Chapter 2: In The Beginning

Somewhere in the woods, in the middle of nowhere, laid a little cottage. It was late in the afternoon, almost in the evening.

The birds stood on the branches of the tall trees, getting ready to call it a day, when the loud screams of a woman in labor disrupted the serene forest, scaring away some birds.

It could be heard coming from the little cottage, which was embedded deep into the woods. The screams lasted a while. Then finally, it was replaced with that of a crying baby.

In the cottage laid a woman. She had just given birth to her first baby. The old woman pulled the baby out and carried it across the room to wash the blood of it. The woman laid back, breathing heavily.

She looked across the room, yearning for her baby. She couldn't hold back her tears as the delicate baby was placed on her. Her shivering hand slowly reached out to touch her baby.

"Beautiful, just like Mum." , She heard the old woman say.

She was right. Her baby looked so much like her. She must do all she can as a mother for this baby.

She sat up on the mat and handed the baby back to the old woman, who took it away to cut it's umbilical cord. Then she, the woman, decided to freshen up by taking a shower.

She returned from the bathroom to meet three missed calls on her phone. When she checked to see who the caller was, she discovered it was him.

She picked up the phone and took in a deep breath before calling him back. Her heart skipped a beat as she heard his voice on the other side.

"Adri, is that you? I have been trying to reach you for hours.", She heard his deep voice say.

"I'm sorry. I have been busy.", She told him calmly.

"Busy?! Busy with what?", He demanded.

"With your child.", She answered.

The line when silent for a few seconds. He seemed dumbfounded.

"When did you give birth?", He asked.

"Not too long ago.", She told him.

There was once again a brief silence. He held his breath as he hoped that she would not say what he did not want her to say.

"I will be coming to show you your baby.", She told him.

"What! Are you insane? You can't come here.", He told her, but it sounded more of a warning.

"We will see you in an hour time.", She told him and hunged up the phone.

When he realized that the line was dead, he got furious and threw his phone across the room. Why was she so stubborn? Did she have any idea how much trouble he would be in if anyone ever found out about her and that bastard child of hers?

His life, his business, his name, everything would collapse within the twinkle of an eye if anyone ever found out that she had been carrying his baby! No. He had to stop her. At all cost.

Just then, the door to his office pushed open. A woman walked in. She had forest green eyes. When she saw the worried expression on his face, she knew exactly what was bothering him.

"Is it her again?", She asked but he ignored her.

She walked over to him. "Roland, I have told you this so many times before. You can share your troubles with me. After all, we are family. Your worries are my worries.", She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck seductively.

But he knew better than to trust her. He pulled her arms off him. "Get out!", He roared."

"Uhm, no. I believe that it is you who has somewhere to be. I mean, don't you have an ill wife to take care of?", She asked him.

He looked like he had just remembered something, then headed for the door. Just before he turned the door knob, he gave her a clear instruction, "Don't do anything."

"You don't have to worry.", She assured him, just before he left.

When she was sure that he was gone, she walked up to his desk and picked up a photo of him that sat on it. She took the seat across his desk and began to speak to herself.

"You don't have to worry, Roland because I will get rid of anything and anyone if only it means that you will end up with me. I love you." And with that, she kissed the photo which she held in her hands.

She bit her lips as a smirk began to form on her face. Just then, the door pushed open. She knew exactly who it was, for she had seen his reflection in the photo frame. She placed the photo back in it's place then turned around.

"Antônio, just the guy I was looking for.", She said to him. "I need you to carry out and execution."

He looked into her eyes, trying to see what she was up to.
