Chapter 63: Black egg

In the end, Ann and Ingta returned with the cake and after securing it in the kitchen, were surprised by a clever and unexpected entrance involving Rada, four pine cones, a rake and multicolored paper confetti.

...Half an hour later of scolding and hugging....

-Oh, come on -Ann didn't quite believe how her ingenious escape from Beauxbatons happened -It couldn't have been such a sad story, come on, show us.

-Another time, illusion asks for a lot of magic and I already did it once today. But I can show you something simpler," he lied without blinking.

He preferred to spend their reunion in a happy way and didn't like to see tears on the faces of his mothers. Is it necessary to remember how the garden they have now was formed?

-All right, let's go -Ingta hurried him along, wanting to see how realistic the illusion he could make it.

Soisen pressed his palms together and his eyes lit up. As he opened them, a small door appeared and several fairies began to parade and dance around the room. To be more specific, they were the Hofurin that Soisen met at the Beauxbatons fountain and now he was using their appearance because being small, he doesn't need to invest a lot of magic.

-How cute! -Ingta exclaimed. She tried to touch one, but her hand passed through without causing a ripple.

Nagini was much more surprised than the mothers, for in her magical sense the illusions felt like real fairies, emitting the same magical signature. If it weren't for details like them having no shadows, she really would have concluded that they were real.

How complicated was a magic that generated an illusion not only capable of fooling a person's senses, but also the senses of a wizard or witch?

After several minutes, Soisen felt that enough was enough and cancelled the illusion.

They split the cake and as they ate with forks, like civilized people, Soisen explained everything he had experienced at Beauxbatons.

How he wandered through the French magical markets....

How he made the Potions teacher cry (unintentionally)...

How he met an old woman named Bea...

How he challenged the wood nymphs and triumphed...

-The years with you are never quiet, no matter what school you're in," was the sharp remark she received from both of her mothers.

-And you didn't bring souvenirs?

Soisen rolled her eyes as she took out the things she prepared in advance.

An elegant full-length wall mirror, a book on French recipes, a fully gilded mini water fountain and some herbs to transplant in the garden.

-Happy? -he asked amused after giving them the souvenirs.

-It's always better to keep us happy, son," they commented jokingly.

The family's scarb was happily playing with his new shiny treasure.

-By the way, Nagini, remind me later to talk to you," said Soisen as he stood up.

-Understood.

After catching up with the family, Soisen went into his suitcase and taking Headmistress Maxime's gift, hurried to his personal potions preparation room. Out of politeness, he had not examined the state of the flower in front of the half-giant, but now he could no longer restrain himself.

-Just as I thought, the lily is about to lose its prime, I'd better hurry," he said to himself after checking the flower.

While the materials he prepared and preserved properly needed to be added in their original state, the blue lunar lily with twin flowers born during the last eclipse was not the same case. He needed to distill a special liquid from the flower that would concentrate its essence and remove impurities.

He cleaned the lily of all its soil using cold water, separated the flowers, stem and roots before processing them.

He examined the cauldron which he brought to a boil and when it reached the right temperature, he added one of the two flowers in the center of the liquid, sprinkled the powdered root in the outer circle of the cauldron and used the stem to stir clockwise seven times.

Now he had to wait for the color of the liquid to change to a fluorescent blue, like the moon in the starry sky. In the meantime, he took the remaining lily flower from the table and put it in his mouth, chewing it into a paste. The moment the liquid changed color, he spit it in and turned up the heat. Curiously, although steam continued to rise from the cauldron, the liquid did not bubble from boiling at any point, like a calm lake similar to a mirror without a ripple.

Soisen hardly blinked during the whole process, for he had only one specimen and therefore one chance to succeed. An hour later, he was holding a sealed vial whose contents were barely a few drops after the reduction of the mixture.

-Now comes the tricky part, but first let's clean up this mess," he muttered after carefully setting the vial on a shelf and beginning to thoroughly clean all his potion equipment.

He pulled out the ingredients and examined them one by one to make sure everything was okay.

-Perfect, no problems or unforeseen events," he nodded in satisfaction before getting back to work.

He poured the ink from the thousand-year-old Black Lake squid into the cauldron and left it at a lukewarm temperature, before adding a few drops of his own blood and the dragon eggshells ground into powder, courtesy of Norberta.

The liquid in the cauldron showed signs of gelling, but Soisen interrupted the reaction by adding the house elf tears and the specially processed leech juice obtained.

The liquid began to flicker and alternate between various colors and without wasting time, he added five small spoonfuls of elixir of visa supplied by the philosopher's stone and a pair of Hofurin horns of the same origin.

The cauldron began to shake as the liquid showed a strong reaction to the new additions and began to shrink in on itself, taking the shape of an ostrich egg with spirals on its surface reminiscent of a certain painting by Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night.

(Look it up on google if you don't know which picture it is, it helps to visualize it.)

Just as the egg finished forming, Soisen hurriedly dumped in the lily preparation, causing the swirls on the surface to light up. When he was sure that the egg had absorbed the entire concentrate, he carefully removed the last component: the first song of a wood nymph.

The egg began to beat and spin on itself to the rhythm of the song and the spirals seemed to come to life. The moment the chant ended and faded away, the egg cracked and a dark substance spurted from within.

Soisen took a deep breath and with a decisive movement, he cut his palm and brought it close to the dark substance, which, as if it had heard his thoughts, turned into extremely thin threads and entered through the wound in his hand, entering Soisen's body until it could no longer be seen.

A strong dizziness overcame him and before he could react, he collapsed on his back on the floor.
