Chapter 3: Chapter3

#Chapter3

Madeline POV:

Madeline’s POV:

My night was completely ruined after I came back inside the house and went to my room. I couldn’t sleep for a second. Every time, I close my eyes his face appeared making me remember how astonished he looked when I told him what he would need to say to Laura. I shivered remembering how intensely he was staring at me last night like he was trying to solve the trickiest math equation.

I still couldn’t believe, how I almost confessed my feelings towards him, after being extremely conscious about keeping them inside my heart for so many years.

I was glad he didn’t realize that my words held some other meanings. The feelings that I let get surfaced last night was a mistake. I had been keeping them hidden and plan to keep them there always.

My alarm went off suddenly making me sat up on the bed. I spend the whole night thinking what if I had leaned closer and kissed his lips or what if he leaned closer and kissed me. I touched my lips and then removed my hands like they burned.

What the hell are you thinking, Madeline? I asked myself feeling angry for thinking stupid things.

I got up from the bed and went to the washroom to get ready for the school. I pulled an oversized baby blue sweatshirt with my black skinny jeans. I didn’t want to work on untangling my curly hair so I left them open and put the black beanie on my head to cover the mess.

Then I put my black boots on and checked my bag twice to make sure I had my assignment and notes in it.

Despite being rumored that I have rabies, AIDS, and what not it amazes me how I still managed to keep friends. Milly is a sweet little thing with black straight hair and pale white skin that always looks flawless. She is an Asian and moved here when she was a baby because of her father business. Her boyfriend Mac is my friend also. They transferred to my school when I was in the fifth grade. They’re the cutest couple in the whole school. I love them both because they are fun to be around and true friends.

I left my room with my bag slung over my shoulder and made my way down. I peeked outside through the lounge window to see Delia speeding away.

I guess you need to take a walk, Madeline. I said to myself.

After five minutes of walk, I was panting like a dog that ran miles to get the treat. I knew it was a weird example but I didn’t really care about that. I put my hands on my knees and took the deep breaths to calm myself.

I heard the honk from the behind and straighten to glare at the person who was honking like mad. I snapped my head and looked at the pink car. I groaned internally.

The female version of Satan was waving at me.

She slid down the window and looked at me from head to toe. She stared at me for like 30 seconds with her mouth shaped in big /"O/". Then she smiled at me sweetly showing me her pearly sharp canine.

/"Hi, Maddy. Do you want to ride with me?/" She asked me in her overly cheery voice.

I hate when people call me /"Maddy/". But it was like next to impossible for me to make everyone forget that silly name after all these years.

/"Um...If you don’t mind/" I said adjusting my bag on my shoulder.

/"No silly. Why would I mind? Get inside/" She said smiling and opening a door for me.

I got inside hurriedly and the warmth of her car engulfed me. My freezing hands and nose turned back to normal temperature.

/"So she left without you again,/" Laura said while driving.

I nodded my head.

/"You should’ve called, Brandon. He wouldn’t have minded giving you a ride to school. And you both live close/" She said with a sly smile playing on her face.

She knew why I couldn’t ask him to give me ride. It was her orders that I was following for all these years. She never wants me to ask him for a ride and I never did. But she still makes these snide remarks. She likes to make me realize how much power she holds on me.

Laura knew everything about me, just like Brandon. We all know each other all our life but still, we all held our own secret.

/"How was your vacation?/" I asked her glancing out from the window.

/"Maddy, I hardly call that vacation. My parents forced me to go because they wanted me to meet some old aunt who I have never met before. She was dying actually and just wanted to see me for no fucking reason/" She told me making a disgusting face.

I didn’t know what to tell her to realize that it was no way to talk about your dying aunt that wanted to see you.

We arrived at school, she parked the car beside Brandon’s car in parking lot, and we got out.

I went inside the school building hurriedly. I didn’t want to face him yet so I made an excuse of going to class early to submit my assignment and left Laura.

The classes went like a blur. I was sleepy as hell all the time and just wanted to close my eyes.

I shouldn’t have stayed all night. I thought.

When the launch break came, I went to the cafeteria and found Milly and Mac posing for a selfie. I rolled my eyes on their obsession of taking pictures.

I put my bag on the table and got their attention.

/"Wow, Missy. You scared us and ruined our best picture./" Milly said making me glare at her.

I slumped down on the seat across them still glaring at their amuse faces.

/"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed/". Mac said making Milly giggle.

/"Excuse me. Someone didn’t sleep at all last night./" I said putting my head on the table.

/"Oh, that explains your zombie look,/" Milly said and Mac snickered.

/"Mac, I want a burger. Go and get me one right now./" I said closing my eyes.

/"He’s my boyfriend, not yours that you’re ordering around. Go find yourself one/" She said playfully.

But her words stung somewhere in my heart making me grimace at the pain in my heart.

/"I think I should help this poor damsel in distress until her prince finds her,/" Mac said getting up to get me lunch.

/"Why didn’t you sleep last night? /". Milly asked me.

/"I was busy thinking. Brandon came to ask me why I didn’t come to see him play last night./" I replied in a flat tone.

Then we heard the clicking of the heels and I opened my eyes to find Laura and Brandon standing in front of our table staring at me and Milly.

The big smile on Laura’s face made me little uncomfortable. I moved my head up from the table and Laura screeched loudly in excitement.

/"Guess what? We’re officially together. He asked me to be his girlfriend. Now I can kiss him whenever and wherever I want/" She said it with a full-blown smile and then kissed Brandon in front of the whole cafeteria to prove her point.

