Chapter 10: Abusive Home 5
Tears filled my eyes waiting for the right time to pour out.
"Has Dad actually left us? After everything we went through?." I couldn't help but say this out loud.
I rubbed my hands on my eyes continuously. My Mum stood still looking at me. I could tell by her face that she was excited to see my reaction.
I knew she was lying but this time she went too far.
For the last few days, my Dad's character has changed. I didn't know if he was sick but he has been reserved. He talked less, did everything gently and hardly behaved like he used to.
"I'm glad you're finally coming back to your senses. Your Dad always runs away when he can't handle things and you know that very well. Even when you were a kid, he left us. Just you and I. When things became better for us, he came back pretending to be sick and then suddenly he is rich and now…"
"Mum, just shut up. You're a liar! I've heard enough lies from you already. He's your father, he's not your Father, he's pretending to take care of you and your step brother, he's not. Mum, why are you like this? Things were never better for us. If there's a problem from anyone.., it is you! You never acted like a mother instead you stole things from store to store. I can remember that Dad sent a lot of money for you to start up a business but you never did! Instead, you preferred to get married to a man old enough to be your father and my Grandfather. Not only that…,
"Enough! It is enough!" My Mum interrupted.
"No, it is not enough. You're enjoying it right now right? Wearing three layers of make ups just to cover the scars from the beating you receive every night. And here you are-
"Stop! You're drifting away from our conversation right now. Your Dad never sent any money to us! He-
"Mum, just leave! You keep making me hate you day after day!"
"I'm trying to save you, you ungrateful child!"
"I don't need your help! You're the one who needs help right now!"
We started arguing, our voice was so loud that everyone in the neighbourhood could hear us. Some people watched us through their windows. I guess they were enjoying the mother and daughter drama.
My Mum noticed that people were looking at her through the windows. So, she decided to start acting nice. She immediately changed her voice and the tone she used in talking to me.
"Marsai dear, don't you want to live in a mansion and a luxurious home..? I mean don't you want a better life?" She asked, faking a smile.
"Sorry, but for me, I don't think there's a better life without my happiness!" I shouted at her.
"People are watching us right now, I don't want to disgrace myself." My mum said gritting her teeths.
"Then leave quietly, it will do you good. Please, leave my Dad and I alone." Tears rolled down my eyes.
I looked down the road and a car was coming in the direction of my Mum and I. I looked into the car and saw my Dad. He looked confused. I could tell that he was wondering what could be going on between my Mum and I.
I was wondering who could be bringing my Dad home and to my greatest surprise it was Miss Georgia.
"You will regret this decision of wanting to live with your Dad instead of your mum, Marsai."
"Don't worry, she won't regret it. I promise you." My Dad said to us.
My Mum was shocked to hear his voice. He turned to look at him immediately.
"Dad, you're back already?" I asked, hugging him tightly.
"Modrick, where are you coming from? I always knew you can't take care of this kids, why did you leave them at home all alone without-
"Good day Ma'am" Miss Georgia greeted my Mum.
My Mum was confused to see Miss Georgia with my Dad. I knew he was not expecting this. She always thought my Dad could not love without her but seeing another woman with my Dad, she was confused and speechless.
My Mum was quiet for some seconds as he started at Miss Georgia.
Miss Georgia is the real definition of elegant and classy. I loved her Dark skin and her curly hair more. She had bright eyes and a pointed nose with her pretty lips not to talk about her hourglass figure. Everywhere she goes, heads spin because who wouldn't love to stare at her beauty.
"Mum, she's greeting you!." I shouted.
My Mum immediately came back to herself. I bet she was lost in thought of how my Dad must have met someone so beautiful and elegant.
"Oh, Good day." My Mum faked a smile at her and then kept quiet to stare at her again.
"Mum, what were you saying earlier?" I laughed at her.
"No, I wasn't saying anything, I guess I'll have to take my leave now." She said turning her back to leave.
"I hope I'm not the one making you leave." Miss Georgia said to her.
"No, you're not the one. I- I was about leaving before you drove in. So- you're not t-the one." My Mum stammered. She walked awkwardly into her car.
"It hasn't been up to three months since I left him and he has already found someone he is dating. Modrick is such a cheater! How dare they say I'm the problem when he found someone else he loves immediately. The way he stares at her every time she's talking annoys me even more!. I must make sure they don't end up together. I will do everything I can to make sure-
"Be careful while driving!" A driver shouted at her. She had to stop driving at a high speed.
My Mum breathed heavily when she stopped driving. She almost hit a car.
"I will make sure he doesn't marry Miss Georgia, I will do everything I must to make sure it never happens! Modrick only deserves me!" She gritted her teeth.
"Dad, I always knew Miss Georgia was the right one for you. You both will make a good match." I smiled at my Dad.
"This is all a coincidence. I don't plan on getting married to anyone any time soon. Having you is already enough for me…"
"I know, but you still need someone by your side."
"We met today coincidentally. I never wanted to bring her home with me. Let me tell you how we met. Okayy?"
"Okay, go on."
