Chapter 20: 18. A Prehistoric Catch
"Hey Ash, that was a good battle." Shu said as he and Nidoran caught up with Ash and Pikachu.
"Oh hey Shu. Yeah well, it wasn't a fair one when I had a lucky advantage." Ash said with a chuckle.
"But you did improve. Pikachu has learned Thunderbolt now." Shu said as he looked at Pikachu as Nidoran also cried out in agreement.
"I guess we did. Sorry about the fight Pikachu. I made you push yourself." Ash said as he apologized to him.
"Pika Pikachu." Pikachu said with a smile as he nodded to his trainer.
"Hey! Wait! Ash!" Brock's voice sounded from behind them as the four stopped and looked behind.
They saw Brock running towards them who then stopped in front of them while Ash, Pikachu and Nidoran looked confused with Shu also sporting a confused look.
"Brock? What are you doing?" Ash asked him confused.
"I wanted to give you this." Brock said as he opened his hand showing the Boulder Badge to Ash.
"The Boulder Badge. But why are you giving me this? I didn't win the gym battle?" Ash asked confused.
"But you did show me the bond you have with your Pikachu. I will admit that the sprinklers going off was a lucky happenstance but still, you would've won against me if you had decided to keep on fighting. But you didn't which was something that most don't do. A trainer not only needs strong Pokemon, but also a good bond and trust with their Pokemon as well. And you showed me that so please take this badge." Brock said to him with a smile.
"Are you sure?" Ash asked him as he looked at the gym leader.
"Yes." Brock said with certainty as he nodded.
"Thanks Brock." Ash said as he took the badge and looked at it.
The badge shined as Ash smiled when he saw that before he looked at Pikachu who also smiled.
"Pikachu, we got the Boulder Badge!" Ash shouted in happiness as he brandished his new badge with Pikachu jumping to celebrate as well.
"Your friend is very energetic." Brock said to Shu who shrugged.
"Out of the three of us, Ash was the one who was the most energetic." Shu said with a smile.
"Also, can I ask you two something?" Brock asked getting the attention of the two.
"What is it?" Ash asked him curiously.
"As a gym leader, I am unable to leave my gym and explore the world, something which I've wanted to do for sometime now but was unable to. I've always wanted to be a Pokemon Breeder, but couldn't. So I want you guys to explore the world instead of me and tell me about it. Can you do that?" Brock asked the two of them.
"We can do that. Righ Shu?" Ash said as he asked his friend.
"Yeah." Shu said with a smile as he nodded to him.
"Thanks. It means very much to me." Brock said to them with a smile.
"And that is why you should leave the gym and follow your dream." Flint said as he walked to them.
"Flint?" Ash said confused.
"I'm sorry that you had to take care of them for so long because of me. I was irresponsible Brock." Flint said as he stood beside Brock.
"What are you saying? I don't understand." Ash said confused.
"He is my father." Brock said seriously as he looked at Flint.
"Wait what!" Ash said shocked alongside Pikachu and Nidoran.
"You mean you're that useless father who had left Brock's family behind to become a great trainer?" Ash said dumbfounded.
"I am missing a lot of things here." Shu said to him with an amused look.
"Yes, that's correct. I'm Brock's father and the one who left his home to become a trainer." Flint said to them.
"Why didn't you go visit Brock if you were here?" Ash asked him confused.
"Well, it was mostly shame. I had left my family behind to become a great trainer, which I had failed in doing and so I didn't know how I could approach the family that I had selfishly left behind." Flint said to him as he looked at Brock.
"I know that I left you unfairly Brock. But I am here to atone for my mistake and take care of our family. So please, follow your dream and leave the house to me." Flint said to him seriously.
"Alright then." Brock said as he pulled somthing out of his vest and placed it on Flint's hand.
"It's my time to take care of our family." Flint said as he looked at his hands to see a sewing needle and thread? which shocked him.
"??? sleepwalks during the night. ??? only likes to eat cereal during the morning. ??? has..." Brock started to rapidly say the things that Flint has to do.
"Wait wait. Let me at least write it down!" Flint said as he pulled out a notepad and started to frantically write down the things Brock was spitting out in rapid fire.
'I'm pretty sure Brock is saying them so fast to get back at his father for going to get milk.' Shu thought to himself in amusement as he looked at the father and son.
Small Time skip
"Here you go. Your Pokemon have been healed." Nurse Joy said as she gave Ash Pidgeotto and Pikachu.
"Thanks Nurse Joy." Ash said as he took his Pokemon.
"You okay now Pikachu?" Ash asked his partner who cried in agreement.
"Now both of your Pokemon are fine." Shu said with a smile.
"So where are we going next?" Ash asked his friend curiously.
"The next gym is in Cerulean City. So we are going there." Shu said to him with a smile as he took out and looked at his map.
"Cerulean City huh. Alright, then let's go now. The sooner we start the sooner we get there." Ash said excited.
"Yes yes. Also Ash I got a new Pokemon as well." Shu said to him with a smile.
"You have? Which one?" Ash asked surprised.
"Follow me." Shu said as he walked out of the Pokemon centre with a curious Ash and Pikachu behind him.
Pikachu looked at Nidoran for answers to which he only smiled in response. Shu went to the training ground near the Pokemon centre, there weren't any people there so they had the place all to themselves.
"Ready?" Shu asked as he took out a Pokeball as he sat near the ground.
"Yeah." Ash said intrigued alongside Pikachu.
"Alright. Come out!" Shu said as he threw his Pokeball to the air.
The Pokeball opened as white light came out of it. Ash and Pikachu watched as it took form and vanished to show Aerodactyl in all of its glory as it gave a cry as it spread its wings.