I felt the bile rising in my throat to see them kissing in front of my eyes. It wasn’t like I was seeing them kissing the first time. But every time, I see them I feel like puking.

The cafeteria was blatantly staring at them with their mouth agape. I didn’t have in me to watch them make-out in front of me so I closed my eyes.

/"Aww, Maddy. You can open your virgin eyes now./" Laura said giggling.

I opened my eyes and started at Brandon and Laura. Laura had a smile on her face while Brandon looked little confused and uncomfortable.

I smiled despite falling apart from inside and said, /"Congratulations. You guys are made for each other./"

At my comment, Laura smiled again and replied, /"Awe. You’re so sweet, Maddy. Thanks by the way./"

I just nodded my head. My eyes caught Brandon staring at me intensely again, making me fidgeting in my seat.

What the hell? Why is he staring at me intensely again? I asked myself.

Mac appeared with the tray in his hand that had my burger and soda in it. He put my lunch in front of me and frowned.

/"Did I miss something?/"

/"Laura and Brandon are officially together. Girlfriend boyfriend you know/" Milly said with the small irritated smile.

/"Oh. Congrats both of you. Now only Madeline is single in our group/" He said.

/"We will find some guy for her/" Laura said with a small smirk.

She took the seat beside me and Brandon sat beside her. Mac and Milly were sitting opposite us.

/"Why aren’t you eating, Madeline? It’s getting cold/" Mac said pointing his finger at my burger.

Hesitantly, I took the bite and regretted it because I couldn’t swallow it now. The emotions that I was feeling were making it impossible for me to swallow.

/"We missed the class before lunch. Brandon took me to my favorite place where we had lunch then he gave me this long lovely speech and asked me to be his girlfriend/" Laura said smiling dreamily at Brandon who smiled at her.

I felt my heart clenching at her words but I kept my face straight.

/"Maddy, you don’t look good. Are you sick?/" Brandon said suddenly making everyone look at me.

/"Uh... No, I’m fine. I just stayed up last night preparing the assignment. Now I’m sleepy. That’s all/" I replied feeling little nervous.

/"If you want to go home I can take you,/" Brandon said eyes to me.

/"No. I don’t want to miss school. After the break, I have a test in history/" I told him.

Thanks to God no one in my group shared the classes with me so they didn’t know if I was lying or not.

/"Oh... But I’ll give you the ride home. Laura told me how Delia left without you in the morning/" Brandon said in his husky voice making me gulp.

/"Sorry, Brandon. Milly and I are going to her house to hang out/". I hurriedly said.

Milly didn’t say anything just nodded her head getting along with my lie.

/"We’ve brought some smoothies for you guys with us from the place we went for lunch. Go Brandon get them./" Laura said.

Brandon nodded his head and got up to get whatever they bought for us.

/"I need to go through some notes before a test so I am going to the class/" I realized it was a good time to escape so I made the lamest excuse to leave the game before Brandon would come.

I looked at the uneaten food and groaned. I hated wasting the food because I knew its importance so I stuffed it in my bag.

I picked my bag from the and hurriedly left the cafeteria.

I ran inside the bathroom and tears started to stream down from my eyes.

Shit! Shit! Why the hell am I crying? I asked myself furious rubbing my eyes.

I saw tears falling from my eyes in the mirror and realized how fragile I looked.

You shouldn’t cry, Madeline. You’re tough. I told myself.

After staying strong for so long, I looked like a broken girl again. I made myself tough and unbreakable from past experiences but my all hard work crumbled today. That one small thing broke me.

I promised myself nothing would break me again.

You wanted this little thing for yourself from so long. My brain remained me.

I wanted this thing for me. Yes, I wanted Brandon to be mine. But you can’t always have what you want. I reasoned with myself.

He loves Laura not me. She loves him in return. They look good with each other; two beautiful creatures. Who am I to break them apart? I’m their friend. And friend doesn’t hurt another friend. I said to myself.

Laura was always territorial. She claimed Brandon so long time ago. She owned his heart from the starting for which I never blamed her. I never even blamed Brandon for falling in love with her. It was not like he can choose who to fall for. I thought as tears rolled down.

He loves me as a friend. I should stay happy and appreciate it more. I mumbled.

I wiped my tears off.

You can do this Madeline. You can act happy for your friends because they are in love. Even if it breaks your heart you need to smile for them. I gave myself another speech.

I patted my back for stopping myself from crying again.

I still remembered my dad’s voice telling me how proud of he was on me. He always thought I was strong like my mother.

If my mom was alive what she would have told me to kill the boy and get on the trackback. I laughed thinking about her.

I wished that I could have her and dad again in my life. I wanted to go wherever they were at that moment. I didn’t care if they were above on the clouds or underground. I just wanted to meet them.

I missed my mother’s lap where I used to fall asleep after playing all day.

I missed my father’s hugs after he came back from office.

I missed sleeping between them after having a scary dream.

Oh God! I missed my parents so much.

My train of thought was broken when the bathroom door opened.

I turned around to find Milly standing there with the angry eyes.

I opened the tap and hurriedly splashed water on my face to get rid of the traces of tears. I turned to face her.

She looked at me with her scrutinizing gaze but didn’t ask anything and I was glad.

/"Let’s go. The class will be starting soon/" Milly said dragging me out from the bathroom.

/"Hello, Madeline. Did you miss me?/"

The voice behind me stopped me from walking, my legs turned frozen.

I contemplated between turning around or running far away.

I'll Not Let Him Hurt You Again
