Chapter 23: Boot Camp Assualt (1)

Well, shit.

It looks like this won't be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

.

"What's the rush?" The reptilian man said as he shouldered the massive weapon. "We're only here to cause trouble. Maybe murder a few kids and wannabe heroes."

.

I grit my teeth as I think of a plan. But that all comes crashing down when the figures from the back walk into the light.

FuckShitFuck Mother-taco fuck.

Legion. And not scouts this time, but heavily armed and armored. Several firearms of different types were distributed between them and they all carried a [Gladius]. They counted for ten of the twenty strong force we were facing.

Of the last ten, they were the problem. I had read through enough reports to recognize them. Dabi, A-rank criminal. Himiko Toga, A-rank criminal. Twice, S-rank criminal. Spinner, C-Rank Villain. Mr. Compress, B-Rank Villain. Magne, B-Rank Villain. Muscular, A-Rank Villain. Mustard, C-Rank Villain. Moonfish, B-Rank Villain. And the last one is a Nomu with chainsaws for arms and a lot of them. Each one of them were a problem in their own right, but put them together and you would have one hell of a fight.

The students were talking amongst themselves before I heard them shift, my only guess was that some of them were readying themselves to fight. I would commend them if I wasn't worried about the Nomu and the Legion.

.

"Now, like I was about to say," Spinner spoke up, seeing as I hadn't made another move, "We are the League of Villains. And we're here to cause some trouble."

.

As he spoke, my eyes drifted across the assembled villains and Legion. Thinking of what I could use to thin them out. I knew that I could just whip out a [Fatman] and get rid of them. But the fallout would be a problem as well as dealing with bullshit that came with porting around nuclear weapons. Mentally, I was going over what I had.

Suddenly, I thought, why hasn't Mandalay used her quirk on me yet? Food for thought later, right now I had to deal with these bastards. But then, a Legion Centurion walked forward and backhanded Spinner away before shouting.

.

"Nuntius!" He shouted as he pointed at me. "Provoco ad duellum! Fight me!"

.

A duel huh? Haven't had one of those in years, since the Battle of Hoover Dam maybe. And his voice was familiar.

.

"I accept!" I shouted back.

"No guns or armor! Gladiī only!" The Centurion shouted back before heading back to his brethren.

.

I nodded my head and slowly walked back to the awaiting group from UA and the Pussycats.

.

"What the hell is going on?" Aizawa demanded as I reached them.

"A duel," I said simply as I started to strip.

"Explain, Now!" He shouted.

"Look, I don't have much time to explain." I started as I removed my armor. "All I can tell you now is if I win, we may only have to deal with the villains and not the Legion. Have you called for backup?"

"I have, but it will take time," Aizawa told me as I stripped off my shirt, leaving me only in my pants and boots as I packed away my armor and gun into my [Pip-boy].

"Good, I'll stall for as long as I can. But, should anything happen to me, Aizawa your my second," I told him as I armed myself with a [Gladius].

.

Aizawa nodded his head, understanding what I wanted of him. As I turned around, what I saw made my blood boil. The Centurian that challenged me was none other than Legate Lanius, the Monster of the East. But he was younger than I saw him last. His hair wasn't as grey. But that made it all the more dangerous. The guy was a master with a blade and he wasn't too far off from being as strong as me.

I mentally prepare myself, knowing this was gonna be a hard fight.

.

{POV Lanius}

.

As my compatriots undid my armor, I couldn't help but be determined to undo my failure. My loss at the Hoover Dam at the hands of the Courier. My loss affected me greatly, resulting in my death and the death of the Legion. But I have been given a second chance to right my wrongs. With this duel, I shall bring back the glory of the Legion and to Caesar. This will either end in one of two ways. My defeat or victory. Life or death.

As I lost the last bits of my armor, I turned towards my opponent. The famed Courier. The one who brought my demise to my hands.

This battle will be legendary.

.

{POV Izuku}

.

This was insane! Six-sensei was fighting to the death with one of those weirdly dressed villains! What was he thinking when that man called out to him? This wasn't like him at all, so why did he accept?

As my mind raced through the scenarios, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye. It was Kota, Mandalay's nephew, hiding in the woods nearby. Why was he here? Shouldn't he be at the base?

.

{POV Kota}

.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Villains. Why were they here?! Why was that bastard fighting one in a duel!? What the hell was going on!?

That's when I saw the Bastard's body. It was adorned with scars. It was as if it was a testament to what he's been through. I gulped when I remembered the scars on my father's body. There were few, but nowhere near as many as there were on that man. It looked like he's been through hell and came back as its conqueror.

I was scared. But of what? The outcome. That was the answer that came to me.

But, why?

.

{POV Six}

.

As we stood across from each other, we eyed the other's body movements. Any little twitch, lurch, sweat drop, anything. We waited for over a minute, just standing there waiting for the other to move. Finally, Lanius moved first.

