the SEK continued their search to see whether the attackers stole any of the items from the museum, they didn't find any lead as everything was exactly as it was before the siege, just every glass containers over the items were broken.
