Chapter 71: Setting Things In Motion

All that was left was a smoldering corpse. Silver flames engulfed the giant cyclops, withering it down into ash. The flames didn't wilt even when submerged beneath the ocean.

Sora could feel the small trace of divinity entering his body due to the silver flames. Polyphemus didn't have a large amount of it, but it was just enough to bring the sleepy man past the line. It was as if someone had flipped a light switch in a dark room. He could see new things.

Now that the battle was over, Darkstar finally stopped covering Wonder Woman's eyes. Her expression was covered in annoyance as she looked up at him. He only smiled back as if nothing was wrong. Only when she glanced at his eyes did her expression change.

"Your pupils have changed. Weren't the pupils blue and the iris black? It's all silver now." Diana commented. Darkstar only raised an eyebrow.

"Is that so? Interesting…"

"How long will you continue to hold me like this? In Hera's name. Is it really so fun taking advantage of me?"

"It really is fun, but can you even feel your limbs?"

"Barely. If I could truly move them, I'd have punched you through the wall."

"...I find that hard to believe." Sora quipped.

His hands shined with darklight as they interacted with her nerve endings. Diana's body immediately stretched out due to the feeling. A deep hum resonated from within her as she grew stiff. It felt good, but she wouldn't allow herself to act uncivilized.

"SSssssss." She hissed.

The laid back man only watched with a knowing smile. It took a few moments for the feeling to disappear. Only then did she open her eyes again.

"Can you feel them now?" He asked.

Diana tried again. To her surprise, her motor skills had returned. She immediately looked at him in shock.

"Is there no end to your abilities?"

"What do you mean? I barely have any abilities." He lied.

"Of course you don't."

"Why haven't you left my embrace yet? Weren't you going to punch me through a wall? You can move now, right?" His words made her pause.

"Darkstar…what are you looking for? What do you want from me?"

"...What do you mean?"

"We're both warriors. Cut from the same ilk. Let's not beat around the bush…I'm not looking for a relationship." She announced. Sora raised an eyebrow. She was being straight up with him.

"I'm also not looking for that. I have enough on my plate."

"Then why do this?"

"Why can't I enjoy the moment? As an admirer of beauty I think it's only natural that I do this."

"You admire my beauty?"

"Of course. You're like a painting that stepped out of its canvas." He hummed quietly.

Diana raised an eyebrow. A casual smile adorned her face. Women loved to hear such compliments. She couldn't help but wrap her arms around his neck.

"Then…"

Her lips covered his for a good ten seconds. It was a nice and full kiss. One that implied how smitten she truly was with him. This would repeat for a good amount of time. They didn't go any further though. Upon pulling back, she finally left his embrace and stood up.

"Take it as thanks for nursing me. You may have taken advantage, but I felt the healing properties each time. Victory is ours once more. Let's leave it at that."

Sora stood up with a sleepy smile. He was satisfied. A good makeout didn't compare to what he'd already enjoyed from her defined curves. Still, it meant that more rendezvous were possible in the future. The two clasped each other's forearms.

"As you wish. Victory is ours and we live to see another day."

The unconscious heroes finally began to wake up. Aquaman grabbed the Trident of Atlantis and made his exit with the unconscious Mera. Flash and Green Lantern quickly joined Sora and Diana on the roof.

Barry was starting to get a good grasp on Darkstar's personality, so he wouldn't be surprised if something had happened between him and Diana. Shazam and Cyborg were nowhere to be seen. Batman and Superman were the last to join the group.

"It's over…and once again, I was unconscious for the final moments." Superman mumbled. He seemed to be holding in a great deal of emotions.

"I'm assuming you finished it?" Batman questioned. Darkstar nodded.

"Indeed. There isn't much to say."

The dark knight only watched with suspicion before finally nodding. Without so much as a goodbye, he leapt off the building. The batjet caught him and flew off into the horizon.

Green Lantern was the next to leave. Flash seemed to be annoyed. It made Darkstar curious.

"Flash? What's up?"

"Ah…It's just…they always leave me with clean up duty."

Darkstar couldn't help but chuckle. With his chuckles being the only thing breaking the deafening silence, he vanished. Flash immediately accelerated to begin fixing the city. This left only Superman and Wonder Woman.

The kryptonian was still going through an emotional struggle, and it could be seen on his face. This was the first time Diana had seen him like this. Before she could speak, Superman gave her a stern look.

"What happened while the team was unconscious?"

"Well basically, the battle-"

"I'm not asking about the battle. I'm asking about you and Darkstar. What did he do? How did he act? What happened?"

Wonder Woman went on to explain his knight's evolution and the cyclops. She made sure to leave out the steamy parts. It wasn't his business. Superman didn't seem to be satisfied.

"Kal-El. Talk to me. What is the problem?" She asked.

"I've seen the way he looks down on the battlefield. It's like he doesn't want to be here. Like saving the world is a waste of time. This makes it hard to trust him."

"Don't you think you're being a bit too-"

"No!" He cut her off with a growl. "I told you to keep your distance. Did you?"

"................."

"I'm asking you a question. Did you keep your distance with him?"

Diana could feel a bit of anger rising from within. Who did this guy think he was? It wasn't up to him to decide her actions.

"What's wrong with you, Kal? You've never asked me such a question before. You're acting weird."

"Tch." The kryptonian clicked his tongue before taking off into the sky.

Wonder Woman shook her head in disbelief. She looked in his direction, watching as the clouds parted. Only then did she finally make her exit.

Meanwhile, Superman tapped on his wrist. Batman popped up as a hologram. Both of them were straight faced.

"Bruce. Let's speed up the plan. Have Martian Manhunter narrow down the suspects."

".....Hmm." Batman grunted.

The call ended. Bruce was still flying back to Gotham. He tapped a few buttons in the cockpit, sending a call to the Martian. A green skinned humanoid with red eyes answered.

"How can I help you, Batman?"

"Have you found his identity?"

"No, but there are currently ten possible matches. Some of them have unique life situations. Others are completely normal."

"Narrow it down to three. The Justice League will convene at the Watchtower soon. Have the list ready by then."

"Alright."
