Chapter 30: The Wooden PLanks!

The rest of the work became very dirty and everyone except John and Lucas went away to do other work.

With nose stiffening from the brain matter. The first thing John did was to dig a hole and throw that pulpy juice in it. He closed it and worked with Lucas to take out all the nails of the Kobold.

From a closer look, it was observed that the Kobold's claws were about two inches in length and had great sharpness. Lucas who at first checked the sharpness of those claws later regretted it when he had a small hole punctured at the tip of his index finger.

As they were hard to pull, they first had to cut the hard skin around and take them out one by one. When the job was done, Lucas appraised the nails only to get another texts to get present in front of his eyes.

Kobold's claws

Common

A common grade claw that was once attached to the hand of a ferocious Kobold. The claw is highly sharp from the tip and can be used in any kind of production with proper information.

"It was good that we got them, Uncle John." Lucas said while asking for him to appraise it too and continued, " We will just hoard it until further use comes up."

"Sounds about right... and let's just drop the idea of getting the teeth of this thing, we don't have proper tools right now," John said with an awkward chuckle.

He was right, even getting the nails was a taxing job and took around an hour to get them. And it was an hour wasted as these nails were going to just stay in the shelter until they know how to use them.

-

Since then, 2 days passed...

At the start, Everyone started coming up with a plan to get the planks and John vouched in with the knowledge. But it was still a bit complicated as they didn't know what size the shelter needed or from which tree- the big ones or the small ones would suffice or not.

At last, they could only do some trial and error. John with the help of his boys cut down a small tree and with the triangular wooden tool he made, he started making the planks which was very easy.

All they had to do was use the triangular wooden too which were apparently called wedges that would go inside the center of the bark of the tree and after cracking it, the wedge would stay inside at the start where the same process would be carried on to the other end and the middle. And after that, John had to just keep hammering the wedges inside until the crack widened and the tree split into two.

The inside of the tree's trunk which was just cut into two was also very uneven but John didn't worry about it and went on to do it to the two pieces until the circular end of the tree was on the ground as scrap and there were two rectangular uneven planks in John's hands.

At last, John went inside the shelter and told Lucas to check, and after a disappointing discussion, they came to know that it was still zero in the upgrades.

Everyone became half-hearted when they saw the hard work John did go to waste but John did not falter. He was not done and he started using the wedges and the big thick bark he was using as a hammer to even out the plank.

After a little more time, twenty minutes give or take, the plank was ready and the final moment had come once again. Yet this time, when Lucas checked, his eyes bulged and a grin formed on his face when he gave a nod to John who did not have much of a reaction but inwardly, he was dancing in the most goofy way possible. He was truly happy because if this had still not worked, then all he did was for naught and they would have been stuck on how to make the planks again.

The days went on peacefully with nothing to stop them from advancing.

One can say that there was no path and they were just doing what they thought should be completed. But the days were very long and if no work was done, then everyone's mind always went to a dark place after overthinking things.

In these two days, everyone had completed a lot of work. When 90 planks were needed, they had already made 50 of the planks and all 89 of fiber ropes at the end of day two.

Everyone felt accomplished and two days had been cut from the 10 days of phase 1 which made everyone a bit relieved too.

Only 4 days and some hours were left until the phase was over and Lucas was both excited and frightened at the same time.

There was also a small problem that the adults of the group were on various medications when they were in the civilizational and their bodies had become dependent on it.

John had a problem of High Blood Pressure due to a lot of stress from raising his family well and Ella had stage 1 Osteoporosis with pre-diabetes.

Lucas didn't know if everyone's changing bodies by leveling would fix these problems on their own too. But it was all just a problem for the future.

Ella had surprisingly not felt any pain in her lower back even when she was not on medication for six whole days.

The group continued their work, focusing on completing the remaining tasks for the Shelter upgrade. They pushed themselves to make progress, driven by the sense of accomplishment they felt when they saw tangible results.

The only thing that was left on a large scale was the mana core of common quality. John had made a small plan as to how they would get it but he had to use his 'unique' knowledge that no one cared for on Earth.
