Chapter 27: Strike of guilt

Naveah sluggishly opened her eyes at the sound of loud knocking on her door and a voice that was calling out her name. She became sure it was Oliver's voice as she got closer to open the door.

"Oliver? What are yo-" Before she could finish Oliver wrapped his arms around her tightly, "Thank god! Sister! I'm glad you're okay. I'm so glad." His voice and body was trembling like a leaf and he seemed like he was about to cry from panicking.

Naveah pushed him away, "What's wrong? Did something happen to you?"

He stared at Naveah for some moments and said, "Nah...I was just a bit worried about you since you didn't pick up my call yesterday," he looked down at the ground while smiling with a frown.

"Ah- OOH!! I didn't turn on my phone yet, you come in!" She was about to rush inside to turn on her phone but Oliver grabbed her hand all of a sudden.

"W-what again?" Naveah looked back with confusion as she pulled back her hand.

"M-my.....head hurts a lot can I get some coffee?" He stared at her.

"...Sure, come in!"

The dining room felt quiet as they sat down for coffee until Oliver spoke up breaking their silence, "So...Why did you get fired?"

Naveah scoffed, "News like these spreads fast don't they?

Someone took pictures of us that night...And you know the rest."

"What? Why didn't you just tell the truth about me to the Officer? There wouldn't be any misunderstanding if you did." He sounded desperate.

"Why should I? He misjudged me and I don't care. Do Samantha and Nick know about this? I don't want them to worry about me in their happy moments." Naveah looked outside the window while sipping her coffee.

"No...They don't know about it. Don't worry they'll never know." Oliver looked at the brown coffee and the smoke whirring around it.

"What brings you here early in the morning? I was on a date with Tessa when you called so I had to turn off my phone. Sorry about that." (Naveah)

"Date...with Tessa?" Oliver seemed Shocked and troubled for a moment until he changed his expression asking "Did she make you turn it off?"

"NO! I did it on my own accord." She stood up to get the phone.

As soon as she turned on her phone, it started buzzing ongoingly with all the missed calls and texts from Samantha, Nick and Oliver.

Oliver panicked seeing the phone in her hand.

"Oh, my God! Why did they call me so many times? I shouldn't have turned it off." She said while dialling their numbers until she heard a voice saying "The call cannot be completed as dialled," from both of the numbers.

"Hey, what? Both of their phones are off...What the hell? They've never turned them off before." She looked at Oliver.

"Ah! That...Senior s-said they'll be picking their wedding dresses and spend a little time together so....maybe that's why," Oliver clenched his fists behind his back.

"Is that so? Maybe that's why they called me," She scratched her head while sitting down.

"Sister, Let's g-" Before he could say anything they heard a loud bang on her door, "Ms Naveah Tylar, are you inside?

Naveah and Oliver looked at each other with confusion. She stood up to answer but Oliver grabbed her and whispered "Don't."

She pulled back her hand once again, "Why? There must be something they need," She walked away to open the door and saw 6 cops standing in front of her house.

"Yes, How may I help you?"

"Mam! We need you to come with us."

"May I know the reason?" (Naveah)

"You're being arrested as a suspect in Sergeant Nick and Chief Samantha's murder case, I don't want to force you since you are a former Sergeant."

"What the hell do you think you're saying?" Oliver stood in front of Naveah and glared at them.

"Sir, I'd like you to stay out of it. We have orders."

Naveah clenched Oliver's arm from behind as if she'll tear it apart, "Take me there!" Naveah said as she held back all of her emotions with her lips pulled in tightly, Oliver couldn't read her eyes.

"No Mam-" The Cop wanted to object but he froze at Navee's glare, "Take me there right now! Or I won't move an inch from here."

"Naveah calm down, listen to me-" Oliver tried to reach her.

"Did no one hear me? TAKE ME TO THEM!"

The cops flinched at her voice and nodded at each other.

Naveah went to a hospital that was in the outskirts of the city with 3 of the cops. As soon as she set foot in the hospital, the pain and fear inside of her grew, thinking about what she'll have to visualize. She noticed a group of people with samples in their hands coming out of the room, probably the forensic team.

She got into the room with her heart beating like a bullet train and caught sight of a bed with two bodies covered in white cloth.

When one of the cops removed the cloth, It blew up in her head with a terrifying blankness.

It was nauseating. She started to quiver. The pain in her heart felt like a hot, sharp knife, covered in salt, slicing through her skin and into her muscles and bones, as though her leg had been frozen and a bolt of lightning had struck her body from head to toe as she saw her 2 beloved partners sewed together. Their cheeks...so blue and smudged in tear marks, by the side of the bed, their pierced limbs sewed together.....

Blood started sliding down from both of Naveah's fists and lips to her chin as she held back her rage, pain, guilt, tears and sadness altogether.

Oliver pressed his shivering lips together as he got closer to her and covered her eyes while holding her from behind.

"Enough, Naveah....Let's get out of here. You've seen enough, don't hurt yourself....and don't blame yourself..." Oliver tried to console her even though he knew it was futile...
