Chapter 39: GODFATHER

I cross my arms, and with condescending eyes, I answer Nozel. "Why would I?" Though I am bloody, had cuts in some places, and look pathetic, I can still manifest my arrogance.

Nozel being royalty didn't falter. "You have to! You're our godfather, right?" Nozel who is only a year younger than me didn't feel any shame in calling me, godfather. He is just that desperate.

I wonder, why does Nozel feel strongly that I can help him? Did Acier put something inside his head? "Sure, if it's you that needs help. But clearly, you came here not for yourself, right? Tell me, how is Acier doing?" I poke Nozel with a leading question.

Nozel bites his lip, and with an angry glare, he accuses me. "It was because of you, aren't you? Mother has to suffer like that because you said things to her, aren't you? If mother. If mother chooses not to conceive another child, she wouldn't suffer like that."

Even in his teenage days, Nozel already had that weird braid of his that hangs on his forehead. I grab it. "You fucker, that was your youngest sibling." With one swift motion, I pull the braid.

Nozel's forehead bumps into the table that was separating the two of us. "A-ack! Damn it! Why did you do that?" Finding it annoying, Nozel draws his grimoire and is on the cusp of casting his magic.

I let go of the braid and immediately grabs his floating grimoire. Using his grimoire as a blunt object, I smash Nozel's head with it. "Nice! The grimoire of a royal born really is great! They are big and heavy! Here, have another one!"

Nozel cries in pain while on the receiving end of my attacks.

Truthfully, I was sweating in nervousness. I gulp at the thought of Nozel actually casting magic on me. Come on, I am clearly defenseless here. I was barely surviving in prison against the magic bullets and punching, and here you are, casting magic at me! "Take that, you braided idiot, how the hell did you even come here carrying a grimoire? That's illegal, right?"

Nozel raises his hand summoning a deadly amount of magic bullets. "It is because I am royalty, damn it!"

I use his grimoire as a pseudo shield, raising it and curling myself up in a corner, I defend myself. Damn, what is wrong with this teenage Nozel? Aren't you supposed to be the reticent type? To think the teenage Nozel is actually a feisty guy is baffling.

After the ridiculous hullabaloo, we return to our seats and continue our conversation.

I sigh in exasperation, that fight just a little while ago is a life-and-death battle I'd never forget. Fighting without a grimoire is immensely difficult. "Anyways, explain to me properly so that I can understand."

Nozel rubs his braid while pondering how he should answer me. "Hmmm… It will be difficult to explain. Just a mention of it will put you, me, and everyone at a disadvantage. Just know that it is related to a curse."

"Ok," I nod at Nozel. "I know."

Nozel frowns at my confident answer. And then, he had a look of enlightenment. "Mother told me something about you. Something about knowing the future?"

I didn't answer him. But my silence is an answer enough. It looks like Acier didn't dismiss my words back then to be a trifling matter. That's understandable, especially with Acier, the victim in question, who knows her body more than anyone else.

Nozel without further beating around the bush bows his head to me. "Please, help me."

I'd love to, but that would be voluntarily ruining the original story. I am a singularity, an existence that can walk paths divergent from fate. So I know, if I want to, I can save Acier Silva from her inevitable demise.

Saving a person's life is the right thing to do. I can tell that myself over and over again, but my decision won't change.

That is why in the end, I choose to be selfish. "I cannot." I lie to Nozel without any blemish on my face. Not even a crease in my forehead, and not even an ounce of guilt.

Acier Silva will die. That is the fate of the character 'Acier Silva' in the Black Clover anime.

With a poker face, I confess to Nozel what will happen in the future. "Acier Silva will die on a curse, in exchange, her children will gain resolve. You see, pain is a great motivator."

Nozel's anger flares up once more. He grabs me by my collar. With pliable steel tendrils hovering around me, I feel Nozel's naked killing intent. "One more word and you are dead."

Try me. I tell him with my unyielding set of eyes, I glare at him back with strength. Acting on my intent, I proceed with my confession. "Pain would make you feel numb. From a bright youth, you'd become a boring reticent bastard who is actually a closed-door sis-con."

I smirk at him. "You'd become so afraid of losing your youngest sister, you'll become cold to her. If you are thinking I am telling you the future, then you got it wrong. I am dictating the future to you!"

I push Nozel's hands away freeing his hands from my collar. I comfortably seat in my chair, and with an arrogant scoff, I ridicule his high-handedness. "What's up? I thought you'd kill me or something if I speak one more word?"

Nozel takes deep breaths. After calming himself, Nozel withdraws his magic. "Because mother wanted you to be our godfather, that doesn't mean you are my godfather. Clearly, House Silva is too much for you, I hope not to see you again, goodbye."

Leaving my sight, I hear Nozel whispering to himself. "I will protect mom."

Leaving me with his oh-so-mighty words, I close my eyes and push my Ki sensing through the roof. "I knew it, there are no guards in the area, huh? I can only assume that Nozel purposefully made this setup so that he can talk to me with no one hearing our conversation…"

Good, I can take advantage of this.

After Nozel's presence vanishes in my Ki sense's range, I immediately leave my seat and commence my jailbreak. "That Nozel guy really is pricking my conscience. I should at least do something, I guess."

I crack my neck, relaxing my nerves a bit. "I will definitely make that bastard call me godfather."
