Chapter 7: Making A Deal
Part 1, Ethan's Pov
Today again, we had our breakfast after the morning class and then came to attend the Alchemy class...
Luna decided to have breakfast with me and not alone, and it was she who insisted that we eat together. This led me to suspect that she was either avoiding eating alone or maybe it was a part of her plan for whatever she wanted to achieve.
We entered the alchemy class and Luna decided to stand behind the same table that I use. One table had enough space for two students and I felt happy about being able to stay with Luna.
" Alright, I believe everyone had settled down so let's begin today's class."
Anthony Almandine, who was our basic alchemy teacher spoke up. The classes up until today had only been theoretical, from today onwards he was going to start practical lessons which meant that we were finally going to learn alchemy.
Unlike other branches of magic, Alchemy doesn't require anyone to use magic until grade 3, from grade 4 and grade 5, one needs to use magic to create miraculous potions.
There were not many students in this class and it was in a completely separate and small facility which was entirely dedicated to the branch of alchemy. The botanical corridor is where it starts and ends where the forest behind the academy starts.
"This is called an extractor...a special magic tool, I won't waste my telling you how it works since we have already explained that in our very first theory class, those who were not present at that time can ask their fellow students... just follow what your partner is doing."
He showed a metallic cube that was transparent over which several runes were inscribed. I saw one of those tools on my desk as well...In my previous life, I wasn't interested in alchemy at all so I am a novice like anyone else.
I picked up the cube to analyse but didn't understand how to use it...Luna pocked on my shoulder from the side to get my attention to show me how to use it.
She dropped the cube into a flask and it started absorbing something the red substance from the liquid.
"We use it to extract impurities from water?..and if you break it like eggs you can take out those impurities." She explained.
" Break it, do we have to break it every time, and what happens if there is something we don't want to extract...I mean where more than one substance is mixed into the water."
" You can check my notes after we are done with this class...I think we should focus on doing this. You can ask me if you face any problems in using any of the tools...make sure to listen to the professor as well."
'Stupid me...' I forgot we were in the middle of the class.
Thanks to her I was able to perform well in class today and I was happy since we were making progress as good friends...I don't know why but whenever I am with Luna, I feel like life isn't that cruel...That there are kind people in this world whose actions are genuine.
The professor came to check the final results that every student had produced and eventually stopped near our table.
" Luna and Ethan, what an odd combination?" He commented and then started to check the potion mixes that we had.
Mine was a different colour than luna, but she said that it was okay so I left it like that.
"Did you make it yourself?" He asked.
" No sir...My friend, she helped me." I answered.
" She is your friend? I guess the rumours were true...I wonder though if it will work out between you two but you have my support."
A teacher taking interest in a student's personal life and even commenting on it personally was not ideal. I was offended by it but kept my emotions in check but Luna shot back...
" Professor, is that your assessment of his work? Act like a teacher and don't meddle in a student's personal life...That's best for you and best for the students as well."
Professor Almandine's expression turned into shock as he looked at Luna who spoke loud enough for everyone to hear...It started a lot of gossip among the students and Almandine didn't like it as his expression changed into annoyance.
" Luna, you are just a commoner, shouldn't you watch your mouth? You know your position in this academy is very unstable." He spoke, "Do you think the academy will not take any action if I just tell them that your behaviour is inappropriate?"
This guy is also one of the biased people who are not happy with commoners learning in this academy...I didn't know about this in my previous life.
" Isn't she right though?..and as far as status goes, I, who is a pure-blooded noble is much higher in standing compared to you, so about your comments...I can also report them as inappropriate." He spoke, "And, the academy has ways to check the authenticity of my claims."
"..." The professor fell silent and after clicking his tongue he left.
"He didn't even appraise it!" Luna spoke in a frustrated tone.
"You are very brave."
I couldn't help but tell her how cool she was, she was someone who had talent and she also knew how to stand up for herself against the prejudice of people...It also allowed me to act a little brave, if I had stayed silent then there was no meaning to our friendship.

Part 2
The classes in the academy start in the morning and end before sunset...with such a busy schedule, students utilise thier time in the evening to socialise with others, exercise, or relax however they wish.
I started to run laps in the academy ground during this time to increase my stamina. In my previous life, more than my mana I had to rely on my physical capabilities and weapons. I wasn't an expert in using a particular weapon, for me, anything worked since I never mastered any of them.
However, this time I have decided to find myself a master and learn from him/her after I leave my family and graduate from this academy. Until then I need to build myself strong enough to pass thier trials.
Learning martial arts and using weapons were forbidden by the Augustine family, and this became even more important under the rule of the current patriarch.
I was now glad that I didn't regress to the time when I was still in that mansion. After suffering what happened to me in my previous life, if I had returned to that suffocating environment then I would not have been able to remain sane.
After finishing twenty laps on the ground, I was warmed up and went straight toward the gym.
However just as I started walking I spotted Davis covered in bruises. It wasn't new that he fought with someone but with whom and for what reason?
"What happened?" I asked as soon as I came closer to him.
" I dealt with it...no problem." He replied to me.
" Tell me!" Unintentionally I shouted which made Davis flinch in surprise. I felt angered seeing my friend beaten up like this and wanted to find out how that happened.
" I got into a fight with Janice's boyfriend...It's nothing, maybe he didn't like the fact that I was getting too chummy with Janice." He answered.
" Don't mix lies...Why did you fight? Tell me the real reason why that guy dared to hit you!" I asked.
"...*Sigh* Don't mind it, I returned every hit so let it end there. Instead, let me tell you what I found about that girl, you wanted to know if something happened to her, right?"
He tried to change the topic, but I knew Davis only acts like this when it's not his fault or when he doesn't want others to get involved. Something happened and I have to make sure that it never happens again.
" Davis, I will deal with that guy and once I am done with him, you will tell me what happened to Luna." I declared.