Thundering off faster than most humans could move. But, I wasn't like most humans. I charged forward the second he tried to move. We both met in the middle with our Gladiī cutting arcs toward each other. With a violent clash of sparks, our Gladiī connected and locked into each other. We locked eyes as we both strained against each other's blades. Matching his strength, I kept the blades locked and threw a left hook into Lanius's unprotected side. Lanius pushed off and dodged the strike before retaliating. He came in with a left straight that I deftly dodged and slashed back.

And so, the two of us began our deadly dance.

We clashed. We slashed. Stabbed and hacked at each other. Both of us dodging with the tiniest of margins. To the ones that watched, it was hauntingly beautiful. To us, it was either win or lose. Life or death.

Finally, two minutes in, the first blood was drawn. It was a slight cut on my arm. Nothing major and hardly any blood was drawn. I could hear the intake of breath from the crowd when it happened. I ignored them and focused on my fight.

.

{POV Dabi}

.

I wondered why Tomura said to let these guys go first. And I understood now. Despite being quirkless, these fuckers would be hard to kill even with our quirks. But I couldn't help but wonder who these freaks were and where they'd come from. They called themselves the Legion and they served this weirdo called Caesar.

But as we watched this fight to the death, I couldn't feel anything but suspense. Not any happiness or contempt. Even boredom wasn't there.

When the first blood was drawn, I felt scared, a feeling I haven't felt in a long time. Not because it was from that Lanius dude, but from this Courier they went on and on about. Just being in his presence felt like I was gonna die all over again.

I shook my head to clear those errant thoughts.

This was getting nowhere.

As I raised my hand to burn these two to ash, I felt cold steel on the verge of cutting through my neck. Looking to my right, I saw one of the Legionaries holding his sword against my neck. I didn't even hear him draw it, let alone feel his killing intent. That's when I realized these fucks wouldn't bat an eye to killing one of their own. No, they didn't see us as one of their own, just means to an end.

I dropped my hand and he moved the sword from my neck. I knew my chances, I wouldn't come out of that unscathed. I had plans to do, and losing a limb or even my life would interrupt those plans.

.

{POV Himiko Toga}

.

It was amazing! The way they fought to kill one another was intoxicating. The thrill they must have felt as they fought must be divine. And when the first blood was drawn, I could smell it through my mask. I could tell that just a drop would make me addicted. I wonder how it would taste?

As I slightly moved to go join, I saw that Dabi raise his hand to end this beautiful dance. I was enraged but it cooled when I saw one of these Legionaries hold their blade to his neck before he could do anything. I was stunned. I saw him move. It was fast and quiet. Almost as if he was a ghost.

That's when I realized, these Legionaries would be fun to fight.

I wonder how they taste~

.

{POV Six}

.

Just how long has it been? A few minutes? Almost an hour? I don't know.

Lanius and I fought tirelessly. Both of us wanting, demanding, the other to die before our blade. Scratch after scratch, wound after wound. We continued to fight with our lives on the line.

Finally, after a particularly hard clash, our Gladiī broke. Both of us were left with just a shattered blade. We tossed them away and brought our fists up.

We closed in on one another, our fists poised to bash and break the other's skull in. A sick pleasure swelled deep within me as I thought about bashing his head in once again. I shook the thought from my head as we came into each other's reach.

Lanius swung first, trying to feint with a jab followed by a hook. I ignored the feint and dipped my head to dodge the hook. I then came in with a jab followed by a straight. Lanius sneered and dodged them with ease before retaliating with a one-two combo. I blocked the two hits with my arms while kicking out toward his ankle. He just raised his foot to dodge the kick before coming at me in a rush of blows. I dipped, ducked, dodged, and parried the incoming blows as I waited for Lanius to back up for air. Once he did, I rushed into his reach and threw several body blows in quick succession before he could react. I had unleashed my full strength in those blows and I felt cracks.

But, giving Lanius his dues, he soldiered on without feeling any pain. But I knew better, I knew him. He had a mutation that allowed him to block vast amounts of pain and push past his limits. That's how he became a Legate in the Legion.

Lanius, the Butcher, the Monster, a myth. His strength was unmatched in the Legion. And his viciousness was second to none.

As my thoughts wandered back to the Mojave, Lanius retaliated with a vicious straight that landed square on my chest. I felt my bones creak under the pressure. But I didn't mind the pain. With his arm over extended, I grabbed his wrist with both hands and executed a flying armbar. Before he could retaliate, I wrenched and dislocated his arm.

A sickening pop echoed out in the clearing as Lanius' arm popped. An intake of breath could be heard as both sides reacted to the dislocation. But that didn't stop us.

As soon as I dislocated Lanius' arm, I let go and rolled away. Lanius, for better or worse, ignored the pain and rose to his feet. Even with an arm out of commission, he was still a threat.

.

"Are we done warming up now?" He asked as he forcibly relocated his arm with his other hand.
