Chapter 1: Good Morning Night City

"Rise and shine, soldier"

Shag woke with a startle, sitting in a cramped van with about a dozen other guys, all sporting patriotic clothing.

"You'd be wise not to fall asleep on the job, unless you ain't planning to wake up" said a man sitting across from him, wearing a bandana and holding a piece.

Shag was slowly gaining a recollection of what was happening. He joined 6th Street a while ago, they promised to supply Shag with MedTac in exchange for his services, they're currently on Valentinos turf, ready to serve some 'Patriotic Justice' as their captain calls it.

"Ready your weapons!! We're sending these thugs back to their Santa whatever!!!" The captain yelled, raising his rifle into the air before leading the charge.

The captain hopped out of the van and began shooting blindly at every moving target, managing to hit a couple of pedestrians before his head was popped.

The other 6th street members charged out, exchanging fires with the Valentinos, all while Shag cowered behind a truck.

"What the hell are you doin' soldier?! Shoot those hoo-"

Shag was suddenly sent flying back by an explosion.

He landed on his back, feeling his mechanical spine has dented, he could feel the metal digging into his flesh, one of the downside of having cybernetics.

He pulled out his dusty old pistol and began firing at every Valentino he could possibly see, missing every single shot, he suddenly saw a bright flash, followed by darkness…

"GOOOOD MORNING NIGHT CITYYYY

Did anyone else hear about the shootout at Heywood last night? Why, I could hear the gunfire all the way in the north side of Westbrook!!!"

"Y'know Ziggy, the shootout apparently lasted the entire night, god only knows what would've happened if MaxTac hadn't gotten involved, by the time they were done, the street was covered in the bodies of Valentino and 6th Street"

"Well, I'm sure the people of Santo Domingo are thankful for MaxTac's involvement. Onto more interesting news, 'Red Room', a brand new Braindance produced by Fourth Wall Studios, is becoming the new hot topic!! The brain-dance has been viewed by over four million people already!!"

—————————————————————

Eva was barely listening to the radio, leaving it on as white noise while she studied the map of Night City.

"Avoid Santo Domingo, especially avoid Pacifica, Never enter Watson alone, remain cautious in the City Center as that's where scavengers reside" she muttered to herself.

"Ya sure you're ready to enter the big city?" A bearded and lean man stood outside the tent,

"Zeus, I've BEEN ready…" she turned off the radio.

"I'm just warnin' ya…Night City is nothing like the Badlands, make a mistake out here and you'll get chewed out by the chief. A single mistake in there can end your life" Zeus stepped aside for Eva.

"Well, you always hear about legends being made in NC, but you never hear about legends being made out in this patch of sand" She tossed her bag into the back of her Mackinaw.

"Just be extra careful in there, you never know WHAT might piss those chrome-heads off" Zeus patted her on the back, "ya said your goodbyes?"

"Mhm…hey, if Night City isn't to my liking, then I'll come crawling back as always" Eva wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tight.

"Ha!! That's assuming we'll still be here by then"

Eva gave one last look at the lively camp, then the empty desert around her, "…yeah…I'm ready for a change of scenery" she sighed before entering her vehicle.

Eva watched as the whole camp gathered near her, waving and bidding her farewell.

"Goodbye, you guys"

Eva had her eyes set on the road ahead, her goals were simple:

Make it big in Night City

It didn't matter if it was through legitimate means or not, she was done living as an outlaw, barely scraping by and going on deathruns just to gather basic needs for survival.

Before long, she pulled up to the border crossing. Militech personnels stood ready with their Tech Rifles in hand, their job was ensuring no one can get into Night City without proper identification…though on second thought, perhaps their job was to ensure no one can get out.

A Militech officer approached her window with a mean mug on his face, his entire body was chromed out, he seemed barely human anymore.

His eyes seemed to scan Eva, checking her identification.

"…Step out of the vehicle" he ordered

"What the hell?!" Eva yelled.

"Step out of the vehicle" the man repeated, aiming his rifle at her

She complied, stepping out with her hands raised.

The man opened the back door of her vehicle, pulling out her bag and dumping all of its content onto the ground

The man dug through the pile, glancing at the knife and pistol she brought, but making no comments on it

"No water at the border crossing" the man picked up a canteen, dumping all of its content out before tossing it back onto the ground

"…What's this" he picked up a patch resembling a scorpion.

"It's just a patch from my old Nomad crew" Eva answered.

"…We don't allow items with gang affiliations" he tossed the patch onto the ground, firing it once with his tech gun and completely disintegrating it.

"What the fuck!!" Eva shoved the officer, causing every turret and drone to aim their sights at her

"Stand down or we will be forced to shoot"

Eva kept her head down and her hands raised. She hasn't even entered the city yet and already, she's gotten into trouble with the authorities.

"Hey, what's the hold-up?" A clean-looking man stepped out of his Herrera Outlaw, wearing a spotless green vest and a gold designer watch.

"Sir, this'll only take a moment-" "I don't have a moment" The Corpo approached Eva and the officer.

"If you kill her, then you're only gonna hold up the line…you'll need to move her vehicle, move her body, it'll be a terrible waste of time…or, you can let her pass through, and I won't have to report you to your higher-ups" The Corpo stated

The officer frowned, but keep his head down, his eyes not meeting with the Corpo's.

"You're clear" he told Eva before stepping back.

"…You're welcome" the Corpo told Eva with a proud smirk on his face, before returning to his own vehicle.

Eva hated these Corporate rats. She didn't need his help, that asshole must feel so proud of himself, helping out a lowly Nomad.

She scrambled on the ground, stuffing her things back into the bag before rushing back to her vehicle.

Eva drove through the security checkpoint and could see the city just up ahead, the large tower, the neon signs, holographic Ads covering the night sky

She was ready to face the city of dreams head-on.
