Chapter 118: Making Preparations

Kita was astonished at what he heard.

Never in a million years would he have thought that Elena of all people could've convinced him to join his crew.

Kita asked to confirm it again.

"Are you sure? I mean, you're welcome by all means. But do you really want to give up your military work and go on this crazy adventure with me?" Kita asked.

York stood straight at his questioning. He looked at Elena before looking Kita straight in the eyes.

Kita could feel that he had resolved himself. The guy was ready to leave his military job behind.

But why?

That was the question Kita couldn't answer. Nor could he guess.

"Well, yeah man. Who knows what you'll get yourself into if I leave you alone. For better or worse. You're stuck with me!" York said as he gave a huge grin showing most of his teethes.

Kita didn't feel good about this. Although he didn't doubt his motivations for joining his crew, But what could have Elena said to him that had prompted him to change his mind?

Elena of all people!

The same women who had irked York over and over so many times in the past. The women York probably hated the most. Or at least pretended to.

No matter how much Kita racked up his brain. He couldn't wrap his head around the situation. It just didn't made sense.

He wanted to ask, But seeing that Elena hadn't told him the thing in front of him, none of them would tell him now. So there was no point in asking.

So he stopped thinking about it.

If York wanted to join him, He'd have him. He couldn't expect for a better researcher for his team.

So Kita put forward his hand. Saying.

"Well, If you want to come along, You're more than welcome! I'd love to have you onboard!" Kita said.

"Sigh... What's with the handshake? Don't think you're my boss just cause I work under you! Put that away." York said as he went in for a hug.

Kita didn't refuse. He embraced his long time friend and colleague.

This person was probably one his most important persons in the galaxy now that he had lost everyone else.

While hugging Kita, York said in a low tone.

"Don't worry bud. I'm here for you."

To which Kita replied.

"Go to have you bud."

After that they both chatted with Elena a bit more before leaving.

York said goodbye to Kita as it was already getting late and York needed to attend a meeting.

Now that he had decided to join Kita, he had lots of things to do.

So Kita didn't hold him back.

After saying goodbye to York, It was almost night.

Kita headed over to the Lab where he performed some research related tasks before working on preparing the Lab for the equipment it was gonna receive.

He had gotten a notification earlier that the equipment that Kita ordered was gonna be delivered tomorrow.

Some of them were kinda big and would create a chaos if Kita unpacked them without making proper preparations for them.

He needed to plan out the layout of which equipment will go where and how to power them all, he should probably give Hugo a call to see if he can quickly manage something that will power these power-hungry machines.

So he spent the rest of the day planning the future layout of the Lab and talking with Hugo about what could be done about the planned upgrade about the Lab.

Surprisingly, another issue had arisen in the form of power deficiency.

After Hugo how much energy draw was expected, he squirmed his face. He did some calculations before saying that the current generators would also need some upgrades if this much energy was to be delivered.

But Kita had already thought of it and had purchased a separate generator that would be only powering the lab equipment. He didn't want to put additional strain on the already strained power transmission of the system and wanted to lay down a set of new lines that would be used to power the new equipment.

So he worked with Hugo to plan out a design for the power lines. After finalizing the designs, Hugo let him know that his team would start working on this after they were done with the engineering bay upgrades. Which should finish within a couple of days.

After finishing up his work for the day, he headed over to His room.

After entering his room, he took off his comm and set it aside on his bedside table.

After giving Noir some food on his feeding bowl, He headed to the washroom.

He stripped down as he went in for a shower.

The shower area was a transparent enclosure made of advanced glass-like material. Kita walked up to it, and as he approached, sensors detected his presence and activated the shower controls. Soft, ambient lighting filled the space, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

Pressing his hand against a wall-mounted touchpad, Kita initiated a sequence of events. The transparent enclosure instantly became opaque, providing him with privacy. The wall panels shimmered to life, displaying a variety of showering options.

Kita chose a warm, soothing water temperature and a refreshing citrus-scented shower gel. With a touch of the touchpad, the showerhead emerged from the ceiling, accompanied by a gentle mist of steam. The water cascaded down from multiple nozzles, creating a rain-like effect.

As Kita stepped under the invigorating stream, he felt a warm sensation envelop his body. The water pressure adjusted automatically, adapting to his preferences. Tiny, programmable nozzles scattered throughout the showerhead released tiny, massaging jets that gently worked on his tense muscles.

After the refreshing shower, Kita stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist.

He headed over to his wardrobe where he put on a comfortable dress fit for sleeping. As he looked himself in the mirror, his focus drifted on the blue necklace around his neck.

One of his hands automatically went to caress it a bit.

This was perhaps his most precious treasure right now. He wanted to take it to his grave.

After he went to his bed he started to play some videos of Helen.

Although he didn't have much video footage of times they had spent together, what little he did have was really precious to him.

As he lay on the bed, the projection in front of him started to show Helen walking in a park and Him recording from behind.

Helen was wearing a White dress and looked ethereal.

Noir jumped on the bed as he settled down beside Kita.

Kita petted him a bit as he slowly fell into a deep slumber while remembering his beloved one. The love of his life.
