Chapter 18: Ceremonial Mating

She had fought many battles in her life, killing evil humans, rogues, undead, and monsters, but she had never been this terrified. They were led into a four-foster canopy bed. Did they put something into her drinks or food that she drank and ate because the king's smell became intoxicating?

Lilet surprised her from her silence by explaining that what she was experiencing was the result of the mate's bond. From the scent to the touch, this strong bond was more powerful and intense than the average couple.

The queen cannot touch her because she is now the king's mate. The well being of the king will depend on the mate. Wolves and humans will always place the mate above the queen because of the connection by which they understood fully. The queen was just a ceremonial woman of the king. The consummation of their mating is sacred to them and it will give her more power and influence than the queen.
