Chapter 20: chapter 20

--MC POV--

Before my eyes is the result of my hard work, an accomplishment that fills me with pride, an achievement I never thought would have been possible, but I did it in just three days.

The pub and apartment of Laura are now spotless, to the point that even hospitals can't compare to its cleanliness.

"So, this is what my boyfriend has been doing for the past few days, I commend you for your job, maybe in the future you should stay at home and be an househusband while I go out earning big bucks" said Lydia, ruining my moment with her teasing.

"Well he certainly did a great job" added Laura, while walking down the stairs that separate the pub from her accommodation.

"I'm happy to meet you both, I can see why Thomas is so smug about his girlfriends."

"Had I know you were this beautiful I would have asked my boyfriend to present us sooner, I'm Lydia by the way"

They were exchanging simple pleasantries, but Lydia's eyes were studying Laura, while Laura's gaze was aimed at my left, where Malia was standing quietly.

"Now I'm even more sure you are her" here she goes again with the mysterious vibe, but I am not backing out anymore. Now that I brought Malia here, I want answers.

"-Her- who?" I demanded

"My cousin" replied Laura walking toward us and added "I can see in her both my uncle and the desert wolf"

I was just about to say something, but Malia touched my shoulder and spoke by herself.

"If what you said is true and I'm really your cousin, why did you give me in adoption? why did you leave me with a normal family who knew nothing of the supernatural" Malia was clearly angry knowing that the accident could have been prevented if she had been raised by her true family.

Probably she did not think, or she did not even care about the fact that she could have died in the fire together with the hale family had she stayed with them

"It was the only option we had" said Laura, while looking down on the floor.

"About sixteen years ago a notorious killer, known as the desert wolf, came here in Beacon Hills, and my uncle fell in love with her. What both didn't expect was for a baby to be conceived during their rendezvous. It took nine months for my mother to convince Corine, the desert wolf, that birth was a blessing, but when the time came, a rare event happened" At this point she paused for a moment.

"What happened?" asked Malia, while keeping her rageful tone.

"Power stealing. There have been very few cases, but for some supernatural races it may happen that a child takes away a part of its mother powers during childbirth. That's what happened to you, and your mother went mad, she wanted to get her power back and for that she needed to kill you. So, my mother secretly put you in adoption and took away my uncle's memories so that he wouldn't be used by Corinne to find you. This was the only way to let you live a normal life without having to be locked up inside the house for protection. My mother never stopped to monitor you and she was planning to get in contact with you again when you started showing sign of awakening you werecoyote's powers."

Malia was shocked about the revelation and her face become petrified; she was unable to understand the situation.

"If it is true that she was looking after Malia, why did you not take her in after the accident, there were traces everywhere of a coyote on the car, did you not guess that Malia had turned in a werecoyote" asked Lydia and in fact it sound strange to me too, that they didn't make this assumption, since even I who know half of what she knows about the supernatural was able to make it.

"She was too young to awaken, and the marks left on the car and the bodies were too big to belong to a young werecoyote"

"What… what do you mean by that? I was the one who did those after going mad because of the full moon" Muttered Malia shocked by what Laura was saying

"No, you weren't. One day we got the news that the desert wolf had come back, so my mother asked me to help her stop Corinne since I was the only one who knew about you. She led me to your house, but only your father was there. So, we started searching for you by running along the same road your mother took to bring you back from school, but when we arrived it was too late" only silence followed Laura's words, so after some seconds she continued her story.

"I remember tracing those same scratches with my hand, they were too big to be made by a child, we thought she had killed you and dragged your body away; my mother faulted herself of your death for years, but you were always alive. You must have been forced to turn into a coyote to survive the impact and then you must have run away from your mother."

At these words Malia fell on her knees and started crying.

She had believed to have killed her family for practically half of her life, bearing the guilt and isolating herself from the world.

After that we passed some time there speaking, but Malia was too tired after all the emotions she felt during this time, so me and Lydia decided to leave with her.

While we were going to Lydia's house, Malia raised her gaze and looked at me.

"Thomas, do you think that I would have lived a normal life had I not stolen my mother powers? Am I cursed to bring demise to those around me?"

"It isn't your fault, it wasn't a choice you made, and I think of you as a blessing." Those words relieved her as she started smiling.

"I want to meet my father; I have abandoned him for long enough"

"We'll bring you there tomorrow" I smiled seeing that she was ready to face her father, now that she was free of the guilt that haunted her for years.

"Thank you…You too Lydia…I love you… I love this pride… our family" Malia said these words while crying as she brought us in a group hug.

Yes, I love this too.

(I hope you liked my version of Malia's past. It wasn't well explained in Teen Wolf and some things didn't make much sense, but I rewatched the episode with the overturned car, and the cuts on it were indeed too distant among each other to be made by a child, especially since Malia turned in a full coyote and not a partial one. So for me the marks found on the bodies weren't made by her. It wouldn't have made any sense for Corinne to just make the car have an accident and not confirm the death of her child. Maybe this was already planned in the original, but it was never fully explained. Moreover, I will explain this accident better in the future.)