"Woah! I've never seen that Pokemon." Ash said amazed as he took out his Pokedex and looked for its information.
Dexter gave him the information that Aerodactyl is an ancient Pokemon and the like as Ash and Pikachu were amazed when they heard him as they looked at said Pokemon as it looked at them curiously.
"How did you get it Shu?" Ash asked amazed.
"I found an Amber at the Pokemon museum which I used to revive Aerodactyl here. She's a good Pokemon." Shu said with a smile as he rubbed Aerodactyl's snout.
"She? So it's a girl?" Ash asked surprised.
"Yep." Shu said as he rubbed her snout which she liked.
'It took a bit to convince her though.' Shu thought to himself as he remembered what had happened.
Flashback
After he had done his morning routine Shu made his way to the museum where he met with the scientist who greeted him happily. He took Shu to a room where Aerodactyl was placed as said Pokemon was looking around curiously.
"Be careful. Aerodactyl's are known to be temperamental." The scientist said to him as he nodded to him.
Shu walked inside the room with Nidoran as Aerodactyl noticed them as she turned and looked at them as she raised her wings to give a menacing look to them.
"Hey Aerodactyl. I'm Shu, I'm the one who found your Amber and I have come here to take you with me as my Pokemon." Shu said to the prehistoric Pokemon fearlessly.
'He sure doesn't seem to fear her.' The scientist thought to himself as he watched the interaction.
Aerodactyl however cried at him as she flew into the air as the two watched. Then the prehistoric Pokemon flew towards them with its mouth wide open making the scientist panic.
"Both of you get out of there!" The scientist shouted at them.
But Shu didn't back down as his eyes glowed in a familiar blue colour as Aerodactyl was stopped midair which confused the Pokemon.
"How about this then?" Shu asked as he took out a Pamtre Berry.
He then threw the Berry into the Pokemon's mouth as it chewed it as her eyes widened.
"Want some more?" Shu asked her to which she nodded.
He smiled and took out another Pamtre Berry and tossed it to Aerodactyl as she ate. He also gave her an Oran Berry which she seemed to like a bit. Seeing that Aerodactyl was calm now he placed her on the ground as she ate her berries happily.
'Glad that worked. My psychic powers are a great help.' Shu thought to himself as he smiled.
"You're a psychic?" The scientist who was watching asked as he walked into the room after seeing that Aerodactyl was no longer hostile.
"Yeah, been training since I was a kid. And it looks like Aerodactyl likes eating those berries as well." Shu said as he looked at Aerodactyl.
Aerodactyl slowly walked to Shu and stood in front of him before rubbing her snout on his left cheek as he closed his left eye and smiled at the show of affection being done by Aerodactyl.
"I like you as well Aerodactyl." Shu said as he rubbed her snout.
"How did you know that Aerodactyl would like those berries?" The scientist asked him curiously.
"I didn't know. Just took a guess." Shu said to him as he shrugged.
'I'm not going to tell him that I know about it.' Shu thought to himself as he rubbed Aerodactyl's chin.
"So, Aerodactyl, do you want to become my Pokemon?" Shu asked her as she looked at him confused.
Seeing that she was confused Nidoran went and explained it to her in Pokespeech which Aerodactyl understood as she looked at him and nodded her head.
"Great. It will be my pleasure to have you on my team." Shu said as he took out an empty Pokeball.
He touched the Pokeball to Aerodactyl's snout as it opened and Aerodactyl was pulled inside the Pokeball. After a few seconds a click was heard signifying that Aerodactyl has been caught as he smiled.
"Looks like we have a new partner Nidoran." Shu said to his partner with a smile.
"Nido Nidoran!" Nidoran cried out in happiness.
Flashback End
"Well, she has taken a liking to me." Shu said as he rubbed her snout.
"Professor Oak will be very happy when he knows about this." Ash said as he looked at the Pokemon.
"Yeah. I called him but he didn't pick up. Maybe he was busy doing some research." Shu said to him.
After that Ash got to know Aerodactyl before they went on their way to Cerulean City.
"Thanks for letting me tag along with you two." Brock said as they walked on the road.
"No problem Brock. It's nice to have another person to travel with." Ash said with a smile.
"Yeah. It's a breath of fresh air as well." Shu said with a smile.
"That's good to hear. But... what about her?" Brock said before asking as he looked at Misty who was following them.
"I'm not going to stop following you until you give me back my bike." Misty said stubbornly.
"Oh that's it! Can't you just shut up about it! Pikachu! Let's run away!" Ash said irritated before telling his Pokemon.
He then ran with Pikachu following behind as Brock and Shu looked at him.
"Well, looks like we're running now." Shu said as he and Nidoran ran after them.
"Hey! Don't leave me behind!" Brock said as he ran after them.
"You can't escape me!" Misty shouted as she ran after them.
A few feet away from them a hole was opened which is revealed to be done by team rocket as they got out with relieved looks on their faces.
"Finally, we managed to get out." Meowth said relieved.
"It feels good to be out." James said happily.
"My make up has become worse." Jessie said as she grumbled.
Only for Ash to stomp on her face leaving a footprint followed by Pikachu jumping over Meowth.
"Hey!" Jessie and Meowth shouted at once.
Only for Shu to step on James face with Nidoran jumping on Meowth's face followed by Brock stepping on Jessie's face and Misty stepping on Meowth's face. Now with all of team rocket having footprints on their faces.
"Those brats!" Jessie said in anger.
But that was all she could say because they lost their footing soon after as they fell on the hole they had dug while the group of trainers ran towards their next destination.
